Hey everyone,
I am very sorry for all the women in this forum that are having all these negative symptoms that seem to be caused by Mirena.
I had the mirena inserted 1 month ago. Before I decided that was the road for me, I researched a lot and fortunately my doctor was thorough in explaining how it works; side effects etc. Anyway, one of the steps the doctor told me was NO SEX for the first 5 days after IUD insertion (in order for mirena to comfortably sit in place and for no discomfort). I have not had any issues so far. I am very happy I got this Mirena now. I hope the women reading this, research thoroughly before doing ANYTHING that involves any foreigh object placed in their bodies. Good luck to all~ :-D

I just recently had my IUD placed in, my doctor told me that if you get severe pain and begin to vomit it means that the Mirena has penetrated through the upper most part of you uterus and you need to get it checked out at once. I hope that this will help someone.

You are not alone!!!
I had my son in late February, and have had Mirena because my insurance ran out shortly after my follow-up. I have HATED it since day one. It stabs my boyfriend in the penis, and it makes sex super painful for me. In addition, I've gained about 20lbs, and my hair is falling out in clumps for months now. I'm hungry literally 24/7. Half hour after I eat, I'm hungry again.
I got it removed yesterday, and I couldn't be happier. I'm going back to my old standard, Nuvaring. Hopefully I'll also be able to shed some of this weight. Nuvaring even has this little downloadable timer to remind you when to switch.
Good luck, I hope you start feeling better.

I had my mirena put in 3 months ago, after deciding to swap from the pill because I had a decreased libido. Ever since I've have had the most awful, sharp cramps, and intercourse has been very painful. It's not just when it's too deep that it hurts, but the vagina muscle itself seems to hurt also. After intercourse I get cramps too. I'm afraid that this pain is going to cause a psychological aversion to sex. I saw a doctor last week who brushed it off and told me to see a sexual counsellor but this has sealed the deal for me. I'm going to have it taken out asap!

As far as having rough sex goes, before I had the mirena put in, we had rough sex all the time, and the pain associated with that, is nothing like this. Someone stated earlier, that this is why there are so many forms of birth control out there, because some work great for others, but not everyone. I now believe that the pain I've been having during intercourse is directly as a result of the mirena, and obviously now, so do many other people, as a result of this forum. This pain isn't normal. I've tried to persist with the mirena for 3 months and it hasn't gotten any better. I had an ultrasound too, and everything if fine internally so this is the only conclusion I can come to. I'll be having it removed asap.

I've had the Mirena for about 5 months now. Very painful insertion, strings poked husband, lots of spotting. Now after the first 3 months, all went away. The strings need to soften, do NOT get them cut short, will be more "pokey" and may need surgery to remove if the strings go into uterus. My thing that just happened last night was extreme cramping during sex. Never had that before this whole time, still a little crampy today... I don't know why all of the sudden?

so I've had man of the same problems, bleeding after sex, and stomach pain, and well my vagina hurts on the inside, but i wasn't sure if that was from doing it too many times with in a few days (for i only get to see my boyfriends every once and awhile) But he hasn't experienced any poking, in fact i've never been after to feel the strings myself (i figured it was because my fingers were so small, so i even had my boyfriend check and he didn't feel them either), i informed my doctor i couldn't do string checks because i couldn't find them and she told me that it is probably because of my small fingers and checked and said everything was in place.
I just tend to get over worried, because I am an unlucky person and I just have a feeling that that luck is gonna strike. It's good to hear I'm not alone...

The scratches on your penis don't reallly need to be handled by a urologist. A normal GP could help or you can treat at home by not having sex for a few days and putting some ointment cream on it. Does that make sense or help at all?

Another Male here that has felt the pain from the wires inside. My wife has had this IUD for about 4 months and it has not been fun at all.

I posted nearly 2 weeks ago about this forum confirming that it was the mirena causing my painful intercourse. I am happy to say I had it removed 2 days ago. My partner and I had sex the day before and it was painful. I had it taken it out and then the day after it was removed we had intercourse and the pain had completely gone!

Hi there. I am so happy to hear that you were at least able to find the source of the pain where you two were having sex. Thank you for letting us know because I think you cleared up an issue for a few other couples as well. Thanks again!

I have an iud, I had it for over a year and a half now. I had recently came out of a very long term relationship and I am new to dating. I have been with my bf now for several months, and we recently had sex for the first time. He is not small and I could feel my iud pushing further up inside me. It hurts sooo bad and I cried. The next day my stomach is sore, bloated and I'm cramping. I'm wondering if it just irritated my ovaries or if there may be something wrong. Has anyone else had this happen?
