That's crazy that you mentioned the tearing sensation, because that's exactly what it feels like. Or that of a brush or rug burn when kneeling.

I also have that - only mine started like a ligament over stretching on my heel then the numbness has set in. Now I had numbness on a small portion on the side of that same leg on the knee and it is like nerve pain. WTH!

I have the same symptoms! Just this last week I have sharp fleeting pain when kneeling, squatting, or compressing the right knee, along with numbness 1 to 2 inches below the knee on the outside. Have no injury and no back issues lately. Occasional sharp pains on the outside leg above and below that area also. Just went to the Dr who believes it's Patellofemoral pain syndrome... but after research I believe this does not really describe what's going on. I will start by easing off on kneeling/compressing the knee and see if this helps, along with anti-inflamatories in case it is bursitis as someone here suggested. Will report back and continue to watch this blog with interest! So glad that I am not alone with this - thanks for posting!

I made a posting some years ago on this. I still think it is (in my case, at least) caused by a build-up of uric acid crystals around the knee joint. I have learnt to live with it now, but always try to keep my diet away from items that raise levels of uric acid.... there is much about doing this online. I may be wrong, but I also find my daily swimming exercise helps a little too. I haven't heard of anybody curing this problem yet, so I suspect it is connected to arthritis and ageing.

I'm having treble knee pain on the inside of both my knee one doctor say i need two new knees. I'm not sure because they is no grinding in my knee . I get quite a lot of pain and the skin on the inside of my knees that is causing the pain is very sensitive to clothes touching it or if i try to touch it with my hands to hurts. I'm at a loss as to what is causing it.

I just thought I'd check online and see if anyone else had this very sharp pain when kneeling or even just touching or leaning on the side of the knee....and I have a 2" diameter numb spot where it's a bit swollen and the pain is. Did you ever figure out what causes this?? I plan to go to the physiotherapist and ask next week.

Personally, I was told it was in my back, but I am not having any back pain or problems. It's been a long time now, almost two years? The numbness is all but gone, but I had it a long time. The sharp pains lasted only a few months.

You should definitely go and see a Chiropractor/Physio/Osteopath to help you with that - they can tell you why the symptoms are there and how you can help yourself! If it's in your spine, it is unlikely it will just "go away" without doing anything about it... (I'm a chiropractor)
