methadone & missed periods!?!

Hey everyone, im new this "group " but after searching for answers to my situation i stumbled across this forum. Im not sure if anyone has recently posted on this but would love to hear back from anyone who can help?!

Heres my situation (: sorry if its a little longer ill keep it short i promise haha. I started mmt march of 2014 my little one was turning 1 which her day is march 31st so it was the 26th of march i believe. Anyways, I had never taken any methadone before and was on suboxone/subutex for a year before that. So from then til now ive been on methadone and currently at 110mg. Ive been trying to taper down but i didnt have the best counselor for the past year & asking her to taper me was honestly like asking for a 1million dollars. You would think i killed someone the way she made it seem like putting in the paperwork for it was too terrible or whatever.
Long story short... i had irregular period prior to treatment but it got even more delayed it seems. I was on birthcontrol up until december of this year which did help somewhat. I got my last period February 27th this year and havent had one since. Which its not uncommon. Id miss one month get it te next. So its not like i think im pregnant im definitely leaning towards mmt messing with my cycle. Last time i did have my period it was so terrible. I thought i was havibg a miscarriage thats how bad it was. *not making light of miscarriages* but it was so much bleeding like it wouldnt stop it was so painful like it was indescribable. It lasted like 9 days or something and thats it.
My fiance and i did have unprotected sex several times which is my fault i will admit .. but i also have had lower back cramps like a period would feel and my boobs are a little sore but not alot i do feel bloated. But other than nothing. But my lowerback has been feeling like that for about a week. Like when i normally get that feeling or pain in my back i know im about to get my cyle.
Idk if anyone could offer up a solution..
Should i try to wait a few more days? Start birth control to see if itl start it?

I am the same way recently. I started MMT January of 2017, and I missed my first period March 2017. It started with spotting the month of March, and April it didn't show AT ALL. I had ALL the pregnancy symptoms at first, and I had no clue the Methadone would delay your period. I haven't taken anymore pregnancy tests, but my stomach is getting a little bloated looking over the past 3 months. I am thinking that is from the severe constipation. My main confusions are that the missed period will cause me to have fertility problems in the future. Has anyone thought it was the MMT and actually end up being pregnant? I am going to test tomorrow morning to set my mind at ease!

Well... i am so happy i found this topic available on the internet! Im currently going through a similar situation. Ive been on methadone twice previously (sept. 2016-dec. 2016) (jan. 2017- feb. 2017). These were mmt treatment. Methadone management correct? I relapsed both times. I never had period problems at all. I moved away and started at a new clinic (i think they're liquid methadone is different, not 100% sure tho) started april 5th. Im coming up on two months and have not had a period this month. I had my period normally in april. I dont keep track of when I'm supposed to get it, but i know I've missed it for sure this month.

So here's the problem. I've had unprotected sex with my bf twice. Once at the beginning of the month and then a week or two later. I took a generic pregnancy test yesterday and the result was an extremely faint positive plus sign, this morning i took another one that said "no" but im having pregnancy symptoms. I've been pregnant 3 times before, so i kinda know the general things to look for. My breasts are tender and sore, my stomach is hard underneath all the fat (lol). But after reading this whole thread im starting to doubt that i am pregnant.

I already have a doctors appointment scheduled this Wednesday, as i have pre-cervical cancer issues, so i called up and asked to do a blood test to make 100% sure i either am or not pregnant. Ive had pregnancy tests come back "no" a lot and the blood test always proves them wrong! I usually am pregnant.

Has anyone had a similar experience? This thread was so helpful! This is the first time I've missed my period on methadone. I'm at 85mg currently. Prior to that the highest was 70mg. So I'm not sure if its either the type of methadone that caused it, or if i really am prego???? The only other side effects i have experienced on methadone are occasional constipation, resolved with eating a lot of dried apricots and being overly hot all the time and the excessive sleeping. I can't say i hate the whole sleepiness thing, because i love my beauty sleep.

Yes my period stopped a year after i was on methadone age 39 and never came back after 5 years on methadone

I'm someone who usually suffers every side effect listed n yes there a lot of side effects when it comes to methadone but u don't want to scare people off from trying it. It's worked wonders for me n I did suffer quite a few side effects but I adjusted when I reached the right dose for me n now everything is great. I drink my 80mls a day n go about my business. I'm missing my period for the first time since I started methadone n it's fine by me cuz I was told my partner can't have children so I don't mind missing it but I still suffer from the symptoms as if I was on my period but if that's the worst I have to deal with then I'm all good but don't let these things deter to u from treatment GOOD LUCK !!!

I've been on methadone for about 10 years and I completely agree with you I get my. Maybe once or twice a year I have extreme constipation and fecal impactions to the point where I was using suppositories almost every other day and enemas several times a month but I still only am able to have a bowel movement once a week if I'm lucky, having a blocked period Is great although having a blocked bowel movement is not

I know this is a older post, but I'm interested because I just got off of methadone after being on it for 7 years. I had no periods the whole time. Now I'm having my first period, and it's horrible. I thought I was having a miscarriage, it's that bad. Massive blood clots, pleading through a pad every 20 minutes, and the cramps feel like contractions. I am curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I have been on methadone for over a year now and my periods had been every 28 days for the first 20 years of my period and once I got on methadone they became completely irregular. Now it has completely stopped for 4 months and I have taken pregnancy tests all to come back negative. I have an appointment with a gyno on Jan. 30th but finding this forum just put me at ease. I'm only 30 and still want babies so I hope it returns. Any input of similar experiences would be appreciated!

8 damn years I didn’t have a period! I went through FULL menopause! I no longer felt like a women. It was awful! I couldn’t believe that us women would have to go through such. I didn’t have insurance and had hurt my back . I finally got insurance and went to a doctor who then put me on methadone pills! I have been going there for about 8 months. I am on my damn period. Flooding! I mentally feel awesome! Last week I was turned on lol for no reason. I hadn’t had that feeling in years. I would rather deal with periods for the rest of my life than go through that agin, and not even feel like a women! So yes if you take liquid methadone, beware! Oh, I didn’t put two and two together till I read this. I kinda thought it but none of the girls going there had that problem. I’m 50. I was 42 and the doctor thought I was crazy !

Take Mira lax I think is what it’s called. I get the one from the doctor. With my insurance I only pay 8$. If u buy it straight out it’s like 25$. U can put it in coffee everyday. U can’t taste it and there’s no stomach cramps or hardness. Try it!! It’s a miracle worker!

Guys I’ve been on methadone for 5 years and almost never had a period. Now coming off and it’s back. What a blessing

Omg I’m coming off methadone I’m down to 12mgs from 120something and my periods are awful now. Yes you would think it’s a miscarriage- all clots and sometimes lasts foreverrrrr
