NiaLip is a controlled release form of nicotinic acid, similar to another prescription medication called Niaspan.
Nicotinic acid is indicated as an adjunct to diet for reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B and triglyceride levels and to increase HDL-C in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and nonfamilial) and mixed dyslipidemia (Frederickson Types IIa and IIb), when the response to an appropriate diet has been inadequate.
It should be perfectly safe for you to take this medication.
