Hello. I would like to find a way to help my only child and I hope someone of us will help me.
My daughter is 7 years now and she was born with a big discoloration on her face. Before it didn’t bother her but now, she is entering puberty and it become psychologically bothersome.
Almost half of her face is very red, although it doesn’t cause any pain or any other symptom.
Doctor told me that this discoloration is called port wine stains.
So, I was wondering what is causing this spots and is there any treatment which could help in removing or disappearing of these spots?

Well, I will honest with you because there is no point in lying when it is about these things- Port-wine stains, also called Nevi Flammeus are harmless but permanent discolorations.
Although this is not quite correct. In past years some laser techniques for removing these discolorations are developed but they are applied only on small portions of skin.
Problem is in fact that there are not caused by some skin problems which could be easily treated but they represent vascular ectasia.
So, problem is in small blood vessels. What you need to do is to contact your dermatologist again, let him evaluate how big really this lesion is and determine could laser be used in this case.
