I've put on a lot of weight since using the ring and didn't make the connection until recently. I want to remove the ring asap but I was wondering if anyone knew how safe it would be since I've had unprotected sex a week ago. My boyfriend thinks removing the ring now could cause me to become pregnant. Is that true?
I'm so glad to find that weight gain seems to be really common with the nuvaring. I love it, because I don't have to remember to take it, and I had no side-effects...well except the 5-10 pounds I've gained, and cannot seem to lose for the life of me!
I've been on Nuva for 6 months or so. I haven't gained weight but I haven't been able to lose it either. My sister went on it last year and didn't have any weight gain problems. 5 pounds here and there are normal but it has been a challenge trying to lose weight. I don't know if it is the result of the ring or just poor eating/nutritional habits.
ive been on the nuvaring for almost a year and ive went from a size 7 to an 11. ive been taking birth control for about 10 years now and find that the place where i keep my weight is in my stomach and bootie, im getting off it and trying over the counter methods to lose the weight. when i was in college i got off the pill and i lost a lot of weight.
It's been a year since I stopped using NuvaRing, and I have lost 25 pounds. I had never had weight gain issues and while on it there was no amount of exercising that would help me get rid of the weight. I have always been a healthy eater, so it was pretty clear that it was the ring. I feel so much better now! No hormones for me anymore!
I was on Nuva Ring for a while after I had my baby, no weight gain that I noticed but total lack of sex drive, super bloated and terrible headaches close to the time when I had to take it out for renewal...
I got off for 4 months and my sex drive improved drastically and I had to get back on for cramps...but my body totally rejected it and I got sick as in morning sickness sick and terrible headaches...so I had to get off and got my tubes tied. o.O

In October of 2005 I was size 5-6, about 135 lbs, a 36C, and highly active. As a martial artist, I do katas, weapons training, running, swimming, kickboxing, push ups and pullups; working out an average of 6 days a week, generally 1.5-2 hours a day. My diet, which is consistent due to training requirements, is individually tailored and very healthy. I went on the Nuva Ring on 10/28/05. By April of 2006 my weight was up to 146 lbs, and my breasts had jumped from a C cup to a D, all with no drop in activity level or diet (in fact, with summer coming and the weight coming on, I added more workout time and cut ALL sugars, fats, and non-wheat carbs, pork products, and baked goods out of my diet). By November 2006 my weight was up to 161 lbs, my breasts were constantly tender and pushing out of 38D bras. I took myself off the Nuva Ring November 13, 2006. After 16 months, I am finally down to 143 lbs (and still dropping) and back to a 36C. I have a friend who was on the Nuva Ring and put on 35 lbs in 6 months. Several posters have said that as long as you exercise and eat properly you shouldn't gain much weight on the ring, but I, for one, found this theory to be completely false. If you didn't gain much weight on the ring, that's great for you, but if you are on the ring and have gained substantial weight already, I recommend you obtain a different form of birth control, and then cease using it immediately. Even for those of us on strict diets and training regimens, the weight is a lot more difficult to take off once it is on. But don't give up, find a weight loss support program, like weight watchers or a certified nutritionist, and join an activity, such as as martial arts/self-defense (which is great for women no matter what their size), group aerobics, yoga, running, or even just walking.
Good luck ladies.

I have been on the nuva ring for over two years for the first year I seemed to lose all my baby weight with no problem then last october I started gaining weight faast ??? I have not changed my eating habits and I work out like crazy. I think its the ring but can't be certain
I agree i have been on the NR for 7 months and i have gained 12 -15 pounds. I fluctuate 5 pounds between workout days. example I work out monday through friday sometimes sat.. if i miss the whole week end I am gauanteed a three pound weight gain.
I have been on the ring for over a year now and gained almost 30 pounds. I went from a size 4 to a size 10 with no diet changes and added exercise. I work out more now then I ever had and still keep gaining. Not to mention the complete loss of sex drive.
I stopped the ring last month and already my pants are getting looser.

I am 21 years old and have been using the ring for about a year now. I have found pros and cons. The pros: ease of use, convenience, and more stable emotions. Cons: serious weight gain in the stomach and hips, odd/unusual cramping in lower abdomen, extremely low libido, and infections. I have never gained this much weight before in my life and I live a healthy lifestyle, focusing on weight training and cardio four-five times a week. It was the weirdest thing, gaining weight like this. After reading these posts, I am convinced my negative issues must be caused by this stupid nuvaring. I plan on taking it out tomorrow and will check back in after a few months to tell whether the bad side effects have gone.

I have been on the Nuvaring for almost 5 years. I have gained a total of 15 pounds. I thought the gradual weight gain was from stress and not taking care of myself the way I should, and it could be. But the problem I have found over the last 2 years is that I cannot lose any weight or inches, no matter how healthy I eat and how much excercise I get. I have also had night sweats since about 6 months after I started using the ring. I thought it was from aging (I will be 39 in a week). Has anyone else had the nightsweats since they started using the ring. I use to get them a couple of days out of a year from my early 20's on, but they got more often and lasted more days after I began using the ring. I love the ring because it didn't make me sick liek the bc pill and I only had to think about it 1x per month, but the longer I am on it and the more I read, I think it's time to change.
I am sooooo done with this thing. I have used Nuvaring a couple of different times now. Each time I used it for a few months and then just quit for whatever reason. So my issue, is the weight thing. I've been on Nuvaring again for the last 3 months. I have gained 5-7 lbs that I absolutely cannot get rid of! I am very self conscious of my body and weight. When I'm not on Nuvaring, I fluctuate from 113-115 and if I do happen to gain a few lbs, I can lose weight fairly easily. So right now I'm steady at 120. I am soooo irritated and frustrated because I eat well and excercise and this extra weight will not go away! I'm 5'4''and 5 lbs for me, is a huge difference. Looking back at the other times I used Nuvaring, I was around the same weight or more and when I got off it, the weight dropped off. So needless to say, I am going to get rid of this thing asap. I told my husband that I thought the weight gain was from the ring and he thought I was being silly, of course he'd say that, he likes the extra booty, but I can't stand feeling all jiggly. Anyways, Yeah Nuvaring is convenient and I've never really had a period on it, but....that's the only good thing about for me.
sorry this is not a more organized paragraph, I'm just soooo excited that I'm not imagining the weight gain connection with Nuvaring.

Oh my gosh! So I have been using the nuvaring for 4 months now and I have gained 6 pounds. I havent related it to the ring until reading this forum. I havent changed my diet and I have really been struggling for the last month to get the weight off... eating healthy and exercising at least 4 days a week. I feel desperate at this point b/c my jeans and work pants are starting to fit pretty snug and I'm scared I'm only going to get bigger. This will be my last month with the fat ring!
Oh my gosh... the relief I am feeling from reading this post is unbelievable! I am an active 27 year old, solid size 4/6 and I have been rapidly gaining weight since using nuvaring 4 months ago. Everyday I am baffled by this weight gain and I workout more than ever and I am very health conscious... always getting healthy! I am really upset by this weight gain b/c I am only getting bigger at this point and I dont feel comfortable in my clothes. I have NEVER gained weight like this and I will never be inserting the fat ring again!
Thank you all so much for the feedback. Sadly it's summer and I feel large in my swimsuit.
