Hi, I am 33 years old and my baby has just been born, 6 months old. Since I got her relatively late, I admit that I am a bit overprotective. So, can that cause separation anxiety in a child? I have heard that it might be a difficult period for both parent and babies, so I would like to be prepared as much as possible. What can you tell me about separation anxiety in children?
I can tell you that you have nothing to worry about it. Separation anxiety is something that usually begins at about 8th month of baby’s life and its longevity depends on the several factors. Over protection might prolong it but not indefinitely. Anyway, this is a quite normal reaction and a part of the growing phase. Some babies do not feel it at all, but some experience difficulties. But do not worry, it will pass.
