Hello everyone! I wanted to share with you all my experience with my surgery because I went through hell... I don't know why I got unlucky but I have read so many stories of people who only had a few unbearable days as to mine, I have been stuck in a hellish situation this whole time. Im a 20 year old female. I have had tonsillitis so many times my whole life. I also suffer from tonsiloliths (tonsil stones) which caused really bad breath. One day I popped out 12 of those damn things from one tonsil. So I thought it is time to do this. Just get it done and over with I can't take being sick so much anymore and the stupid smelly things everytime I sneeze they get all in my mouth bleck... So yeah here is my story......

Surgery

The day of surgery went well. It was my first time ever going under anesthesia and getting surgery done. I was surprised as to how fast it went. I woke up with a heater on me and multiple blankets before being brought back to my little room. I was there with an IV of fluids in me for a couple hours before I got sent home. Right after I was so thirsty and my mouth was so dry! I tried to drink and almost choked and died. They must have put numbing medecine back there because it went directly up my nose. I could not swallow for a couple hours and was in so much discomfort dealing with this damn desert in my mouth and throat. When I got home i took a little nap but woke up pretty soon. I did not sleep much the day of my surgery and just tried to drink as much water as I could bear. All of a sudden the medecine that was in my body wore off and I was in a whole lot of pain. I took my medecine that they gave me which was Acetaminaphin with Codine because my stomach is very sensitive to medication and I get sick easily so that was all I could take. But to no avail the meds were not working! I took them every 4 hours and they would not work. I tried to eat but could barely get much down. Then I just went to bed.

Day 1 after surgery.

Woke up in pain. A lot of pain. Took my medication didn't work. Of course. Tried to eat and drink and could barely get food down but forced myself to drink water. They gave me one of those patches for nausea on surgery day. I forgot to mention that. But I napped a bit that day. I spent the whole day in pain because my damn medecine would not even take the smallest ammount of pain away.

Day 2 after surgery

This day went the same as last. Medecine not working. Struggling to get a little bit of food in and forcing water down my throat. Later at night my mom and I decided to try a larger dose of my medecine to see if that worked. It didn't. I then threw up twice. Everything that was in my stomach came out. Yay... So we called the doctor and he told us to try alternating with Ibuprofin and tylenol. So my mom went and got me that from the store and talked with the pharmacist to figure out adult dosages because they were both for children. I took off that nausea patch and went to bed.

Day 3 after surgery

I started taking the Ibuprofin and Tylenol. Which thank god!! Actually worked. The Ibuprofin would really help. I had to take 6 teaspoonfuls of it. And bye bye pain hello soft food! Then in 4 hours I would take 3 teaspoonfuls of Tylenol. And it really did nothing. Barely took pain away. So day 3 was alright I was in pain but it was not that bad. But what started was this foul stench coming out of my mouth. I just thought that it was normal and that it was the wounds and that must be what burnt wet flesh smells like. I also took a laxative this day to hopefully get my bowels moving because I knew that the anesthesia would halt that.

Day 4 after surgery

I started to feel much better I was talking more and the meds were finally helping me to not be in pain. I ended up stopping taking the Tylenol and just taking the Ibuprofin every 4 hours. The smell coming from my throat got worse and worse... But I ignored it. I started getting an upset stomach. The Ibuprofin was really sweet and the laxative I took was kicking in. I was able to eat quite a bit this day and was going to the bathroom. I was like hell yeah! I'm already feeling better!

Day 5 after surger

I took a turn for the worst. THIS DAY WAS HELL. I woke up took one last dose of the Ibuprofin and stopped taking it because my stomach was upset. I took it at 9 and it wore off rather quickly. And then.... the worst pain I have ever felt in my life happened. I was in complete and utter agony. Crying and wanting to die. Wishing I never got this done. The pain was mainly on the left side of my throat. We called up my doctor and they told us to come in. We wanted to get a different pain med, something else that was stronger and I didn't have to take so often. Something to help with this damn horrible pain I was in. I could not drink or eat. Not even sips. I would hold in my spit as long as I could until I forced myself to swallow it. He looked in my throat and said that I was healing like I should be and that it looked good. We asked him about the smell that was coming from my mouth that almost killed my mother in the car ride there by the way.. He said that the Ibuprofin had caused my stomach to get upset and I was having silent acid reflux. Thats what that stench was. He had me try to drink a cup of water in his office. He watched me and told me I had two options. 1 to try taking Prevacid to get that acid reflux under control and then try my Codine again because now it should work and it doesn't upset your stomach. Or 2 go to the hospital and stay there overnight for 1 or 2 days. I wanted to go to the hospital but I couldn't due to a situation with my family and insurance and yeah. SO yay for me! Can't do what I should be doing. So did option 1. I got to go home and for hours be in horrible pain waiting to get this Prevacid and try out my codine. So I did. And the codine actually worked this time. It took the pain away enough to eat and to the point where I wouldn't cry. But it wore off really fast. So I just stayed up in pain took it 4 hours later then went right to bed.

Day 6 after surgery

Started taking the medecine every 4 hours and it helped. Still really hard to eat and now It's so hard to drink. The pain is only on my left side. But when I got to drink it feels like my tongue is being ripped away from the wall of my throat and the pain is horrible and sucks really bad. This whole day was pretty much just sitting in pain and attempting to eat, drink. All I did was watch movies.

Day 7 after surgery

Well... The pain is much less I am starting to feel better. Now I feel sick from not eating a lot. But the left side still hurts like hell. When I go to drink water it feels like my tongue is being ripped apart. WHAT IS THAT?!!? Soooo frustrating.... I just want to eat. I'm dreaming of food... oh how badly I want salad and breadsticks from Olive Garden... or Shogun....steak...a burger.... DAMNIT WHY DID I DO THIS! So far.... It's not worth it yet.. YET! I'm sure it will be worth it when the pain is gone.

Day 8 after surgery

Straight back to hell. Woke up nauseous. Tried to eat soup hate half a bowl. Layed around all day feeling sick. Took a shower then the horrible pain came back. Right after took my codine then got extremely sick like I did day 2. Tired to eat to make the nausea go away and it didn't for hours. So hello hospital trip! I ended up in the ER. It was later at night and my wonderful doctor drove all the way there to see me, he got me in so I didn't have to wait 3 hours and told the nurse everything to do for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU WONDERFUL MAN! I was extremely dehydrated. By now I had had 4 cups of water in 3 days. So they gave me fluids. The first bag they gave me an anti-nausea medecine that was wonderful and torodol for pain. That was the most amazing thing ever. Being in pain every second for 7 straight days really takes a toll on you and to have it gone and be able to swallow my own spit was magestic! Then with the second bag of fluids I got a steroid to help with the swelling. It was really strange because when the nurse injected that into my IV it stung strang places of my body for a couple seconds. But I layed there for about 35 minutes untill that bag was done and OMG. I felt so much better. It was a miracle I was laughing and crying because I was so happy. It was about 11 at night now and they discharged me and because I wasn't in pain I had my mother bring me to IHOP so I could get a big soft meal of real food in me while I had the chance. I ate half a huge omelet that was filled with cheese onion ham and sour cream. And a pancake. My stomach has shrunk in size and that is all I could really get down. I usually could eat much more. But then I went home and straight to bed!

Day 9

Had a wonderful night sleep! Woke up at 6 with a weird stinging sensation in the back of the left side of my throat that went away after a couple minutes. Virtually I had no pain. Just a little tenderness!!!! So I went back to bed for a few hours just to catch up with some sleep. How wonderful to not be in horrific pain!!! It's looking good now I'm sure everyday will just keep getting better and better!!! I haven't even needed to take medecine today yet (((((:
