Well I was diagnosed with a classic case of GERD. My symptoms did get pretty bad but if they get worse I would recommend going to the doctor and getting a second opinion.
My GERD symptoms got so bad that sometimes I felt I couldn't breathe. I could even hear the gurgling of stomach acid in my throat. The symptoms were always worst if I did not get enough sleep. I took Prevacid for over 4 years and have changed my diet with positive results.
The pain and choking sensation would normally go away or lessen in degree as the day would go on. If this pain persists you should probably get yourself checked out.
GERD sufferers do have an increased chance of getting both stomach and throat cancers.

I have these symptoms and a week ago was diagnosed with Acid Reflux. Dr. put me on Prilosec but I haven't had much relief. I went online and read lots of posts regarding cider vinegar, honey and water. Mix 1/2 cup of each and take 1 TBS. morning and night. I'm willing to try this but haven't been on it long enough to see if it helps me. What have I got to lose by trying it...Code:

Prilosec should give you relief 24 hours after taking it and the difference should be noticeable. If not there is something wrong and you should go back to the doctor.

I also have GURD. Some of my symptoms are, a sharp pain in chest/throat, sometimes it feels as if there is a lump stuck in my throat and seems to make breathing difficult. I also get upper back pain, but not often, I did read that this is a side effect of GURD as well. I also already have anxiety issues, so I often too become panicy. I also get a small cough, almost sounds like a fake cough. My Gurd seems to happen often or not at all, it's weird. I take Nexium but it doesnt seem to work, I hope I can find something that works soon!

I have the exact same symptoms and after a camera down the throat job it was confirmed that i had had a hiatus hernia.
Some of the previous comments are correct, in that the hernia in effect is part of your stomach slips up through the 'flap' at the top of your stomach that stops food/acid/bile coming up the oesophagus.
It is quite important to get this sorted as repeat acid entering this area can burn away at your oesophegal wall and cause scarring leadinging to more sinister conditions later on.
The Doc prescribed me with Lanzoprazole to protect my stomach from the acid, and Metoclopramide tablets to close the 'flap' ...... or tighten the oesophagal sphincter. The later drug i believe is more of a drug to stop nausea. This worked a treat. The symptoms went away - period.
However, when the medication ran out the symptoms came back. I currently still have the problem and am purposely staying away from the medication as i get married in the summer and dont want to build up a tollerance to the drugs so that they become ineffective at the time of my wedding.
The last thing i want to do is regurgate my food and constantly burp during my wedding speech!!!

Helo All.
I am suffering from acid reflux for long time and because of this my throat tissues are damaged to a little extent. Because of this, I feel something struck in throat while swallowing feel like one side of my throat burning, because of back-acid. Been to doctor many times no use.
Finally I found solution in Homeopathy. What the medicine does is heal the tissues back to normal over a period of time...app 3 months. But you can feel the result in 2 weeks time.
Here is the medicine: Arnica Montana 30. Buy this in wet form ( not in pills).
Every day in the morning add 10 drops of this in the water ( a glass) drink it. Dont eat/drink anythign else for 20 minutes. Take the same before going to bed.
You are going to get surprised by the results.
I did a lot of research and finally found this. The same advice is also available on the following web site : www.abchomeopathy.com
This medicine restores the damaged tissues to normal, but dosent stop acid reflux. Please note this. For this I got suggestions from the doctor as below: Nat.Phos-6x (2 grain per dose thrice a day after meal) . I havent tried yet, soon I'll. Nat-phos controls acid.
The intention of writing this is to put the people back on to their smile.
All the best....
Regards,
Kumar

You mentioned thyroid nodules. I had all your same sx with thyroid nodules. Could not swallow, had trouble breathing and reflux so bad both in throat and stomach. Had my thyroid removed because nodules enlarged. The doctors kept telling me it was reflux the whole time. Well , guess what? Once thyroid removed, all my symptoms went away. I am on thyroid med but no more reflux, no more trouble swallowing. Listen to your gut, your body will tell you what is going on. Try apple cider vinegar or aloe juice for relux, they work when needed!! Good luck!

I've had that lump in the throat, feeling like my throat is closing off and panic too. I'm going to find the root cause. I do not trust most doctors with good reason. I found a terrrific naturopathic doc in Rockford named Julia Whipkey. She has a website. She's very reasonable. Most of us probably need our guts healed with a good diet and lots of probiotics. Meds are not the answer in my opinion. I don't want to give up my fries and chocolate.... but I may have to for a while. If anyone has EVER had an antiobiotic... they likely need hefty doses of probiotics. There's a diet called SCD Specific Carbohydrate Diet and another one called GAPS Gut and Psychology Diet... they both have websites and they both will likely be good for reflux. I encourage people to find a doctor who's into making you well not just medicating symptoms. Blessings.

Hello,
I've also had the "SILENT GERD" which burns your throat and voicebox when you sleep at night.
Unlike regular heartburn, the SILENT GERD doesn't burn, so you don't realize that acid from your gut is going up your esophagus as there are no symptoms (no burning).
Chronic stress, eating too quickly and too much as well as a high Carb diet can all cause this.
I stopped the Prilosec as it was making me sick.
the throat pain and gas and bloating is going away since I started taking HCL with Pepsin (available at health foods stores).
Start with a low dose of 200mg right BEFORE your meal (don't take it if you are only having a small salad). And then up the dose to 400 mg etc
Here's an excellent site to check out this stuff. The info I got from reading this guys articles is amazing -

I'll say this once. I had this. Its gone. I got help from a Matrix healer. It took 3 days to completely cure. You can google it. The medication isn't going to help. All those meds are big business and that is why they don't work.

I can relate to all your symptoms.
Taking Nexium & Domperdone. terrible time swallowing.
I just heard that Nexium etc cause a magnesium deficiency which can cause
throat constrictions and improved when supplemented.
Haven't bought some yet, but I plan on trying it.

no, you are not alone..I too have these same symptoms...have been taking prevacid and prilosec but they do not help...I get the "lump" in my throat almost every time I eat along with belching and really bad "heartburn" pain...my doctor says it is GERD and I am scheduled for an endoscope next month...they cannot diagnose anything without actually looking into your esophagous and stomach to see what is actually causing it...anxiety can cause it too but I think that thelump and full feeling brings on the anxiety...
