hi, im a 40 year old woman and ive been having some burning and discharge from my urethra for about 6 months now on and off. ive seen an uroligist and had a scope done, he says theres nothing he can see wrong. he says i may have IC. ive been on the ic network talking with lots of suffers and none of them really have the mucus discharge. ive stopped drinking coffee and soda and my symptoms seem to go away for a while but right after my period i start having the discharge, i know its comming from my urethra because i can tell, and after it burns for a few minutes. have you ever heard of this problem? also, been tested for all std's- all neg. thanks jules
HI! As far as I know, interstitial cystitis is a nasty disease whose symptoms can vary widely from mild to severe and there is a wide range of possible symptoms including urethral discharge that can be watery or mucosal. Although not that common, urethral discharge can appear in IC sufferers.
Periods do aggravate symptoms as well as sexual intercourses. Although there are no scientific proves that certain foods aggravate the symptoms, practice tells differently. Some women even reported having severe symptoms after eating. So, if you notice anything similar, you would know what foods to avoid.
If your doctors fail to find a suitable treatment or relieve the symptoms, you may turn to naturopathy that includes eliminating certain foods and taking herbs and supplements and some women find acupuncture effective, but you would have to find someone who is experienced enough.

I have the same mucus discharge and have been told that it is likely I have IC. So you are not alone. Hope this helps. Take care, Trish.
