I've had pretty much all of the same sypmtoms that have been posted here. I'll be fine in the morning but as the day goes on I feel a straining type feeling in the back of my neck that extends from the top of my neck to my shoulder. It feels almost like a swelling feeling since it the pain gradually comes and goes. All of my blood work had come out fine, I was initially diagnosed with an overactive thyroid in march, but all have the numbers have normalized sine then. One thing I was told is that my Vitamin D levels are very low. Can that be the reason for this? I'm just looking for answers as we all are, Its frustrating to know and feel that there's is obviously something wrong, but to have doctors telling you everything is fine. I look forward to everybody's feedback

I have the same problem, except mine is diganosed... it is due to high (or low) thyroid levels!

Get the following tests... you may have a benine tumor wrapped around your thyroid. It can be fixed by a simple surgery!

Vitamin D hydroxy

Vitamin D dihydroxy

PH (parathyoid)

Calcium Levels

God Bless!

Hi Deb, that sounds a little strange but have ou seen a neurologist yet? They usually are able to diagnose issues like that instead. I would recommend seeing one if you can. Does that help?

Hi I too have the same pressure in my throat like someone is choking me. I have had it for 5 weeks now. When I wake up in the morning I feel ok and as I do things it gets worse. I have been out of work for 2 weeks because I was feeling dizzy and had nausea. My face and ear were starting to become numb. Since I have been off work my symptoms have decreased but the throat pressure never goes away. I have been to the doctor 3 times in September and no answers. They insist that it is stress related. I was given Zoloft and Xanax prescriptions yesterday wich I have not filled. My pressure switches sides. For a few days it will be on the right then on the left. I can't take this anymore. I had a CBC, CMP and a thyroid check and it was all normal. Has anyone found out anything else? Please post.

I have the same problem from last 6 months

Pressure on chest feeling like marble is stuck in the center of my chest and than it goes all the way up to the front of my neck and when i talking i feel uncortable.

How do i relieve it?

1: Eating lunch/dinner takes the pressure away for few minutes or ease the pressure.
2: sleeping takes away the pressure for few hours.
3: Watching Movie or being busy with family takes away the pressure.

BIGGEST TRIGGER.

1: STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS,

its all about STRESS something is there in our brain which is hitting our neck pressure or nerves its nothing to worry but i hate the PRESSURE!!!!!!!its unfortable but atleast its not life threatning !!!!

SO EVERY ONE out there say THANKS TO GOD YOU ARE ALL PERFECT CARRY ON WITH YOUR LIFE!!!!! :O)

Hi there, I think that what you've covered is very good advice, although I would add that the best way to keep from feeling pressure it not to get upset when you do feel it. That usually just causes it to get worse! What do you think?

healthnfitnessguy: thats right being upset or stress or depress all of them are trigger for me other wise i am all good when i go out with my friends or having good time with family.

I started gettng these feelings after i had stressfull/depress time year ago and after 4-5 months i got these feelings.

to all of you out there do not worry and dont think doctor can relieve your pressure or diagnose you coz its very tricky...but give time to your body to heal or you may want to take anti depressants to prove its depression/stress .

i am glad to hear that many people have the same problem as me. i recently came back from a trip and things started to happen. like one night it felt like there was something stuck in my throat. then it went away. now i have had 3 colds since then and i had this deep cough, my mom thinks i have asthma. then recently it feels like someone is very lightly squeezing my neck but only when i eat. as well as a feeling like i have a lump or phlegm in my throat. and also when im just sitting around or standing or doing anything it starts to feel like my throat is phlegmy or smokey. and it has only been happening around 5. i am having a Dr.s appointment books and i plan to tell her about this hoping that it's nothing serious. i know that my family has had thyroid problems like my grandma and cousin and my mom now thinks that it's a thyroid problem. in the mornings and day time im fine, i wonder what it is. i am happy that i was able to read about everyone else's problems it has made me feel better knowing that it probably is just a thyroid problem even though i know they are a pain to have. but thank you everyone for sharing in wish me luck at the Dr.s and possibly blood tests (im terrified of needles, but if it will help i can take it)

Did you ever get tested for TMJ?

Hi everyone,

So I had similar pain and found a solution that worked well for me... I too went through all kinds of tests, MRI's, X-rays, blood tests, painful electric needle tests... all kinds of doctors. Everything came out negative (no disease/problem found). Finally, a friend recommended I read Dr. John Sarno's Healing Back Pain (don't let the title trick you -- it's about all kinds of chronic pain). It's a fairly short read (180 pages or so), and reading it plus doing the mental exercises it suggested cured me almost completely in about 4 weeks.

I strongly recommend this to people who:

1. have their condition become worse when they're stressed,
2. have gone to all kinds of doctors and had all kinds of test, none of whom knew what was or could possibly be wrong,
3. have symptoms that don't necessarily make a lot of sense (e.g. bilateral pain that started at the same time in both arms), or
4. are open-minded about a "knowledge-based" cure. (No hokey new-age stuff or anything like that, don't worry.)

One way to think about this is that we all generally accept that ulcers can be caused by stress. Why not other types of chronic conditions, too? If the point of an ulcer from stress is distracting us from the stress, and we know "ulcers can be from stress," then an ulcer fails at its purpose. If the body is going to distract us from our stress (whether caused by family, job, emotional, etc.), it now has to choose something other than an ulcer. For me, it was neck and arm pain. For some friends I have who've been cured by this it's just in the hands, or just in the back or neck.

If you're skeptical, go read it at Barns and Noble or Border's or something before buying it. As someone whose chronic pain faded after reading the book, I strongly recommend trying it. Best decision I've ever made.

Best wishes,
Andy

I, too, have neck tightness/pressure. When it happens, my neck veins enlarge. It seems to happen (mainly) in the shower or when I'm bending over. My primary physician blamed it on my mediport (I had chemotherapy in the past year), then my oncologist disagreed and had me do a stress test. So far, I've come up empty. I had a pneumothorax about a year ago, and noted on the internet that this could cause neck tightness. In light of this my next move is to see my pulmonologist. I hate to keep going to doctors but don't want the symptoms to get out of hand. I don't feel pain but it is very uncomfortable. Someone else likened it to having a hand around your throat but not squeezing hard enough to constrict your swallowing or breathing. Obviously, I don't have any advise for other sufferers, but want to commiserate and get in on any good information that comes from this blog.
