me too - the inner thigh, top of my foot, front of my ankle, sometimes even my oblique or ab rectus muscle will cramp at night - but usually it's my toes - the toe cramps happen any time day or night, during exercise, driving, putting on my shoes in the morning. The toe cramps started when I was about 9 yrs old. I'm 57. I started taking 3 Slo-Mag and a Vit K2 every night about a month ago. Night cramps have been fairly rare since. It's not perfect, I keep extra strength Tiger Balm next to my bed - I rub it into the cramp. Don't know it actually works or just gives me something to do while I wait for the cramp to go away.

What the gentleman said is true very true. This happens to me as well. The inner upper thigh muscle is extremely and I mean extremely painful. I am screaming into a pillow because my neighbors would think I am being attacked. It is so painful that it causes me to cry as well. It last for at least 30 minutes (at least it feels as though it is 30 minute) but bottom line, the gentlemen above is telling the truth.

Reading your post was exactly what I went through. I avoid bar stools at all costs because they are a trigger. I also found that if I don't get enough sleep, they are guaranteed to happen. I had one a few weeks ago and my son came flying into the room. He thought I was exaggerating, but the profuse sweating and dizziness proved otherwise. I have found that 8 ounces of V-8, 1/2 cup of pickle juice, and about a quart of ice water helps to reduce the amount of time that I suffer. When I have them I usually need to relieve myself but can't until I drink all of the above. So, in addition my bladder feels like it is going to explode. I have stage 2 kidney disease, Hashimoto's (low thyroid), and cauda equine syndrome. My doctor said all of these put me at high risk for cramps. He also said that they are most probably due to a malabsorption problem, along with the fact that I only have a 13% iron saturation which means my body is not using my iron efficiently. I also run at the minimum when it comes to electrolytes such as chloride, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. The last time I had one, I ended up with my 5 grandchildren, 3 and under, watching me intently. They were fascinated by my screams of agony. LOL I am taking a magnesium supplement but it is doing nothing to help. Mine are worse and more frequent when my feet are not swollen. The doctors tell me there is nothing they can do for them.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I am an 80 year old woman, in pretty good health and I just had a bout with the muscle spasm and accompanying it was a cold sweat. I haven't had the spasms often maybe a couple in the past but the cold sweat was something new. Instead of "ending it" like one sufferer, I was praying to God to relieve it, it felt like it would break my leg. I got up and walked because I was afraid to sit down. I drank some water, I don't know if that helped but it wasn't long before it finally quit but I was also trying to massage the area. So maybe the combination of walking, massaging and a drink of water helped. Thank God it finally quit. Has anyone else had the cold sweats with it??

Someone in a blog recommended magnesium taurate. Also known as magnesium ditaurate. It is hard to find but can be obtained online and at specialty shops like The Vitamin Shop. I have been taking it for two weeks for these inner thigh cramps which normally occur after a strenuous workout regardless of how much I hydrate. They always happen in the night and wake me up with a vengeance. So far no cramps. Hope it works.

I started taking magnesium taurate and the inner thigh cramps that were striking me in the middle of the night for years stopped. I read a post where a guy experiencing these cramps started using it and found relief. It works for me as well. Two months now and no inner thigh cramps/spasms. No doctor has been able to figure this out for me.
Try it and see if it works for you. Good Luck!

I had an inner thigh muscle spasms and lets be blunt toe always up into chest. It is a deficiency and many things can cause it from disease, nutrition and dehydration. I had them so bad I thought I would have to give up driving. I take magnesium supplements and as long as I take 1 daily the spasms are gone. I thought oh wow I am better and stopping taking them the severe spasms were back. So one a day whether I need it or not.

Thank you for your description of what you suffer when your spasms come on. It describes precisely what I go through. I sleep in a bent leg position on my side and this seems to be what triggers it. I can feel it coming on and within a split second, the spasms have started and you cannot stop them. I beg to die, I pray, I cry, I cannot even stand or I fall to the floor or against the wall. I have not tried the shower or heat but am willing to try anything. I've been reading this forum and now I feel that I'm not alone and really need to speak with my doctor about this.
