I have the same problem going on 5 months now. Hip replacement is fine but the numbness and pain in my foot is driving me crazy. Has anyone consider a lawsuit against their doctor? For me it seems like my doctor has no concern about the drop foot at all.

OMG! This sounds like my story except I'm only 30! I feel like my quality if life has been robbed! I'm having terrible sciatic nerve pain among other nerve issues after a revision that was done due to a recalled hip and metal poisoning.. I had muscle and necrotic tissue removed and am positive it did something to my sciatic nerve. I also lifted a shoe due to my 1 1/4 leg kength difference after this revision but I'm miserable!!! To the point where is rather just cut it off! I'm almost 5 months out and still primarily using my walker. This is hell! Did u ever find relief???

I am about 10 months post surgery and I still can not feel my left foot about 75-90% numbness. I have pain in my left calf that is close to unbearable if touched. So from my calf to foot just feels like I need a really good stretch. I recently had a nerve conduction test and MRI which concluded that the sciatic nerve is fine (not impacted or tangled) . I can walk with a limp but cant stand for a long time. I can pull my foot towards me but its very weak when trying to press down like a gas pedal. My step is looking into Walkaid. Has anybody looked into this before?

Hello totally! with you on they doctor issue! they screw up and instead of trying to help a person like i thought they take a oth. for that. Its no wonder folks want to sue them. But like in my case, and i just learned this there is only 2 yr statute of limitations for that stuff at least were i live, explains why my surgeons spooned me along to with in few days of dead line and then would make apt. 6 to 8 wks. and both times i get letters telling me we are not able to see you any more, And HOPe You have a happy Existence! Anyhow i have had two left hips June 07 THR May 2011 TH rev. an same as most folk i to had all those problems rite away, but the swelling after 3 yrs. had pretty well dissipated, unless i tried to bear my weight on leg or walk to far, and its ben 10 yr. now. the numbness aching pins and needles and burning never have given me any kind of break, the pin in my leg that i complain about since day one, That was to fixed in rev. surgery did not get fixed, DR. decided that he did not want to take such a special gift like away,( every time i forget an put my weight on leg and shift back off i see little purple stars and wake up on the floor). after surgery he came and told me that, I was absolutely worst, he tells me before no worries it all be better wen were done! and then dumps that on me. Well this is the first time ever for me to get on a forum what have you, So i hope my venting a bit is acceptable. Wen i read all these post my state depression has gotten worse. they know and have always known that with anterior method that the chances of disturbing those nerves are likely, i have read articles from surgeons that are evidently brighter than the ones most of us got maimed by! say that if this kind of out come happens who ever did work is sloppy and unprofessional, and that if you care about whats at stake for patient risk not worth it.I hope you all have easier time getting the rite help.

I had a replacement 3 month's ago.  Went back to the DR. I was afraid I did some damage to the left hip.  He turned my leg every which way with no pain in the joint area.

Physical thearpist indicated my hips were not aligned correctly.  I had about a 30 degree difference from top dead center.

The Dr. released me and I soon experienced sciatic pain in the L4-L5 area.  My theory is:

1.  I had sciatica before in the right leg.  It was corrected with two decompressions.  I had a spinal cord inplant for sciatica on the right side.

2.  Once my hips were aligned, the sciatica moved over to the left leg.

3.  Looking at my x-rays, I cound see the difference from the first  to the last x-ray.

4.  The canel on the left side was open and no inpingent on the left sciatic nerve.

5.  Over three months and the left leg is killing me.

6.  The left leg was open at the canel.  The canal was adjusted 30 Degrees with the result of impinged sciatica nerve.

7.  Keep in mind that the right side of the L4-L5 disc has already been decompressed twice.

8.  The disc in between these two veterbrate experienced a (flat tire) which resulted in the impingment of the left sciatica nerve.

9.  I believe the only medical treatment is fusion of the L4-L5 veterbrate.  WHY. There is no more disc to decompress.  I believe the doctor needs to open up both canals of the sciatica nerves (LEFT and RIGHT) to relieve the inpingment of both nerves.

10.  I am going to talk to the Dr. (different) to discuss the fusion of the veterbrate, with the stipulation that both canals be opened enough to relieve the inpingment before he fuses both veterbrate.  I think this is the route I am going to take.

I had a complete right hip replacement April 8, 2014....I have numbness, swelling, extreme pain in my right leg, hip, knees & now even my left leg is hurting me. I feel like at times I am beign zapped by a tazer! I have the pins & needles feeling. I can't stand anything to touch my right leg or groin area in both legs. I can't lay flat with out extreme pain, My Doctor (the orhtopedic surgeon) has run every test known to man & has drawn blood several times....checking for clots & infection, Those tests came back negative. I am depressed, cry often, and feel like a complete invalid. I am worse now than before my surgery, My Doctor is referring me to another Orhtopedic Doctor in another town for a second opinion. I feel that I have nerve damage and feel I should see a Neurosurgeon but will be surious to see what the other Doctor has to say.

With all these posts of the same problem - Myself included.
Has anyone consulted a Malpractice Attorney and Sued?
If so , what was the outcome?

I had a hip replacement in 2009 and my foot feels extrememly cold and tight like I have a sock on it. The surgeon says there is no connection to the surgery. It happened immediately after the surgery so I know that it caused it. It does scare me as well

You might look into Benfotiamine which is another type of B vitamin. It helps me a bit.
