I had total hip replacement in November. It is 6 months since the surgery and I am mostly still on a cane, It seems a nerve was clipped or damaged during the surgery. I walk like Charlie Chaplin without the cane. I am going to PT and working on it at home. I am very depressed. Will I ever walk normally again?

I am on the same boat. I was left with my leg 1.5 inches longer after THR 2004 The saddest part is that in front of my daughter in the recovery room. The doctor that performed the surgery said, your left leg is longer than the other," you will bet accustomed to it" two years after the surgery I started feeling numbness on my extremities that has generalized all over my body-Polyneuropathy. Doctors including Neurologists look the other way. I have tried to get Heacy Metal poisoning test. They only have checked for Arsenic,Mercury and Lead. When I mention the Hip replacement they do not want to hear. I am getting worst as days pass. My body do not tolerate pain medication due to Gastrointestinal issues ( Bleeding ).
It is 2015. and i am slowly dying and no one listen. I am 75 years old. Expendable for the system that wee live in.

Hello , my mother has a same issue . She has a burning pain in her foot , it's been 6 weeks after surgery . There is a little improve but the pain is frustrating . She's doing exersixes 5 times per day , every day swimming and physiotherapy and massage . After hip replacement she never felt pain in that part . The only problem is foot drop and a lot of burning pain , which is bothering her 24/7 and getting worse by night. Please share with us your results , if the pain is gone ? Have you been doing any exercise , was it helpful , and what you can recommend to relief the pain ? Hope to hear back any feedback soon , thanks .

Yes, by all means an acupuncturist instantly took my pain away!! It is costly but worth every penny. There were times when I could NOT walk and just within 4-5 mins - pain free. It's like a miracle. Marci, Seattle

I just had a hio replacement on my right side in october. Everything went ok with surgery. No more popping in my hip. But today i just started having a shooting pain in my low back and hip today. It feels like a nerve pain. . After my car accident in 2008 i broke my hip and fractured my hip. It stretched my hip to where i couldnt walk gir almost a year. I couldnt move or feel half of my right and had foot drop and couldn't move my toes. I also started getting swelling really bad they said it was lymphodemia. My foot would go extremely hot and would turn red. It also would go extremely cold to where you could feel it through my shoe. It sounds like it might be your sciatic nerve. I also take Lyrica.

Has your nerve regenerated with relief from drop foot. It has been nine months since my surgery with simular complications. I feel like you, no one seems to have the answers. My life at age 72 is compromised as I still, even with the brace, not able to walk for long distances nor without a limp. I try to stay positive but have been told if it is a compressed nerve I may not ever recover. It has been exhausting with PT, two MRIs and the added expense.
Hope you're doing better as it will give me hope.

I saw your remarks and after hip replacement nine months ago, I have experienced much of the same journey. The hip surgeon wants to deny it is due to surgery but I was fine prior to surgery woke up after surgery with a paralyzed ankle and nerve pain that has been unbearable.
Just wondering if you have recovered. I have had MRI, nerve studies and lots of PT but no good solution to my new disability!
Hope you are better.
