Hello,
I had tyroid surgery done and stayed at a whisper for three months. Now my voice is back, just overnight, but limited. It gets cracky a lot, and the more I talk, the worse it gets, byt people can hear me over the phone again. It can last 4-6 months, but possibly longer or permanently.
For teh swallowing, bend your head down when you swallow, that forces things the rigth direction. It should get better with some time.
I also have the feeling of an air bubble stuck in my throat when I swallow. No idea what to do about that. Have not found an answer.
Good luck, and be patient.
Hi. My name is Maureen and Im 43 years old. Im to have a total Thyroidectomy on Aug 16th, 2013. Im very concerned with all the responses Ive been reading as I love to sing and one of my favorite things in life is to communicate with others. Im a social butterfly as my husband tells me. I'm having it removed due to the fact as Im now on 350mg of thyroid medicine and have hashimoto. And also am having problems swallowing even before surgery. I had neck surgery in March 2012 and they are going to try and go thru the scar tissue where I had my fusion. Does anyone have any good advice for me before surgery... Please, the sooner the better
Please get another doctor's advice on this. I had mines done three weeks ago and didn't experience any of those problems at all. Soar throat for the first three days and a little pain, but that's it.
Has anyone considered suing the surgeons for malpractice? With millions of people undergoing/gone thyroid surgery it was described to me as easy as 'removing a toenail'.. 9 months post op I learn I have a paralyzed vocal right side and I do presentations for a living! That coupled with Calcium dumping which requires when too low an IV drip for 4- 6 hours at a time.
I know that these posts were a long time ago - but I am so sorry for all of you! I am glad that I didn't see these posts before I had my surgery 2 days ago - very scary. I was looking for a solution to air that seems trapped in my chest cavity after surgery. I can talk and am optimistic about singing in a few months, I guess I had a very good surgeon - I do have some coughing and congestion, but it could be a cold coming on - great timing. Praying for all of you, as I am sure that you are still dealing with this....
