I've had mirena for two years and have had a lighter than normal, regular period the whole time, no other problems. I've lost all of my weight from the pregnancy...about 60 lbs.

I have had a new mirena every 5 years for almost 15 years total. Never having a period. This last November in 2016 I started my period, I became really concerned bc after 15 years of no period and then all of a sudden having a period...??? I called my gyn and went in for a check. He examined me and said the mirena was dtill in place and told me that if my body needed to have a period it was going to, but after 15 years??? It just didn't make sense. So from after that I have had periods every month. Slight cramping and a very light flow that lasts 5-7 days. It still concerns me bc it's I has been so long that I have been without a period and at 34 i start to have one... does anyone have any idea of to why this may happen??

Have you ever heard of adenomyosis? I was misdiagnosed for 14 years with endometriosis. They can't see adenomyosis on normal ultra sounds so they told me for years they didn't see anything wrong. Your story sounds a lot like mine. And this iud is terrible because I have a question mark snapped uterus.

I am 48 years old and in 96 I had my tubes tied after the birth of my son. He was a surprise a miracle baby that I was told I can never have. Anyways 3 years ago I went to my gyno and informed him that I had not had a menstrual cycle 4 a long time and even then it was infrequent. I didn't think anything of it I was just happy I wasn't bleeding every month. He told me that was not a good thing because my body was still anticipating a pregnancy and was building up my uterine wall. So he suggested that I get an IUD. So I got the mirena. I have had it for 3 years and in that time have not had a menstrual cycle or any bleeding even during sex which I was having a lot of. Now I noticed that I am spotting and that there are clots and older looking blood. I am starting to have a slight cramping that you associate with your time of the month. Otherwise I have not had any problems at all with this product. The insertion was painless I have had no problems with sex. After looking at this blog I realize that this is a regular occurrence it seems at the 3-year mark so as of right now I am not going to worry about it. I do not have health insurance of any kind so I'm going to wait and see what happens and then I will probably go see my general practitioner because a visit to my gyno would cost me over $500. I just wanted to tell my story thank you all for sharing yours

The mirena is supposed to be replaced every 5 years, according to my doctor.

Wow. I'm getting very worried after reading many of these replies. I got the Mirena Put in about 2 1/2, 3 years ago now. The insertion was fine, obviously with some discomfort and having my period for well over a month. Otherwise though, no problem. I never had my period again after that one full month until now. I don't feel any discomfort but even when I didn't have the IUD, I never had cramps during my period. but I have started spotting every couple of months now and this month I am bleeding more than I have the last few times. I did two pregnancy tests because I got worried and I'm not pregnant. I also have checked to make sure the IUD is still in place and I can still feel the string. I just don't understand why after 3 years am I all of a sudden starting to get my period back. Should I be worried at all?

Hi all, have any of you considered Menopause? I've had my mirena for 3.5 years (been having them for 8 years in total with no issues). I started bleeding about 18 months ago with the onset of the dreaded Menopause, I'm guessing the change in hormones is causing the bleeding. I'm nearly 49. Xxx

Definitely not menopause for me. I'm 30, almost 31 and about 2 months ago the long periods started. I've had very light periods the entire time with Mirena and usually it lasted 3 days or so. Now it's 2-3 weeks of bleeding for the first week and then spotting the rest of the time. I've noticed constipation is now an issue and I've tried everything that used to help if I ever felt bloated. I've been crazy bloated for about 3 weeks now and am not sure what the hell is going on with my body. Thinking about getting my tubes tied. Over dealing with birth control and it's side effects.

Omg! At this very moment I am having the exact same problem & I've also been bleeding for 3 weeks but my doctor said it's probably just the horomones but I've also been having bad cramps.. So I don't know what can be the reason!! It's so painful

I've had the IUD for about 3 1/2 years now and I stopped my period for about a month but had it every since but now all of a sudden I'm spotting for this period.. all my periods are pretty mush a moderate flow but on the 3rd day I at least go through 5 super tampons a day! But it's day before the last day of my period and I've been wearing regular tampons the entire time! I've been having unprotected sex and scared to take a pregnancy test.. I hope it's a fluke with the birth control and hormones. Anyone else had this problem or similar?

I am on my second Mirena and about 4 years into it. I recently started bleeding consistantly every month and now I am experiencing bleeding light for a few days, then heavy with cramping. Which I have not felt in 9 years since my twins were born. I had to have the first IUD removed surgically because the doctor cut the string too short and my GYN could not remove it in office without severe pain. She took old one out and placed new one while I was still asleep. I had one instance that I thought the IUD had moved because I had uterine pain, but Ultrasound said it was fine. Doctor said to take some advil. I am getting mine out in about 6 months. I am 43 and do not want any more kids and my husband will not do a procedure. What other forms of birth control are good in this instance. (I cannot do injections, I had a bad reaction to them).

My GYN told me that with the Mirena I would "fly" through menapause. But... I have night sweats and now have a period again with cramping (something I never had even as a teenager). I am doing a TV Ultrasound tomorrow to see if my uterine lining has thinned out due to the Mirena (two total). She said that the fix would be prescribing me estrogen. Anyone have this experience? Oh and I just turned 43 last month. My mom was early with menapause so I kind of expect it early as well.
