Hi...I've had the same problem since 2008, have been under the care of both a neurologist and a rheumatologist for a few years now. The rheumatologis diagnosed fibromyalgia approx a year ago...prescribed gabapentin which helps more than other meds. I am not much for sweets, but did start eating some lollips yesterday, did have some short episodes yesterday (1/15/16); and jus t suffered a bout of lenghty episodes today after eating another lollipop. It did cross my mind yesterday that the candy may have provoked the episodes; so I'm glad to have read your story, as you made the same connection I suspected after eating the candy. Tks for sharing!

I get the same type of inner thigh spasams. And they are the most painful spasams over any other and you described it exactly. I finally found a doctor who told me my vitamin d was low and that was what was causing these type of spasams. When i started taking the vitamin d the spasams stopped. I still get them every now and then but I've usually have not taken my vitamin d in a while. Hope this helps you!

Thank you for your reply. I too am Vitamin D deficient and I do take supplements but not always faithfully. I will be mindful of this and see what happens.

Well I'm reading all of these stories and I am SO GLAD I finally see others online with the same stories. For the longest time no one knew what I was talking about. These inner thigh pains literally take your breath away. They are excruciating and NOTHING in comparison to the little calf cramps. At least you can get rid of those with the right manipulation but these are the Mothers of cramps! Starts as a tightening in the inner thigh an just takes off from there! No manipulating, no walking, sitting, laying will relieve it. This bad boy just brings you to your knees. Once I had one so bad I had a huge bruise on my inner thigh. I have no idea why these happen, no doctors have diagnosed it or have any idea what it really is. They treat the complaint as if it were a normal leg/calf cramp. I do know drinking plenty of water and the use of magnesium is supposed to help along with potassium but I had a terrible health problem with potassium so that should be a dr's call. I just read an article where magnesium taurate was recommended to one victim of these horrid cramps and if worked for her. I think I'll just be more diligent with water, magnesium and get my potassium from bananas. Will keep on this forum to see if there are any other suggestions.

Has anyone gotten an answer for this yet? It sounds as though if I go to my doctor, it's going to be a complete waste of time and money. Last night was the first time that I experienced than in both of my inner thighs normally it's just on the right side. But last night was the worst that it has ever ever ever ever been. I was just hoping that somebody may have an answer.

I too have them and my doctor says that I have pulled or twisted the muscle. I'm on potassium pills and try to drink alot of water. Now not only in the night while I'm asleep these occur now I can be sitting on the couch or floor n they will happen n I even start to cry cause of the pain is so intense. What the heck is it that is causing this. I feel at times something sharp is ripping me from the groin to my knee or something like a pencil is going through a major vein. This feels at times so debilitating that last up to 5-10 minutes

It could be low magnesium or something like beginning Parkinson's. I, too, get theses spasms. One can't return to bed, for fear it will start again. Look up both low magnesium & Parkinson's on the Internet!

it's been so long now with these spasms. I can no longer drive myself anywhere, the spasms come as soon as I put pressure on the gas or brakes. I am terrified daily worried when he next one will come, will I be walking across the street and get hit by a car because I can't run? I weigh 142 lbs., otherwise good health except the spasms in the inner thigh. I have been to all sorts of doctors none can figure it out they think it's all in my head. The last time I had one which was 3 days ago I recorded how my inner thigh becomes distorted and sent it to my neurologist and he had his assistant reply to continue the electrolyte regimen and it should go away. I have been on the regimen and numerous other regimens for the past 8 years with no relief. I am to the point where I want both my legs amputated. I don't want to try anymore drugs or regimes am told what I have I am DONE! NO DOCTOR OUT THERE HAS A CLUE WHAT IT IS GOD HELP US THOSE OF US WITH THIS HORRIBLE THING. I hate when people compare it to a Charlie horse or other leg spasms...I've had all of those and if I can trade having all of those with the inner thigh one I'd take those day and night in exchange for one inner thigh spasm a day. I HAVE TRIED IT ALL.. Electric muscle stimulators make them come on and stay longer, tried quinine, tried "stop Leg and foot cramp" Potassium tablets, Hard Drugs prescribed do not work, Ibuprophen makes them come more frequent, I drink water all day, tried Hylands Leg Cramps tablets, tied it all..nothing works. Maybe because no one knows what it is. Doctors can't help, homeopathic solutions do not work. what we need is a real diagnosis of what this disease is.

I do feel your pain! I too have discussed this with doctors and no diagnosis. You are correct you can't compare inner thigh spasms to calf charlie horses! I have witness my inner thigh muscle actually torquing! Some have gotten relief with pickle juice. I have not tried this suggestion. Just curious I'm deficient in Vit "D" wondering if you are too and if their is a correlation.

Drink pickle juice. It works for muscle spasms. They have pickle shots near the gatoride at the grocery store.

I stopped taking Ibphophen a year ago and my inner thigh muscle spasms went away, after 10 years of taking them and 10 years of severe pain. Tried everthing else, but never thought about stopping the ibuprofen. This is what helped me. It's so great nto being afraid to go to sleep anymore.
