My Boyfriend quit methadone cold turkey

I found this web site because I was looking for a site with information regarding how bad withdrawls are while quitting via the reduction method. This is the method that i choose when i decided i needed to stop my 100-a-day 3mg Codeine Phos tablet addiction!! As you can imagine I was sh**ting myself as to how bad the withdrawls would be as i'm begining to bring my ordeal to an end (and that it was)!! I have now found that my withdrawls will not be so bad and my biggest problem with the method i choose is the time i've invested!! But thanks to my fantastic family and my great friends who i love all even more after the past 4 years of hell, i'm nearly at the end of my journey!! I just wanted to write and tell all the folks who have wrote into this forum that i have to give them credit they are amazingly strong people who have achived a great deal and should be proud of what they have done!! I have found the past year tough but i would take that over what these people must have gone through!! The pain must be incredible but i bet the feeling at then end is even better if not physical, it will be mentally!! So well done and keep clean, and on my final note, i was given a very good bit of advice by the Doctor who reffered my to my rehab clinic, 'if you become addicted once then chalk that down as a mistake, but if you become addicted again after fighting to become clean, then you're an id**t'!! GOOD LUCK AND MY LOVE TO ALL MY FELLOW ADDICTION FIGHTERS!!
PS I loved the little prayer someone sent in 'and as i walk through the shadow in the valley of Methadone'!! I'm not religious much at all, i never go to church unless it's a wedding, chritianing, of funeral but i must say (and I know it might sound mad) god really helped me through the hard time's!! He's a dam good listener!!

I have a comment for those of you considering rapid detox. My friend did the rapid detox for heroin. When he got home from the detox he was sick as a dog for 1 week after so dont think you are fine right after. They put that pellet under his skin that stops opiates from working. I dont know what he was thinking but he was found dead with a needle hanging out of his arm. My theory is that he just kept shooting heroin trying to get high and his heart stopped. The thing about that rapid detox that people need to remember that they are still an addict! I dont believe that pellet is a good thing as it cost my friend his life!

I got knocked of 90ml of methadone and its the worst withdrawal syndrome ever.I remember it only too well.I live in scotland and I got knocked off when princess diana died.I remember sitting watching her funeral on tv and my mum thought I was crying cause the tears were flying down my face.I was'nt it was the withdrawals.Ive come off heroin and subutex cold turkey and its a walk in the park compared to that evil methadone.To the guy thats withdrawing from it.You should just stay with it as after about 6wks it starts to get better.If you could get a hold of some suboxone you could take 2mg every few days for 7 to 10 days just to ride the symptoms out as its a totally different drug.Dont listen to people who tell you not to take things.You're suffering man,and you're only using something on a very short term basis to help.I wish suboxone was available here when I was coming off methadone.I would have taken it in two seconds.Good luck.

My boyfriend has been using this drug for atleast four years. He has been taken down to 10 mg a day. He lost his job last month so there went the insurance and the methadone. He has been off of it for five days and has not eaten in two. I am scared because I have read on many sites that the withdrawls can be deadly and I have no idea what to watch for. I think that he was on a low enough dose to stop use but it is hard to tell. This is the worst drug that I have ever encountered and I pray for everyone who comes in contact with it. It can be beat. The bad part is, the withdrawls last so long, it feels as if it will never end. From what I've read, it will if you stick with it. If you go back and take just alittle to ease the pain, it can start the whole process over again.

First off, from what ive heard over the last 5 long years on methadone is that he has got to be right around the corner! im at 90 mg and my clinic says the quickest i can get down to zero would be over a year! Its ruining my life,just being a person on methadone, it helps me get by and not use but i got up to 160mg at first and that was stupid. Now,unless im convinced other wise, am going back on 60mg of oc a day for a month and am planning on kicking the oc when all that horrible methadone is out of my system. My hope is to be clean within 2 months instead of a year. This is my first post about anything, so im hoping that someone will say that its not a horrible idea. it will be same price as mdone when gas and dose $ is calculated and ive kicked oc's in a few days. I have to work and cant afoord to be out of it for a month or so especially with a kid.

I'll tell you right now....I did the same thing and after 43 days I couldn't take it anymore. and that was the biggest mistake I ever made, considering victory was right around the corner.
sleep is the most important thing.and going 43 days without it can make you go insaine!
My suggestion is: if you cant find a doctor to give you any, then try scoring some Xannax-Clonipin. that should get your hubby over the hump.
after a month and a half the only problem he should be having now is sleeping /ressl

Hi I take methadone for 5 years and was drink 20 mil. 3 month ago I stop cold turkey and styl feel like sh*t. I styl cant sleep,have bone pain,diarrhoea and feel  tired . Is hard, bat i can do it .Hope your boyfriend dont go back .I hate methadone .God luck to you all.

I might be going to jail and I'm on 135mg and I think I might literally die can that actually happen?

hey this is my first day off it and im very afraid i am 19 years old and i know what the withdrawls are like can you please help me with this question can a person die going trough md withdrawls >>>>i scared :(

I just started the meth clinic about three months ago and today3-6-12 they would not dose me or 30 day me because 11/16/12 I filled a script for benzos so I have to cold turkey from this point on, but iv only been going for three months and my dose is at 85mg,does anybody know what I should do??Or is it going to be really bad and last long?? ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

thats a really good idea cuz most of the withdrawals is in our head

thats how i feel rght now, stopped taking it 2 days ago but cuz my doc didnt give it to me. I hate it i have a cold turkey and i dont know what to do. nothing helps i did mally and did vicodin and nothing but 7 shots of vodka. I dont feel like drinking either but I need to force myself stay drunk i guess. wanna get off of it i been ot methadone for a year and im sick of waking up and taking a drug. I say to myself that nobody can control and I try to stay out of it.Its hard i hope its gona work for me the biggest mistake of my like is methadone. My withdraws from dope were far from the withrawls I have from this sh*t.

what happened with ur boyfriend? curious cuz im on my 2nd day off of 10 mg and idk if ill be able to go through it

Good luck, I have found myself that methadone is naaaasstyy. My pain doctor put me on 40 mg a day. I got 10 mg tabs 4x a day. Some moran wrote me 90 three x a day. Now I have to go 8 days with out it. Im not going back on it either. My mom gave me 60 mg morphine it helps. But I'm still furious.

i just took my last dose 28 hours ago... i heard Kratom is a good way to help with the withdrawls!!! look into it!
