In 2005, my bowel stopped like a switch. Colonoscopy was negative, even forwent anesthesia so as to see. All labs book value normal. No gluten allergy. Diagnosis IBS. There currently is no treatment protocols. I changed my diet to Anti-Lectin. Controversy surrounds it, but took of parts eliminating all beans, black eyed peas, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. I stay within the Kruciferous vegetables. I eat meat, chicken, fish, lamb, eggs, cheese, butter, bread, cookies, chocolate, but no soft drinks, no fast foods, pork and avoid HFC and any the hidden names such as invert sugar, corn syrup and a few others I can not remember, no outright milk or cream, coffee hand poured, Oolong tea, sour tea, (Hibiscus tea). I utilize Ghee or clarified butter. Sweet potatoes are my mainstay, but do rice, noodles and Idaho potatoes. No junk foods save for a quality potato chip, crackers. No juices except cranberry and juices are warm not cold. I drink 8 ounces water 1 hour before meals and 2 glasses 8 oz water when I awaken. I use Smooth Move Tea, (Brand Name), label should read Original Senna. One can drink whole cup or take goodly gulp and save covered in refrigerator for week. The tea does not produce a violent effect. I use also Olive oil, organic virgin either a goodly gulp or 1/2 cup. Hold one’s nose so as not to taste it. I also do drink with my meals. It took me 6 years to get my bowels back to the point my bowel movements were normal size, shape and tapered end, essentially when I wiped there was no fecal stain on paper. I got 10 years of bliss. I am a retired RPN/Clincal Specialist. Currently I am with Hashimote’s disease; one’s immune system attacks the thyroid the body’s master gland; first stage hyperthyroidism; I experienced extreme weight, frequent daily bowel movements, excessive urination, rapid heart rate, chest pressure, extreme insomnia and hypertension which I already have and is medication resistant. Six months later, current my thyroid stimulating hormone return to normal, but now I am hypothyroid with slow metabolism, fatigue, heart rate is slow and and even bradycardic. I also should be gaining weight but am loosing. My bowels have not evacuated sufficiently going on 52 days. I pass only raisins, grapes and walnut sized stools and an occasional cecothroph, (Spelling? a stool that takes the form of all the kibbles and bits for lack of term). Essentially I am back to square one but different than in 2005. I do partake of the Ayurvedic medicines and their formats. I also partake of organic honey, Braggs vinegar, ginger tea fresh from root, onions, spices, (Turmeric, curries,), fresh garlic, 8 ounces warm water, level teaspoon sea salt, half sour lemon and drink weekly, This response does not allow me to go back and correct grammar. I trust this will help or allow you to dabbled in areas that may afford you some relief. As I said I sit here writing this trying to figure it all over again. Web searches for IBS can be helpful, but are trial and error.

I’ve fought as hard as I could for 4 years for help where I was living, and gaslighting was all I received.

REMEDY: Major sacrifices.
Do whatever it takes to relocate to a progressive city with a large population and a university medical center. In a state that expanded their Medicaid, if you’d be low income.
From Massachusetts and New York, down to Delaware.. all those states in between. Those states are your best bet.
Live in a van if you have to.

On the East Coast, that is.
West Coast: Washington State is best.

I had a problem where I couldn't go. Previous constipation as a child...but this was different. The inability to go was incredible; I went for 13 days and no BM. Felt sick, nauseous like I was poisoned. Stomach was so distended, I looked pregnant. I did Fleets enemas, constipation meds, drank lots of water - but nothing would come out. (In the meantime, I was going to a Gastro doc who would give me directions to take "heavy duty constipation meds by mouth, and enemas for the rectum". I swallowed radioactive beads to see how they went through my system. Guess what? They never came out! The doc said, "they never came out" (no kidding).

Eventually...3 years of this and 6 gastro docs later, one doctor sent me to Johns Hopkins hospital for "motility studies". They inserted "balloons" in my rectum, blew them up, and followed them as my colon reacted to them. They measured that every other inch of my colon worked...that meant the inches before the "dead" parts, needed to push the stool through the dead part. Wasn't happening - throughout my whole colon.

So, they sent me home and said I probably would need a colectomy surgery. I was only 30 and it was looking like I would need a "bag". They gave me some drugs not yet on the market...but they didn't work well. So, I had to live off of hot water bottle enemas (like a quart of water or more) in order to try to flush out my colon - it did help, but I had to do it every couple of days. THEN....the sad news.

Gastro doc had me get (yet another) barium enema x-ray. Well, they put all that liquid in me, and nothing came out - not even the water! They did determine that an area of colon was "flat" (not working) and said surgery was probably needed. It was toxic to carry around stool.

Big day. I had to go to the hospital for 2 days prior to the surgery to clean me out. When I came back from surgery, the Gastro doc told me that they had to take my whole colon. BUT, my rectum worked....so NO bag. They hooked up my small intestines to a dead portion of my colon, and hooked that to my rectum. IT worked!! No bag. 30 years later and it's still working - no colon, no bag!! The outcome was loose bowels, but not urgent like diarrhea. Took awhile to slow that down, but it did so that I could go every other day. Sorry, this was so long, but thought it may help you understand the 3-year path this took. So, if your symptoms fit - this may be a path your doctor will take you on. (Remember, if your rectum works, you may not need a bag!).

I had a Total Abdominal Colectomy w/ Ileorectal Anastomosis. ALMOST always solves the problem and I keep hearing "this isn't supposed to happen", I am one of the few that it didn't work for. You need to contact a specialist about this procedure to see if it's something you want to consider. The alternative is daily enemas. Hope that helps.

This can be fixed with the same medication used in gallbladder removal. This can happen to people who remove their gallbladder. Also a GI will give you medication to clear your bowels completely and then do a colonoscopy.. One of these options you should do immediately!
