Hi, I had a norplant inserted in 1991 after the birth of twins. It was removed a year later. I am 39 years old now and also have never had another pregnancy. My DX has always been between unexplained infertility or PCOS, changing with each different doctor I visited. Sometimes they said I had PCOS and other times I did not. I am wondering what if anything you were told by your fertility doctor or if you were able to conceive. Thanks for any information.

Hi, I can tell you that in Louisiana where I had my norplant inserted there was a class action suit and the participants did win. I live in TN now and was not informed so I missed being included. You may want to surf the net for information about class action suits in the state you had the procedure done. I am sure that norplant is the reason I have never been able to conceive again. I really hope you are able to get compensation. Good luck.

I got the norplant in 1992 and never had it removed. It hurt to bad putting it in so I did not want to get it removed. I didn't think I would be able to ever have another baby, but 12 years later I did! Another 6 years went by and I had another child.

I'd like to add that I had Norplant put in my arm in 1999 after the birth of my daughter. After a year of insane weight gain and no periods, I had it removed. I've never been on birth control since then (2000). I was in a 10 year relationship, and now in a four year relationship and married. Over the past 14 years with the two different relationships, I have never used birth control, and I've never gotten pregnant. I truly believe I am now infertile, and have always wondered if Norplant is the cause.

Yes it could be caused by the norplant i just got mine taken out after 16 years and was informed by the doctor that they have since done testing on the norplant system and found out that it will work long after the 5 years as long as there is still medication in it it will continue to seep it into your system when they took mine out only half of the medication in it had actually been used up so my advice is yo have it removed i never felt the side effects either but after having it out for only 2 months i have notice i have more energy and feel a whole lot better.

Hello, I am 17 years old now. My mother had Norplant for two years and got pregnant with me. She couldn't get it removed by a doctor for the longest time because so many doctors were afraid that if I was born with disabilities, that my mother would sue. Right now I am in search of finding out if there are other children like me because I'm concerned that I will not be able to conceive. I am sexually active and yes, I'm an id**t, I've had unprotected sex many times and I have still managed to be baby free. I'm truly concerned because my mother got pregnant very easily and I will not. I'm trying to hold off going to a doctor and I would like to hear from other children. Thanks.

This is good to know! Blessings upon blessings. I had the Norplant in 1992 at age 14. It was removed in 1997 at age 19. I have been with my husband since 1999, we been married since 2005, and trying to conceive since 2009. It is 2015 , I am 37, and now contemplating IVF, but my fear is spending thousands of $$$ on extreme measures won't work. Nobody wants to be in debt when a newborn arrives either. My PCP has diagnosed me with PCOS, but I believe the Norplant is the reason, because I have been on Metformin for 2.5 months to trigger ovulation and restart my menstral cycles that have been absent since January 2015. Disappointed.

I believe Norplant made me infertile. I had it put in, in '94 or '95 after the birth of my only child. I removed it roughly around '02 or '03 after divorce. I remarried in '04 and have never again used birth control or gotten pregnant.

When I had mine implanted (1993), after having children (conceived on the pill) I was told that fertility returned to 100% in as little as 24-48hrs after removal. 10yrs later I couldn't find a doctor to remove it under the voucher program, was told by each doctor that if it wasn't causing any discomfort it didn't need removed because it was 100% ineffective at that point. 6yrs of trying to get pregnant later I finally paid a plastic surgeon to remove the rods... Which still contained More Than Half of the medication!! I had one last period (they were very regular for the 16yrs on Norplant) & then NOTHING, it's been 8+ years & still no period, no pregnancy... and without a miracle - too late. :( I am pissed.

I believe it made me not be able to have kids. I gave up the love of my life because I couldn't have kids:( We should be able to do something about this..

I too have never been able to conceive after having Norplant for 5 years. I wonder if we all get together if we could file a lawsuit.

Me too! i have had the Norplant out for 20 years and have never gotten pregnant. I feel like we should all contact a lawyer, sounds like we might have a class-action lawsuit.
