I am so glad to know other guys are feeling these strings. I cannot take pills (I forget and they make me sick) so I felt like after long research to find the perfect birth control for me I thought the Mirena suited me PERFECT! However - noone warned me about the poking issue and my doctor, after putting the mirena in place, began to tell me all the things to expect. He told me it was all in the guys head and to not tell my husband about the strings and if he mentions anything then you can say something. So, that night....all of a sudden he felt a big poke and said it felt like a pin poking him on the end of the penis. So painful for him that I thought we were gonna have to stop (it never bothered me at all) - Now I'm getting worried that this will not go away unless I have it removed. I go in for a 2 week check up to make sure everything is in place - guess I will wait to see what he recommends I do about the problem.

I feel the same - I had mine insterted yesterday and feel as if I need to go to the washroom constantly. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. It must be relatively normal...no?

My boyfriend has been complaining about the scratching since I got it... and its gotten to the point where he has given up on sex with me completely because he is tired of it.  He says its at the base like every other guy, and I keep reading that it is going to soften eventually... I don't have medical so long-term was my only option... We've tried everything to make it comfortable for him, but it basically ruined our sexual relationship....

To tiffanie. I recently got the Iud implanted 7 weeks ago to stop my heavy periods and like you have never given birth when i got my period for the first time i bled for 2 weeks and the blood was brown which worried me, now anytime i lift anything heavy or have sex i get abdominal pain rangeing from a 2 to a 7, 2 being the lowest. my partner says he cannot feel the strings but i can and ive been told its due to the strings being to low and if the guy can feel it its down to short strings or strings retracting back up the opening of the womb, as i see from this forum the doc's tell you nothing i feel like getting mine removed now after all the effects you've said and i was not informed at all

I am having a biiiggg problem with my coil, I suffer with servere period pain the doctors have tried everything from pill to implants n injections, the last resort was the mirena coil I previously had one fitted for Three years with the usual discomfort for the first few days then all went really well no pain, no bleeding but had it taken out about 3 months ago as my partner and I want to try for a baby. But my periods started straight away and the pain was unbearable so I had the coil refitted 4 days later ... That alone is very painfull for me as I've never had children so my cervix isn't open, since having this one put in I am constantly having pains and I can honestly say I know what a contraction feels like I get these horrid pain every few mins and it feels like I need to push!!!! Sex can also some times be painful afterwards and I've had to stop during many a time because the pain is unbearable. Please can some one offer me some advice I'm only 21 and this is ruining my life as I'm bed bound the majority of the time as my leg are like jelly Thank x

Saying that it is just "rough sex" is very obtuse. It's safe to assume that sexual activity before and after insertion of the mirena is relatively the same, especially with partners who have been together for years. If it didn't hurt before and it hurts after, why on earth would you argue against a person's common sense?? Especially because most of the time, the sex is anything but rough--in fact, it barely IS at all, we're being so careful. I'm tired of people saying "its just rough sex" or "maybe you should be more careful." Someone please say something that's actually helpful!!

I just got the mirena put in on april 9th. I didn't have any cramping at all!! I read reviews online the week before I went into the OBGYN, and i was terrified. My boyfriend went to the appointment with me and my doc walked me through the entire procedure as she was doing it. She made it soo comfortable for me. later on in the day there was very very very MILD cramping. Nothing that I couldn't handle. Ive had worse mentrual cramps then what I endured dealing with the Mirena. I LOVE it. I can't believe that I was scared of getting it. To everyones own, you will NEVER know what it feels like if you don't try it for yourself. Yes it is good to read reviews and get insights, but like i said. you won't ever know for sure until you do it yourself. So far its working out prefectly fine. And i haven't had any bleeding at all.

I am almost 23 and I have had the IUD twice.. I have a 3 yr old and recieved the first IUD after my son was born ( he was vaginally delivered).. When I got it I didnt have really any problems with it except the strings would actully poke me as well and my bf.. We later then talked about another baby so had that one removed.. After deciding to not have another baby and to get the IUD again the second time around was WAY worse!! I actually ended up going to the ER because after it was implanted I got HORRID cramps and pains that felt like labor! But the doc said it was fine and gave me pain relievers.. It eventully got better but I had light bleeding for around a month.. And I still get pains and cramps here and there.. Now the last few months I havent got a period anymore but do get a little light bleeding sometimes after sex.. But this last wkend my Fience and I had sex and I cramped up horribly, I couldnt even stand up strainght.. I thought I was going to have to go in to the doc.. It eventually went away and I was ok, but when we had sex again I got the cramps and pains back.. So I have been doing research about it because the worry of it becoming imbeded really scares me.. not just cuz its a bad thing that could happen but because it could make me steril and I dont want that..

Does anyone know more symptoms or things to look for if your worried about imbedding or uterin tearing??

be careful if the strings are 2 short they will retract up into your uterus like mine have after only a month of being in, n still after cycts already an infection, hubby being poked and the painful intercoure they still wont remove it!. I'm sorry if we feel we want it out they should just take it out or is there problems with that as well that they are not tellin us?!
