the other day i had sorta the same problem. i just realized that it couldve possibly been the mirena but at first i couldnt figure it out. i started cramping really bad from the terrible pain in my lower abdomin and the got cold sweats and chills. after that i started feeling like i need to throw up but i didnt just grabbed a cold wash rag and laid down while my friend and my boyfriend talked to me to distract me and it went away except for the pain in my abdomin it got weaker but the next day i was sore from it all and it hurt to even walk. i wish i could get in to see my doctor sooner but i have to wait another month.

I just got the mirena in today! And omg it hurt like hell! Don't let anyone say it doesn't! I was reading all these comments and to the men.... If you don't like it then use a condom! I have been with my bf for 3 years and we will be getting married next year and we do not want kids right now. We both agrees to this. I had to go through that pain since I haven't had any kids it hurt badly. Haven't had sex yet but if he feels it he may have to just find a way to deal! And everyone's body is different!

oh this is just the info i have been looking for!! i had a copper iud inserted 10 days ago and only had sex 3 days ago..it was the worst pain i ever felt and the pain didnt stop afterwards either. the cramps were unbearable and i bled afterwards too..ive had sex multiple times since and my boyfriend takes it easy as he thinks hes hurting me but i swear we've only had this problem since getting the iud inserted but everytime after sex i bleed and cramp up..the little threads that also hang out of my cervix seem to prick my boyfriends penis and its kind of thrown us both off abit..and here i was thinking im just over-reacting..

I am a male and have this problem as well. I have had 3 partners in 2 years who decided to get the Mirena IUD. Once they get it in, it feels like my tip is getting shredding. It is so painful/unpleasant that it is impossible to stay hard. I'm 7 inches long and typically once I'm in about 3 inches I can feel it. None of Mirena's literature talks about this pain for men & it is annoying to hear the women describe it as my imagination. Birth control shouldn't be painful for the man.

I agree. It's not all in their heads. My partner didn't even know I had the mirena IUD in so how could he be making it up? He made me stop because it hurt. What guy does that? It was my only explanation.

I too have spotting & ruined panties. Very random. But the sex part is what will make me have it taken out. If it continues to 'poke' my partner, then it's not going to work for me. I got it almost a year ago.

I also have had bleeding after sex but I deliverd vaginally both times. I have just started to reaseach this because I checked myself the other day and could not find my strings. I can also feel something hard on one side of my cervix. I think it might be my IUD but I don't know. I am going to the doctor to see what is going on. It is helpful to know that some else has the same Issues.

I was informed by my ob gyn that the reason why my partner feels the strings is because they were cut too short. No fix for that one. Oops!!!! Sucks for us.

im not sure if you get on here still tiffanie but i have had the mirena for only 2 months and i have the same problem with bleeding after sex and i have given birth vaginally twice. every single time my boyfriend and i have sex i bleed for atleast 3-5 days and feel discomfort and pain during sex. I also have a problem where my strings started out not too long and now if i wasnt afraid to grab them and straighten them out that they would actually be outside my vagina and im afraid that during sex my bf would pull my mirena out during a thrust.

I have had my Mirena IUD in since the end of January.  Lots of spotting initially, but now it's down to just random spotting, and occasional heavier bleeding, usually around the time I would have a period.  The cramping however remains.  It doesn't happen every day, but at least 4 times a week, and usually after heavy exercise or towards the end of the day.  Sometimes it kicks in at the end of my work shift or on my drive home.  Sometimes the cramps are so bad they make me double over.  I have had several check-ups at my gyno, and he says that my body is still trying to reject the IUD, which can be common.  I'm basically trying to avoid a hysterectomy here due to fibroids.  I'm only 39, and trying to avoid the full-on surgery (I've already had ultrasounds, a hysteroscopy and a D and C).  I've also had 4 yeast infections since the placement of the IUD, and I had NEVER had one before in my life.  My doctor says that technically IUDs can't cause yeast infections, but that maybe the flora of my vagina has been disrupted by the hysteroscopy.  I don't know.  All in all, it sorta sucks, and I have seen a little weight gain as well.  I'm still trying to decide whether to keep the IUD in or not, but I just don't have a lot of other options, as the pill did not help w/ my bleeding from the fibroids and caused my migraines to get worse.  Ugh!
