This condition is characterized by 'diverticula', or marble-sized protrusions through weakened areas in the walls of the colon. These may eventually become inflamed or, in severe cases, even ruptured. Worth noting is the fact that the milder 'diverticulosis' (not-yet-inflamed diverticula) is relatively common as we age eventually reaching over 50% of those 60 years and older.
Also worth noting to those in this particular post is it's specific location: "In Western populations, pouches are most common in your sigmoid and descending colon — the lower portions of your large intestine just above your rectum." (i.e., lower left side)
None of these postees - until 't8614' - actually went so far as to get the tests that could identify the problem (CT or colonoscope). Even then, it seems, this particular "doctor" - although coming close with his diagnosis of a "tortuous sigmoid" - fell short of resolving the issue for you (he "left quickly before [you] could talk with him about it").
As this is more often the norm than the exception, I would do my best to address the symptoms with the actions and diet changes suggested online for the condition. Together with going easy on the fiber for a few days, I would definitely start with a good, balanced, probiotic to counter the bacteria at the site of inflamation rather than any antibiotics an MD might prescribe.
THEN, if this homecare-first approach fails to alleviate the condition after a few days, consider seeing another doctor better equipped to identify and address this particular condition responsibly.... O.H.

That was back in June and I am still having sharp pains in my lower left abdomen about 2 inches below my rib cage. I was on birth control for over 3 years and have recently stopped to detox my body from unnatural and conventional pills/medicine...and due to Bacterial Vaginosis, which occurred while taking BC. Being with the same partner for over 3 years now...I felt that the only reason for this gross bacteria was possibly unprotected and/or birth control controlling my system for too long. The pain remains the same (off pills) and over time has gotten more and more severe. During intercourse, I noticed that sometimes (only while I'm on my hands and knees) that I will get a very sharp pain in my abdomen as well...and it seems to be indirectly related to the same region of my regular lower left ab pain. I'm not sure if any of these occurrences are related, but it seems to me they are.
I no longer have insurance (due to being layed off) so now I can't afford to go to the doctor and get tested further. There are no lumps or bumps and I am very healthy and active.
Does anyone out there have any clue what this might be caused from...if it is serious/fatal? What herbs/treatment I can undergo? Any help would be greatly appreciated because as much as I try not to worry about it, the pain gets more severe each occurrence.
Thanks for reading.

Interestingly, one of my kids had worms which I caught and got treated for.
Shortly after the treatment, the pain dissappeared.
3 years later it has returned - just as it was before - wondering if worms are the cause - was told 40% of the population have them at any one time.
Might be worth taking a worm tablet - see if it helps. The wort it can do is clean out your system.

I am amazed reading these responses, this is exactly what i have! I have never heard of anyone else having the same pain as me and pretty much thought I was a freak, or freakishly unlucky.
About 4 years ago I was riding my bike hard and I hurt my left testicle. It was paralyzing. At the time I was training super hard boxing and riding, running, etc so was super fit. I took time off work and training and went to numerous doctors, emergency wards, specialists, urologists, had ultrasounds, x-rays, Osteopathy, visited sex clinics, you name it. Nothing. No answer AT ALL. From any of these medical providers. The next step they said was surgery but they don;t even know what they are looking for. So I have lived with the pain. It is intermittent, sometimes there, sometimes not at all. i find exercise better as I am active and it hurts more when I stop or am in a resting state.
To make things worse I got back on the bike after 2 years and started training hard again resolving to the fact that i have this pain for life. I was doing well then came off my bike landing awkwardly on my left side and ever since have now had a weird combination pain of left testicle/groin, left side stomach with pins and needles sensation esp when sitting making it very uncomfortable to sit, and it also hurts across my left leg. If I am tired i have noticed the pain gets worse, stretching, resting, dieting, not dieting, muscle building, etc doesn;t change the long term problem/effect.
Anyone ever come up with an answer for this I can;t explain how happy it would make me and how much it would mean to me. My current lifestyle is restricted by this injury/injuries and it causes me great pain and stress both physically and mentally. I started drinking very heavily and became depressed because I was unable to train and in pain. Whatever this is it is terrible and I wish you all the best of luck finding answers.
Thank you.
