I have severe bloating too.. looks like I am 7 months pregnant some days. but I know I am not pregnant with the Mirena. I am also experiencing bleeding 1-2 times a month. Light for a few days, then stops for one and then starts heavy with cramping and bloating. I am getting the Mirena out in 6 months, so tubes tied may be the next thing for me. I am 43 and definately do not want any more kids..

I had my first mirena for 5 1/2 years and it was great. No periods for this whole time. I had it replaced in October (apx 9 to 10 months ago)- which was pretty painful as the strings had coiled up and I have some scarring now. For the past month I have felt discomfort around my vulva. It comes and goes and can even be quite uncomfortable to sit. Now I have noticed some light brown spots today. Wondering if others have come across the same thing. Oh I've also put on a stack of weight.

I had my IUD placed in November 2013, and had a very light period following insertion. Since then I had maybe a handful of spotting episodes, no period. Then one day about 2 months ago in the middle of work it felt like a mix of labor pains and built up gas, came on suddenly and made it near impossible to work the rest of the day. I was nauseous, light headed, couldn't go to the bathroom or eat. I had light spotting, then nothing for 15 hrs. Then again light spotting, and nothing till the next day. I have been bleeding for 2 months now, and they say everything is fine. They did an ultrasound thinking it was a cyst rupturing, but they didn't see anything unusual. So I persisted and asked for another evaluation since I've been extremely bloated, light headed, fatigued and breaking out like crazy. The pain is crazy, and when I have to change tampons every 3 hrs or less it's a problem.

I had a friend say hers had ran out before it was scheduled to and she just had it replaced early, I asked my doctor but she said it should be fine. I feel like this is an ongoing side effect with the IUD, with all the posts I've seen I'm debating on just being done with it.

Not having your period with an IUD is completely normal, some women love it and some think it's weird, I've have two since 2003 after having my daughter and love it and the fact that I don't have periods! I don't think it's for everyone especially if it make you nervous or have anxiety about having foreign objects in your body! All these things happen to people with and without IUDs it's the life of a female most times and then there are actual times the IUD might be the cause of issues but again I love mine but they aren't for everyone! Good luck ladies!

My mom had a 3 month heavy flow period. They tried a d&c (basically scraping the walls of the uterus to thin the lining) and when that didn't hold, they had to give her a hysterectomy.

I just got my second Mirena IUD this week (removed old one and got new one same visit). I loved my first one, and the only trouble I have is during insertion ( I have a really high uterus and my cervix/uterus is tilted making very difficult to access, -and very very painful). I had occasional break through bleeding with the first IUD but it was very light. Having suffered from endometriosis and heavy difficult periods I didn't mind the occasional spotting. I'm on day four of my second one and still bleeding and cramping but am hopeful it will end soon. My doc did a sonogram afterwards to be sure it was in place correctly and all was good.

I have had this mireana in for two years and I have been have light bleeding/spotting since it was inserted. Now I am on week three if light bleeding and getting fed up. No sex for months. I am 45 and overweight could these be factors for the continuous bleeding?
