OUCH! same pain from string or poking. My wife will get checked and post results here.

as i had said, if your partner is being poked by the mirena string it is too short. clipping the string will not help, the only thing that will fix this problem is to have it removed. Then you may have a new one inserted, or choose to not have one again. Cramping is normal, spotty periods are too. But.....YOU SHOULD NOT FEEL IT, nor SHOULD THE MAN, end of story.

ok well long story short my b/f and I also have the same pains. He can feel the "fish line" down there and it scraps him and I also get real bad pains when he goes all the way in. We have been trying to work on several positions, some do work but for the most part it sucks for me b/c i'm so focused on not getting hurt I can't enjoy it. Has anyone any advice? I've had the IUD for 8 months now and it's improved my endmetriosis. I would like to continue to have it but might try going back on 'the shot' if this issue keeps on presisting... :-(

Ive had the Mirena for almost 3 months now and have had none of the problems you people are talking about...well mostly. I do spot which is COMPLETELY NORMAL bc your uterine wall is shedding which over time wont be as thick (will return to normal when mirena is taken out) and is thought to be one of the causes mirena prevents pregnancies. ive had alittle more cramping but not to the point i feel like im having contractions....i guess everyone reacts differently. as for the discomfort during sex....none. ive even asked my partner how he feels during intercourse and he said at first he could feel it when i had it put in but that its not as noticeable now. and my ob/gyn left the stings long so that could be the reason why its no discomfort for myself or partner.

I had the Paraguard IUD for just over 5 years. The thing that is poking is the string which is a stiff thread that sticks out of the cervix. My husband used to complain of the same problem.
Now about the abdominal pain with the IUD I had alot of the same problems and pain during sex.
I would have very bad cramps and sharp pains in the middle of the month for no reason. It was bad after insertion then about 3 months later is wasn't so bad but I recently had it removed because all the problems came back about 4 years in.
My sex drive decreased because of the pains. My Gynecologist said the IUD did NOT puncture my uterus or anything but it may have become inflamed or irritated from having it.
During the last year that I had it in I spotted 3 weeks out of the month and ruined tons of panties. I can say I am very glad I had finally taken it out.
Hope this helps someone.

i've had my mirena iud for about 9 months now, i got it put in when my son was 6 months old. I had him vaginaly, the dr. suggested mirena as my best bet since im not so great at keeping track of my pills.
i had really bad cramps right off the bat, for about 2 weeks. i was spotting for about 4 months afterwards, and ruined most of my pretty panties D:
sex hurts all the time, everytime. theres not a position we've tried that works.
it hurts, i spot, its no fun. and i started having cramps today that are worse when i sit down- thats how i found this topic.

hi,
an IUD should not be causing any pain for a guy. if the guy is feeling a sharpness on deep penetration, then it is probably because whoever put in the IUD has cut the strings too short. this causes the strings to be almost like barbs that stick out. of course anything that hits it will be painful.
strings should be an inch long really, as with the warmth of the vagina causes the strings to soften and curve around the cervix. then they are not felt during intercourse.

I too had complaints and heard a few from my partner for the first few months after insertion. The same complaints as described by many others. Cramping, spotting and strings poking and scraping. The string is now soft, coils around my cervix and can not be felt by my partner. I only spot on rare occasions and it only occurs after rough sex. As for the cramping...it still occurs, however, has been reduced by practicing good posture, staying hydrated and doing my kegal exercises. Go figure!?!?

My wife has had mirena for less than a week. The first time I got poked in the underside of the head time and time again. It hurt a lot. It actually poked holes in me. It is more like a wire than a string, fairly stiff and sharp. I never got poked in the weewee hole but I would probably sue if i did. Maybe I am extra sensitive down there? Although I have had a catheter without much of a flinch and i have a very high pain tolerance.
Attempt # 2, she went to the gyno and got the strings cut, less that 2 minutes and not even that deep and I felt a little poke. Not too painful buit memories of the last time made me pull the stops before it got ugly. Even this time, it obvioulsy poked a hole because I still feel iritation like getting a small cut or after getting a shot or something.
Mirena sucks. I can't touch my wife until it is gone, no 3rd strike for this guy, or I will literally be Swiss Cheese Johnson. For the rest of you daredevils, good luck and safe shagging!

hi i was reading all of your threads and you guys have given me great insight... as far as my partner feeling the strings, he never did or does, but sex has been on the down fall only because i won't stop spotting at all! i got my iud inserted a month ago to the date and it has been the most uncomfortable thing i've ever!!!
literally at the moment i am sitting on the couch in pain!! i feel my uterus to be extremely swollen and hard and i am in sooo much pain!!! i am going to call my dr tomorrow and schedule an appointment to just have it removed, the pain has been unbearable right now... for the past week i've been in just pure pain to where i've lost sleep over it and can only sleep in a certain position...
hopefully i'll get it taken out and just go back again to using the pills, even though i don't like them... but seriously i am in so much pain right now that i don't want this inside me...
has any one ever encountered this? also, how long did you have the spotting or bleeding? cuz seriously its been 2 months (i had a miscarriage 2 wks before i had my period and then got the mirena inserted - needless to say, i've been on my "period" for the past 2 months) and i hate this... don't like it at all!
help!

hey every one... so last night i posted a reply to the thread... and guess what? my pain got so severe i ended up in the emergency room and had to have my mirena removed... at first they thought i might have PID, but after tests and everything coming back negative (thank god) they had to rule out it was the iud... literally as soon as it was pulled out all the pain and discomfort i was feeling was gone! in an instant!
so now i don't have the damn iud in and i feel great with the expection of just sorenss in my cervix and the fact that im bleeding like its no one's business... lol...
but never again will i have an iud.. screw it! i'll go back to the pill or give me the damn shot and i'll even start working out super hard so that i don't pack on the pounds
thanx for any one that read this!

Hi,
I've had my IUD inserted for 2 years now. My husband do complain that he can feel something, I guess it must be the string. But I don't feel anything at all. My problem is, after having sex few days in a row, I would bleed. It's not my period because I would know and it would be a week and so but this lasted for 2 days. It is very liquid, pinkish color. Have any of you have ever experience it? This only happen when I have sex many times in a row. I always thought that maybe the wall is scratch due to the string or having had sex always causes the walls be sore and then bleed. I don't really know but can anyone help and explain why it is so?

Hi,
My special lady friend got an IUD about a month ago. We had sex a couple days later and everything was fine during sex, although she was suffering from cramps. She was gone for 2 weeks on vacation, suffering from cramps the whole time.
When she returned we had sex and I felt a poke in my "weewee" hole. Now I'm scared to have sex. We thought the strings would be soft by now, but apparently not. Neither of us could feel the strings with our hands.
From a post up thread it sounds like the strings could be too short. If she can't feel the strings, is this something they need to fix... free of charge?
