They can put a scope through your nose as well, which is what my ENT does. Not very comfortable but the numbing spray that they use helps. They can't just knock you out everytime they want to look deeply into your throat.

Your not alone , I have the same symptoms to a T. I was just givin an acid reducer and was told that it was minor. Well , choking on water and easy swollowed food is not normal. All the symptoms suck, but its the lump in my throat and feeling like I don't breath okay are the most worrisome. Guessing maybe a second opinion? Hope everything all works out from you!!

My gastro doctor put me on Nexium 40 mg, which took that choking feeling away after about a week. It was so terrible. He said it was caused by reflux and is very common. Anyway, I would have taken anything (even with side effects) to get rid of that feeling. Now, after a year on Nexium 40 mg, I have weaned down to 20 mg every other day. It WILL go away! Keep up on your medication. If you don't want to take medication, try 1 T of unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar (with "the mother") in 6 oz of water 10 minutes before meals, fresh ginger tea, fresh papaya, and raw cabbage/potato/apple juice. Also, digestive enzymes and probiotics are important. Good luck!!

Part of your problem could be related to anxiety. I just started having symptoms have severe burning in the upper abdominal area. I do have a small hiatal hernia but the past year-and-a-half it has not bothered me recently my anxiety levels Sky High due to a lot of issues and I had the same pain 2 years ago when my anxiety was. My physical therapist discovered but the sphincter locations where the stomach connects to the esophagus and where the stomach connects to the small intestine and where the large intestine connects to the small intestine we're all stuck. The physical therapist I see is not just for exercise he is able to treat a wide variety of dysfunctions in the body utilizing a technique called fascial release. There are also points in the central nervous system the correlate to the stomach he was able to treat to relieve some of my symptoms. There are only a handful of physical therapists in the country who know these types of treatments. I'm not inferring that anxiety is your whole problem but it can definitely contribute to existing conditions substantially. This therapist is in Elmhurst Illinois. You could try researching on the internet for a therapist in your area who's trained in fascial release therapy techniques

I thought I swallowed a fish bone and had a contrast CT scan and an endoscopy done. Found out I have a hiatal hernia. Researching this, I found that this type of hernia can give the effect of a "lump" in your throat. Well, this lump is sometimes very painful and hard to swallow. My throat is hoarse and dries out very fast. I'm frightened of the surgery option but can't keep living with this feeling of choking. I've notice my weight gain in my upper abdomen or bloating that won't go away. In just one month, I've increased 2 dress sizes and I've truly am eating healthier. I also have fluttering of my heart and often have to cough to get it back to a regular heart beat. Just need to figure out where to go from here.

I am 15 and quite JUST today woke up with a lump in my throat. I checked the facts like the anxiety maniac I am, and found out I have GERD. At least, I hope it's not GERD. It's Christmas! I feel like hell! I need some help here, I haven't told my family that I have GERD, because I just found out myself.

My Dr said that I had chronic laryngitis I felt something when I swallowed. I visited my local ENT after numerous tests, most of which I had to pay for. . I was put on allergy medications and told that because I still smoked 5 cigarettes a day maybe that was the reason. What am I supposed to do. I'm in pain when I swallow but can't really get help with that. Thanks Dr S.

My acid reflux started back in 2019. It started out as pneumonia and they gave me antibiotics and a steroid inhaler. When the medication ran out, I went back to the doctor for a quick check up. He said I still hear phlegm in your lungs so I am going to give you a second antibiotic prescription and please continue to use the inhaler. So after the second two weeks or treatment it finally went away.

I was having burning in my throat. It was awful. After waiting two weeks to get in to see my doctor he was busy so his practitioner saw me. She looked in the back of my throat and told me my tongue was covered with thrush. I didn't know what that was so I got very scared and asked her what is it? She said "Oh it isn't anything to worry about, babies get it all the time. I will prescribe you a prescription".

So she gave me Nystatin swish and swallow. I learned pretty fast all about it because I have panic disorder and worry sick about every little heath problem. I went back and I needed a second prescription for that too. I never got sick much before all of this. I only got the flu shot one time years before this. Well I got very sick and felt like I was poisoned. My throat never stopped burning and I had a fever. This was just before the Covid-19 was announced on the TV. I went to get checked and found out that now I had influenza A.

Well they put me on the Z-pack and it was an awful three weeks for it to go away. I thought I would never get better. Finally I was able to play with my daughter and it felt good to be outside. Then two days later I got sick again. Same symptoms. Burning throat and phlegm with fever. I found out I had influenza B this time. How much more could I take??? I went in to a deep depression and the breathing therapy was not working for my panic disorder so they put me on Ativan.

That stopped the panic attacks but then along came the covid-19 scare. It was just awful and one of the lowest darkest places I have ever been. I thought death was imminent. I was crying and depressed and now I had to be stuck at home and it became so hard to even be seen by a doctor. Well finally my throat got so bad that I went to the emergency room. There was a very rude doctor who was complaining that he had to cover because the other doctor was sick and he was going on 16 hours shift. He looked at me and asked me are you saying your throat hurts because it is a little sore and you have panic disorder or does it really hurt??

I looked at him and said "I would not be in this place with the covid-19 floating around if it didn't hurt. He said "Okay let's get you some tests done". Well they looked in my throat and said you have thrush and I see acid reflux burns on the back of your throat. I said acid reflux? He said yes. I am going to give you a cocktail. I will be right back. I looked at my friend that drove me there and said I hope it tastes like Sloe Gin.

I didn't know he meant a cocktail of medicine. But I found out quick. I swallowed that wonderful mix and it took about 15 minutes but my throat stopped hurting! He referred me to an endoscopy doctor. I then had two scope done at the same time. It turned out that I have a hiatal hernia. They put me on omeprazole and told me to take ant-acid on days when I feel any burning. Well up until 3 months ago it worked perfectly. I was even able to have an occasional burger from McDonalds. But then it just stopped working and I got this lump in my throat feeling. I called for an appointment and they scheduled me for three weeks later.

This really scared me because I read so much about GERD causing damage and cancer. I mean it is on almost every site. That is just what a person like me with panic disorder needs to see. Well she looked in my throat and I have thrush again. Again they gave me nystatin. The thrush went away but my burning throat continued. So my endoscopy appointment is May 16th. She wants to put a chip in my throat to read the acid levels.

I thought I can tell you my acid levels. They are high! My throat is on fire! My voice is horse and I have a lump stuck in my throat feeling that won't go away. But I just said okay. I can't believe they are making me wait so long and I feel this is why so many people get worse because of the waiting for appointments and the damage that gets done. You are not alone and I know it is scary. I have been searching for a miracle throat coater to get me through until my endoscopy.

I won't let myself go to that dark place again because it only makes it worse. Now I do get breaks from the lump in the throat feeling but it does not last long. Even sitting straight up I feel the acid burning and that feeling starts again. If anyone out there knows of anything that could help coat my throat so that I could get just one decent nights sleep.

Please reply to this. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and maybe this will also help someone else because there is nothing worse than feeling no one understands. People can't see it on the outside so when you try to explain what you are going through, they say things like oh I had reflux once you should try Tums. But GERD is 10 times worse than just pizza heart burn for a half hour. It is forever.

Thank you.
