That's wonderful that you're exclusively breastfeeding, by the way. Have you considered bottling some of your breastmilk and adding the oatmeal water?

Thank godness! I was so worried about my two month old baby. She hasn't had bowel movement for 10 days!!! My doctor told me to give her 1 oz prune juice per day without dilution. Will that be ok for the little one to have pure prune juice EVERY day??

Maybe after using it for a couple weeks you can take her off of it and see if the problem has been resolved. If not, that's a fairly small amount of the fruit, I'm sure it'll be perfectly fine for regular use.

i don't know. I was breastfeeding my baby and she was pooping fine, but when i started to give her formula and breasmilk thats when she started to be constipated. It took her 6 days to poop for the first time, she was fine. Then again, 6 days, i called nursing line and they told me to give her glyserin suppository. It didn't work, i called them again and the nurse told me that they do not suggest to do a suppository at least when the baby is 6 months old. She told me to put apple juice into formula, i put 1 oz of juice with 2 oz of formula, my baby pooped 2 hours later, and i had to change 2 diapers :-) Now, my baby is pooping every other day.

I am a mother of a 2month old who has infrequent bowel movements. It bothered me so I was giving him a glycerine suppository everyday. Now I think that I have done more harm then good. I have stopped giving him suppositories because I know that he has to learn. He passes gas just fine, but no poo. Right now we are 48hours without a poo. I strictly breastfeed. I see that some people have waited 8 DAYS!! WOW! He is happy for the most part unless he is sleepy...smiling, cooing and all. At what point should I be worried. I do remember going through this with my older son...but I never gave him a suppository. He poos just fine now at 17 months.

my daughters going to be 4 weeks old on the 16th of this month, and shes been going through the same thing, shes only had 3 bm's in the past 2 1/2 weeks. It scares me because shes so tiny, and my son, who is 2 now, was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis when he was 2 1/2 weeks old. I read online that it can be passed through genetics and there is a possibility that my daughter has it as well. they are both going to the same doctor and hes the one who diagnosed my son, but he doesnt think that anythings wrong. he just tells me to give her prune juice, but with that theres a chance that her body could become dependent on it. Im very worried. her last 2 have been hard and almost like a black color.

Well, I think it's safe to say I have ya'll beat. My 5 mo old breastfed daughter has gone 19 days w/o a BM. Both her Pediatricians, their nurses, and my reg. Dr. don't seem to be too concerned. She went 17 days w/o a BM around 3 mos & I was panicked beyond belief! She has never been 'normal' and only 'goes' twice a month on average. That can't be normal, but no one seems to worried about it. She spits up a LOT but a barium x-ray swallow study was done to rule out Pylorics and her belly isn't distended. She cries a lot at night but smiles during the day (of course, she's an angel at every Dr appt!). She does seem to have a lot of gastric distress and pulls her legs up, and a chiropractor diagnosed her w/ ileocecal valve syndrome & the first time I took her there, she pooped within a few hrs of the adjustment, but no real reaction since. I have radically changed my diet to exclude all dairy & gassy veggies & cut way down on sugar. We even went to formula for a few feeds, but she threw those up too. ?????

My Daughter was the same way she would go even longer and when it hit ten days she would scream in pain. She was fine when I breast fed but once I switched to formula at 2 months the contipation started. Our pediatrician told my husband and I to give her baby pear juice, and so we did; she was fine after two-three days poopy diaper every day and happy as could be!! When she would get contipated like again we would give her the juice mixed with water of course and she would go again and be happy again. She is now almost a year and on a normal pooping skedule. :-)) And for her gas we would use Gripe water it helped a little but not as much as the once a day 4 onces of half pear juice half water!!

Diluted Prune juice (diluted with distilled water). NO APPLE juice. Give a little bit everyday. Works like a charm! If you aren't comfortable with prune juice, then lots of water!

Something else you can do to try and stimulate your baby to poop is take a rectal temperature. Not only will you get their temp, but often it stimulates the bowels just enough to get them to poop.

I know your post is old, but what ended up happening when you went to the GI specialist for your little one? My baby's situation seems very similar to yours.
