I have pressure radiating up my neck too. Thought it was a block in my arteries becasue the pressure seems to be right on them, but also the ear problems with pain and pressure in my ears and on lthe temple.....I have an iflammatory disease like lupus and am just starting methotrexate, not sure if it will help it or not...docotrs dont know what it is....I had an ultrasound on my thyroid and they found 4 little cysts, but they dont believe this is what's giving me the pressure in my neck, my doctor says the cysts dont give people symptoms...I'm convinced I have a blood clot somewhere lol...but not really funny. I have a low heart rate with chest pain too....I'm a mess, but am stumped at what this pressure is in my neck....I get shortness of breath and fatigue with it too.

Hi,
I have thyroid nodules too and had a biopsy done with no suspicious results. What is wrong with us that doctors can't diagnose??? I get tired all the time too, and have to go to bed with a heating pad on my head mid afternoon to release some of the pressure. Please let me know how you are doing and if your doctors can come up with a diagnosis.

I have the same problem for 10 yrs. now, tightness around my neck either left or right side. I've been seeing my doctor often, they found out that my Thyroid Hormone are too high, might be the reason but not sure at this time. I've been on numerous test until now, still experienced same problem. My doctor gave me thyroid pill called Eltroxin, condition improve a bit. Why don't you see an endocrinologist, you might get help. I'll keep you posted.

I also have tightness in lower next and a lump on the right side extending up to the ear. I believe this lump is swollen lymph nodes and thyroid gland. This is only a guess but the strange thing is that this will happen when I don't eat while hungry. If I don't eat right away a sense of panic takes hold along with the throat swelling. Since this appears to be a link with metabolism and anxiety it points to thyroid. I don't know this for sure and have yet to have tests done but it's amazing so many people are experiencing these symptoms and most of them claim anxiety along with them.

This is an epidemic that either hasn't had it's solution revealed yet or that we're all missing. We really need an answer. If someone has experienced this and found the cause and solution please, for all our sakes, respond.

Hi again!
I do have an endocrinologist (two actually), a neurologist, an oral max doctor, a PCP, an allergist, and an ENT! All they do is pat me on the head, shrug their shoulders, and say "see the neurologist, who then sends me to the ENT, who then sends me to the oral max, and so on...I have done this loop about 3 times and am so fed up with it. I am a highly educated person and just can't understand this. I tell each one exactly what the problem is (and have been hospitalized for 5 days at a time, 3 different occasions! no dxc either.) It took an allergist to dxc the thyroid problem (the endo didn't do the Anti TPO test!). If you find out what is wrong with you could you let me know???They symptoms are so similar to mine, I will return the favor if they come up with anything for me tool Thanks so much. I would love to get back to work (am retired now) but can't due to the pain.

I dont know how far back this thread goes, but look for MrBrian remarks. I have had this going on for about 8 months and I have gotten mine down to about 10% of what it used to be. Most days its barely noticeable. The two things I did was 4 mg Valium twice daily and one cup of Tansy Tea daily. This has helped me very much...

For the last 2 years off and on I've had a strange pressure type feeling in my neck on the right side. No sore throat, no lumps, and not really a pain but more of a pressure. From my shoulder up to my ear. Sometimes I feel this pressure in my ear, and behind my eye too, not always though. The tightness radiates part way down my back too. If I bend my head forward, I can feel it pulling part way down my back. I went to the doctor about a year ago regarding it, and he thought it may just be some tight muscles. He looked down my throat, and felt around and thought it was nothing to worry about. I have a knot in the back of my neck that's hard to massage out too. I also have my desk set up at work with my monitor to my right and for the last 9 years, I've had my head turned to the right to view it. I notice that when I wake up in the morning there is generally no pressure, but as the day goes on it becomes increasingly more prevalent. It's also not there 100% of the time either. I may go an hour or more without any pressure and then I may feel it for 2 hours. No rhyme or reason to it. I've noticed that in the summer it's much less noticeabl I know that sounds silly but it's true. Obviously cancer comes to mind for one thing and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms....

I had the neck/head pressures too. Went to a doctor and was told to do neck exercises (the ones that stretches and relieves the tension around the neck and hence the nerves connected to the jaw, cheeks and brain). I got relieved immediately.

Hi,
Well, I went to 36 sessions with the physical therapist and it didn't help; I have Hashimoto's thyroid and was VERY low with Vitamin D. I am now on thyroid meds, did 3 VitD treatments and still have no relief! The pressure and pain in my neck, up through my ear to my right temple is unbearable. I am now scheduled to have a frontal balloon sinuplasty, but doubt that that will help either; I also pulled the right two back molar (one was abcessed) and that didn't get rid of it! I am retired so no stress in my life...Any other ideas to try?

Hashimoto's is autoimmune...I have an unidentified atuoimmune inflammatory disease....Pain in joints, fatigue, chestpain, pain and preassure going up front of neck....sometimes stabbing feeling right on one of the arteries.....chronic eye inflammation...mouth sores, pain and preassure in both temples at ears.....have just started methotexate and prednisone and symptoms are much better...Very touch to figure ouit what this pain and preassure in neck is ...I also have 4 very small cysts on thyroid which doctor said would not give me the pressure going up neck.....a lot of the posters on this subject, I get the impression are talking about pain and preassure in the rear of the neck,,back area?

hey folks

well after reading through these posts,  i have similar symptoms.    feels like tightness/pressure in the right side of my neck right where my neck meets collar bone...and almost like a pulsing squeeze in my throat just below adams apple.

it comes and goes.

i have also had that pain in my right ear canal that leads from throat to ear.   i just thought it was an infection.

i notice that when the "pulsing" in neck/throat is present, i will be clearing my throat more often but there isnt too much to clear.

i do sometimes get food lodged in my throat (most likely from not chewing enough or eating too fast like breads) so i will chug some water to push it through.

also i tend to breathe in when taking a drink of something (usually water as i drink about 8-9 full glasses a day) and i do choke like it "goes down the wrong tube".

i do sit at a desk for work looking at two monitors as i noticed some people on here mention their work description.

i do have a constant knot in my right trapezius,  it lingers around and i often masssage it.   i sometimes do get bad knots mostly on my right trapezius to the point where i can barely turn my head.

i have had that for the better part of 10yrs.

my right shoulder slouches a bit because of a bit of spine curvature as i suffered a few injuries as a kid playing hockey.   i try to keep good posture to avoid aches but everything seems to be pointing to my right side.

i even get a bit of unconfortableness across my ribs to right shoulder from sternum.  simliar symptoms as costochondritis (inflamation of cartilage where ribs meet sternum)

again, since my right shoulder naturally now droops lower than my left,  perhaps this can contribute as well.

i do suffer from time to time "neck headaches" as i call them where i get head aches at the base of my skull at the back.

as i said,  the pulsing, pressure in throat/neck comes and goes,  i havent gone to see a doc about it yet as i am reading and all what people say in this forum is exactly what i experience.

thanks for listening.(reading)

As for me I am the complete opposite. I sleep just fine, its when I wake up in the morning that it feels like someone slowly turning on a dimmer light switch. Slowly and slowly it comes on and within 1 hour of waking up its basically there and there all day. But at least now for me its to the point where I dont notice it all the time, just some of the time.

I have been suffering from the same symptoms for nearly a year now. My throat feels tight like I am being strangled, (and like I have a lump of food stuck inside). I don't think it feels like reflux but have taken courses of medicine for this as advised by a gastroenterologist. They made no difference to my symptoms, and my symptoms aren't related to food although I have cut out fatty foods, caffeine, chocolate and alcohol because I feel I need to do something. I feel tender over the right carotid artery (which sometimes gets quite hard and pounding), the tenderness continues under my jaw, into the muscles over the angle of my jaw and in front of my ear, up into my right temple. If it is really bad it can make the right side of my head burn and run along the eye socket and even into the roof of my mouth. It can ache into the upper tip of my shoulder blade near my spine and  at the front around the collar bone. I sip cold water but it never really stops it. The feeling in my head is difficult to describe, it is a bit like a vice around the temples, it makes my forehead feel icy cold so that I usually wear a hat even indoors. When these symptoms first began the head pressure was so intense I though I might have a stroke at any time. It can make me feel lightheaded but I have never fallen or feinted.

It steadily builds throughout the day, starting with almost nothing, but by night time I can't read or concentrate on the TV. I have to go to bed early and hope that I will fall asleep quickly. Generally the symptoms ease after relaxing for at least 20-25 minutes, and they are always much better again after a night's sleep. Each day is exactly the same (like groundhog day) and I am stupidly optimistic in the morning and start to really notice it by 11am, then it just continues to build.

I have had lots of tests. Was positive for helico bacter which was eradicated (didn't change symptoms), clear brain mri, clear neck and head coronary angiogram.

Am considering ordering a total body mri (at no small expense) because these symtoms really affect quality of life. I am a housewife with 4 small kids and try to get most of the chores done in the morning.

This is my first contribution to a 'thread'. I have read lots, and trawl the internet as often as I can, but I am pessimistic about finding an answer. If I get to the bottom of it I will let you know.

I often wish I had something more obvious wrong with me, something that a doctor could easily see or would show on a blood test, as when doctor's can't make a diagnosis you start to wonder whether they think you're just 'stressed' and bonkers. My symptoms aren't aggrivated by stress and aren't relieved by de-stressing (just sleep).

An eye ear nose and throat Doc diagnosed this catch in my throat, (around the area of an adams apple if I was a man) and tightness in my neck, as incorrect breathing technique and bad posture. I have mild asthma. Also hormonal changes made the side of my neck (to the back) tight. Another contributing factor was carrying my then large 2 year old on my left side, she was pulling on some neck muscles. I had brain fogginess, fatigue when I had that neck tension.

So I stopped carrying around the baby, worked on my posture, did strengthening neck exercises (pressing my head against my hand to each side, then front and back 5-10 seconds x 3 sets). I also took NSAI's such as Ibuprofen to relieve the PMT tightness and tried both yoga and meditation to correct the breathing. Doc found I was anaemic, so I was put on iron tabs, which really seemed to help all my problems.

I have not had the horrible catch in the neck sensation again, thank God, it felt like I couldn't swallow or talk. (It happened twice when I was out and had just swallowed an icy drink, people were talking to me, I could NOT answer, I was like a gaping goldfish!! It felt like an icy bubble lodged in my neck, but it was a kind of muscular malfunction). Sometimes the tension pain comes back at the side and back of my neck, but I find a huge overall improvement, I can manage it with meditation. If it won't go with that, then Ibuprofen. Massage is good for this too, even self massage in a hot shower.

This might help someone, but get checked out to see if something else is up, like a thyroid or skeletal problem. Mind thyself.
