I am almost 48 years old and have had issues with a positive ANA since I was in my late teens. I successfully carried a child full term when I was 33. I heard that once a woman has 3 miscarriages, they test for an ANA because it is a likely cause, so apparently it is a little tough to carry a child because your body thinks it is a foreign invader and flushes it out. I was told, and know it is successful, that talking a baby aspirin a day during the pregnancy will usually help prevent a miscarriage. My neighbor did it and they had her quit taking it about 2 weeks prior to delivery. I would discuss it with your OB, but it is possible. My fear now, and the reason I am researching it, is that my 14 year old daughter has an ANA!

Wow... My 13 year old daughter just tested positive for ANA... She had mono when she was 6 after sharing drinks with her older cousins. Doctor has told us she needs to see a pediatric rheumatologist right away and possibly a pediatric immunologist as well.. I was told its NOT arthritis or Lupus. So what is it? She s ha fevers for 16 days now, migraines, blurred vision, and mild body aches. Anything anyone can tell me please help?!?!?

I had mono when I was in junior high school, I am now 58 and have fibro and chronic fatigue. My Dr. did an ANA test and it showed negative. I don't see how this can be if I have these problems.?

I see that these posts are quite old, most over a year, but I'm hoping there are still people around to contribute. I am a 50 yr old female, and just tested positive for ANA, but was never tested before so I'm thinking I would have years ago had I been tested. I had an extremely severe case of Mono when I was 12 years old. It lasted for 6 months, and I missed the whole last half of my 6th grade year. Since then I have ALWAYS had extreme fatigue and joint pain. The doctors believe I contracted Mono because of my extreme level of activity (actually think I had Epstein Barr Virus - but cannot confirm). I was in cheerleading, softball, 4 different types of dance class, and very active socially. After the mono, I did cheerleading, but I was always in pain, and always tired, and would usually sleep the weekend away every moment I had. My father has Psoriasis, and I have had it lightly since I was 5, but have never been treated for a breakout until I was in my mid 40's. I have such a sensitivity to the sun that I never go outside for more than 30 minutes at a time anymore...any longer and I have little blisters everywhere, and my eyes just cant take it...even with sunglasses, it's like knives in my eyes. It has definitely gotten worse as I've gotten older...everything has. So recently I got this HORRIBLE raised bumpy itchy scaly condition on my right hand. It started on my ring finger, and slowly spread to my middle finger, and then started to spread to my first finger. Decided to go to a Dermatologist because it started to crack and bleed. She determined it was Eczema ...which is a completely NEW symptom, never had that before, nor has anyone in my family. While there she looked at my right hand and said.... "have you ever been to a Rheumatologist? It looks like you might have arthritis". She mentioned that if it was Psoratic or Rheumatoid, or Osteo, the progression could be slowed down, so that's the only reason I went to my GP, who then asked for the blood tests to start digging deeper.
I guess since I had mono at such a young age, my fatigue levels are "normal" to me since I've always lived with it that way....but since I'm older, I definitely notice when other people keep going and I cant. I have extreme joint pain in every joint and usually takes me about 30 minutes and a hot shower in the morning to get moving without major pain. I've had my left knee completely replaced, and my right knee needs it. Every woman in my family has started on thyroid meds after age 60, but i'm still not there yet, but I'm wondering if it's a side effect of this, and we just don't know. I have often wondered if my Mono caused many of my health issues over the years. My immune system is total c**p...I get sick WAY more often than most people even though I am taking major supplements, eat healthy and exercise...and see a nutritionist. I just think that my body will never be the same...and hoping I will not develop something worse now. If anyone can offer any suggestions, on helpful tactics to prevention I'm up for it. I'm considering acupuncture, have been for awhile, and saw someone else's comment that it helped her...but I'm not sure what to tell them to focus on. Any ideas?
