Don't cut them in half. ER kind is timed. It will thow you into a tissy. Do the slow way of weaning down by 15 mgs. at a time. When I was just taking one, after 4 days I stopped cold. It is day 7 and still hard. I am going to tuff this out, and get better. This evening is a bit better.I wish you all the best.

Hi 0145,
I almost fell off my chair when I read you were cutting the slow release morphine in 2. They are not scored to be cut. The post above mine is so true. They are time released and if cut in two you don't know what you're getting.
I also made a deal with the devil and was up to 300 mg. of morphine a day. I withdrew 15 mg at a time and gave myself 2 weeks to a month to decrease the next 15 mg. tab. You will probably have some days that are better than others.
It sounds like this doctor is doing the same taper my new Pain specialist is doing. He added a med which is like Lyrica, I forget the name. It's to ease the withdrawal. Ask your doc about that. Lyrica is also used to help ease withdrawal. Has this doc done any deep breathing, meditation of anything like that?
Right now I'm seeing the tail end of Oxy and Flexeril.
Good Luck,
Barbara

thank you, i updated my story under "morphine withdraw" page. i started this juney in may, not its days away from october. yes, one hell of a ride. i was on serveral scripts for years. naturally the 300mg. of morphine was the worst. i stopped everything. am i 100% better now, no. brain still craves what its used to, and body still reacts, but i'm well. i give my soul to sleep 8 hours straight, hell 6,, i'm not greedy. and i am tired of people saying oh, nice to hav you back, but there right. i am back, and better than ever. all the emotions i surpressed the last 10 years hav surfaced, and that hurts, but i made it, and lived to tell. thank yu for your kind words, you are right, doctors do not know how to really help. i'm happy for you that you made it too!

please, type in >Morphine withdrawl" in the search box, and read my story. i'm at month 6 of withdraw (and for the record, morphine sulfate, oxycontin as other names, all opiate, all the same, just what the insurance will cover that month i took them all, only difference is the name, morphine is morphine. i cut it all off, told the doctors off, stopped cold turkey.......this takes months. but, its so worth it. please read my story, i hop it helps w/your questions. i tried to cover everything in hope to help others. good luck, and stick with it, its so worth it. god bless all.

That doc really commited a criminal act when she didn't offer any help in getting off them. If she didn't know how she should make it her responsibility to find a pain doctor who will wean you off slowly. Her method of the abdrupt cold turkey belongs in the dark ages. It could end in seizures or a stroke.

If possible can you go back to her and ask about a pain clinic? The med which is really helping in my withdrawal is Clonidine(Canada)

Good luck,---Oct 2

Hi Barus, so sorry you are going through this withdrawl, apparently without help you need from the doctor. I was on morphine for 10 years, yes with a pain specialist. I weaned down 15mgs at a time, and the doctor let me decided when to make the decision to bump down, when I was ready. I also got some help for the "jitters" restlessnes with klonopin. No matter what you do, there is going to be some discomfort. It is awful. I am now one month without any. I am better after two weeks of really feeling bad. I made it over the hump and so can you. Mostly even with pain, I tried to wear myself out, so I was able to relax more. Don't give up, it does get better every day. A fog has lifted.

my story is under morphine withdrawl, put it in the search box, i've tried to keep my story updated on a monthly basic.......i also was told by doctors to wean off...worst advice i got.....after 2 months of going thru what you are experience, i just said F-it, and stopped.....over 240mg a day, i stopped....was it easy, hell no, but worst part was 3 days of tummy pain, then i was back at where i was on the weaning process...and you will go thru that a couple months. i'm at month 8, i'm 80% better, but still have sympthoms...not easy, but trust me when i tell you i am so much better, and now i'm thinkin of actually doing something to stop these doctors (mine were pain management)-from doing what they did to me, and messed up 10 years of my life....check out my story, and contact me...you will need everyone, and anyone, to talk with, b***h too, trust me, you can do this...only thing i found to help, FOOD, eat, eat, eat...and it sould be sweet..i ate a box of cookies a nite, chocolate, everything--yes, had the bullet mouth, but surgar will get you thru this, and eat 2 vitamins a day.........and drink fluides.YOU CAN DO THIS.............

Hi,

Thank you for your help. I don't so much need immodiom as I'm being affected the other way. I have to practically od on constipation meds.

What are tramadol and benadryl? Are they priscriptions? I live in Canada.

Thanks,

Hi barus, tramadol is a pain killer with less risk. There is a withdrawl to it however if you are on a high enough dose. Benadryl is for alergy, and has a tendancy to make you sleepy, help maybe for withdrawl from morphine. I used the Klonopin which is like zanax, or valium for two weeks during the worst of it. I do wish you all the best. ginnie

Do not listen to the other poster saying you cannot cut extended release tablets. The entire extended release tablet is extended release--- they are designed to be cut. so long as the resultant piece is not powder it will time release just fine. Make sure you take plenty of water, at least 2 liters a day. Spasms from morphine are caused by not taking enough water during the day. Space out the water you take over the day. The doctor's advice is the best especially since you have followed the rules and not taken more than you were prescribed. It doesn't matter how long you are on the medicine- but never take more than you need to control the pain.

That is not what two pain specialists told me. They told me absolutely not to cut them in half. He said it realeases qucker by doing that. One was a pain speciaist, and one was a Physiatrist/pain specialist. I can't believe both of them would be wrong.

Hi,
Re: cutting extended release morphine sulphate tablets. I have also been told by two specialists never to do that.
I read a post which itemizes exactly how to crush the tablet, mix it with water, and on to another step in order to abuse it.
I do not believe that advice pertains to people under doctor's care and are getting clean, the right way.
Sorry if I sound self righteous. I'm just trying to protect people who might be thinking of cutting the tablet.
