Okay I have had my mirena for about a year give or take now. I have been able to feel my strings at times and my boyfriend can occassionally feel them while we are having sex. My periods have become very light to the point that I only need to have a panty liner around that time of month. But I am concernd because I am still spotty and my period ended a week ago.

I have had Mirena for a little over 2 years. My fiance' really has a problem with the Mirena. Early on, he noticed a stinging sensation when we were having intercourse. I went to my gyno and he trimmed the strings. Well, its months later and he is still having the problem. It has gotten to the point where after intercourse, he is scratched up really bad in the same spot over and over again. My gyno says that if he trims the strings anymore, i will have to get the Mirena surgically removed when I take it out. Needless to say, intercourse has dramatically decreased due to him being scratched and in pain. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my Mirena in for four months now and although i'm not bleeding heavy with every period like before, (needing max pads every half hour and could'nt work on the first day because of bleeding and pain) I'm bleeding more often (every 8-10days). Its very light and can use a tampon. But was hoping for them to stop all together. My partner is losing patients. This was supposed to help with my relationship, not hinder it. Does the bleeding adentually stop. Am I impatient?

Hi all.  I have an amazing suggestion:  I have had difficulty with the Mirena and pokey strings also.  I got a diaphragm (not for the birth control obviously) to block the string and I insert it at the right time. ;-) It takes about 10 seconds and works as a barrier between the male part and the pokey string.  Never had a problem since, any position. Hope that helps you all!!!  Please spread the word! :-D

My guy could feel it at first, but it didn't bother him. He said it even felt kind of nice. The strings softened up and now he doesn't feel it at all.

OMG, my husband had the same problem so I went and got the strings trimmed and now they cannot find it. I was not told of that possibility.

I am in the same boat. I wanted my Mirena out because of the side effects (that the doctors blow off anyway) and when my OB tried to find the strings, they weren't there!!! So, a quick ultrasound showed that the IUD is malpositioned in my uterus. Now I have to have a formal ultrasound, and then get it surgically removed:( I am terrified that something will go wrong and I will have to have a hysterectomy!!

I have had the Mirena inserted twice! The first time my partner felt the strings and I was having pain.. Plus the bleeding never stopped.. So I had it removed! I then went to a different G.Y.N and had it inserted the second time.. My partner and I have not had any issues! Im guessing it depends on the doctor who inserts it! Makes me wonder do they just follow the directions on the box or actually have some type of practice!!

This is the second time I've had the IUD and haven't had any problems. My fiance got poked by the strings and I just went in and had them bent back a bit and now everything is fine.

I'm 22 yrs old and gave birth to my first and only child in 2010. I heard about Mirena and though what a great idea. I have the worst memory and never could remember to take a pill.    Up until the last 6 months i have had no problem with Mirena, but recently every time my boyfriend and i have intercourse he bleeds a lot. We were covered in blood when we finished.  I don't know if its because he's not circumcised.  Now he wont even touch me.    I have never been able to feel any string.  My doctors never told me about any string.  Has anyone had this problem?
