I came down with what I know for certain is bronchitis a few days ago. I have a few bottles of antibiotics in my pantry, and so, not being able to afford a doc visit, researched them to discover which one to take for this particular illness. I settled upon doxycycline, although all of them would have been effective. (I have some zithromax, biaxin, and the abovementioned doxycycline.) I didn't have enough of any of them to complete the round, although I had NEARLY enough of each. I began the doxycycline, and am wondering if I can complete the round with either of the other medications. I only lack one or two days of being able to finish the course. Or, would taking another kind merely cause more problems? Thanks a lot.

Hi Gryphon, I know you probably don't want to hear this since you can't afford to go to the doctor but going with one antibiotic and switching to another is not a good idea, especially because they all have different levels of efficacy and one may work better than another, and also there could be potential drug interactions. I think you'd be better off going with just one full course of treatment. What do you think?
Yes, I suppose you're right. That is what i feared! Oh, well. I guess I'll just tell the doc what I've done and cough up the extra dough. At least I'm feeling quite a bit better after having started the doxycycline. Hopefully they'll give me more of that....
Thanks a lot!

Hi Gryphon, I am so relieved to hear that you are actually going to go to the doctor. I know it's awful because it costs so much and maybe you can work out a payment plan or SOMETHING but you really can't neglect your medical care and it's just awful because you can really make yourself sick. I'm glad to hear that you're going though! Let me know how it goes, okay?
