Hiya all, I just recently experienced what turned out to be a Ruptured Ovarian Cyst in my left ovary. It was 3.5cm and it has been nearly 3 weeks since it ruptured. I went to the ER and had a pelvic exam, ultrasound and bloodwork they deduced that I had a Ruptured Ovarian Cyst and that the swelling was from blood that got into my abdomen. They are not entirely positive whether or not it is an Endometrioma, but I will know when I do my follow up in a few weeks.
I was wondering though, I have been getting quit sharp stabbing pains in my abdomen about 1 - 3 times a day for about 5 days to a week. I think it seems to be when I may be experiencing gas or maybe my bowel is having a movement. Is this normal?? Sometimes there is just some pain on the left side too but I cant tell if its too much?? Has this ever happened to anyone?
Please help! Thanks.

i have the same problem, im 20 and was sent to the ER bu my Dr. thinking that it was appendicitis being that the cyst was on right side and in teh same region as the appendix would be... I had 2 ct scans, blood work and the constant proding of the abdomen, the ER physican finally said that i had fluids in pelvis and a ruptured cyst, but im having similar pains but there starting to get stabbing too.. they didnt tell me that i needed to make a follow up visit with any doctors and my parent knows and im not sexual active.... but its constnat pain and sometimes stronger then other times.
Hey, I had the same happen only on my right ovary. I really thought it was just a bad cycle and didn't wan't to be whiny about menstrual cramps. Though I did wonder why I needed to retire to bed so often. Am I a hypochondriac?? Weeeeeeell it turns out I am NOT. Six nights ago I was sitting at my desk when a searing pain shot through my right abdomen as if something was twisting. I nearly buckled forward. Afterward, my period began. First verrrry light and then extremely heavy for two days. The pain was enough reason for me to take a trip to the ER. That and my mother's voice in the reciever. There they gave me an internal and external ultrasound, blood work, and after 6 hours concluded that I had a ruptured cyst. I was sent home with pain killer and told to follow up with my doctor and gyn. Trouble is, I've just moved here. I haven't a gyn yet. I had told them that I felt nauseous and was always tired. To the point where sitting in a chair became laying, then retiring to bed. I now worry because I've been sleeping 12 or more hours a night which still leaves me exhausted. I'm trying to stay hydrated but its become difficult with the challenging nausea. My hands tremble and Ive been lightheaded and dizzy. I didnt tell anyone else but yesterday at work I looked both ways and nearly blacked out. My hand reached forward and touched the wall, so I was able to steady myself. Lucky that. Seems I'll be back in the ER before next week considering I'm also anemic and epileptic. The ER didnt give me much information, just a sheet of possible types of cysts and pain meds. I'm not so crazy about pain meds seeing as how I can handle pain and would rather notice a crucial pain. such is important, no?
I've also gotten severe headaches. Feels more like a pressure. And when I blow my nose, 80% of the time it's covered in spatted blood.
I was told they go away on their own most times, sooo I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal or severe (having this being my first and hopefully last). Either way I'll be heading back to ER. No insurance. Gotta doo whatcha gotta doo. Nice to hear other opinions, although I'm sorry others are sharing such a painful experience.
Jazirae: I hear it's normal to experience pain in the aftermath. Just make sure youre not fainting, vomiting. I hear those are signs of something worse. Good luck to everyone.
Thanks for readin'. :-)
Here is what I would do in your situation. 1. Get insurance. Now there is Obamacare and they can't charge you a higher premium because of your preexisting conditions, and if you don't anticipate having a lot of income in 2014, your premium will be highly subsidized and they will also make your deductibles/out of pocket expenses a lot lower. You might be surprised at how affordable it is--I was. Go to www.healthcare.gov and sign up! It's not complicated. Call their 800 number if you have a problem with the website and they will solve all your problems. They did for me. You can also get a navigator in your area to help you, but I didn't need to do this, since the people at the 800 number were so helpful. Also: if you are in state where there has been Medicaid expansion, you may now qualify for Medicaid, even if you are single and have no children. I think the healthcare.gov site/800 number can help you figure that out too. 2. Find an internist and a gynecologist in your area. 3. Make an appointment with both of them. 4. Then go. The ER doctors are not going to be able to address your problems. And the feedback you get from this post is not going to help much either, at least not compared to a good doctor. Even if you get answers from people on this site, you are not going to be able to treat yourself if the underlying problem is a serious one. The sooner you get insurance and some real medical care with follow-up, the better off you will be.
Did it go away?
I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me over a year ago - after being sent to hospital for suspected appendicitis when I went to my gp with severe abdominal pain I was put through all these tests then no referral or results were given to me. after going back to the doctors several times and not getting taken seriously or any answers / results, (they said I possibly had a burst cyst but no-one explained what that meant or why that happened to me) so I gave up and left it for almost a year before the pain came back and i couldn't ignore it, by then i knew about endometriosis as my mum had it so told the doctors outright I thought i might as I had pain (severe abdominal and back much worse during my period, and a seemingly weaker immune system) I was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound and they found endometrium cysts in my ovaries, there is no cure but it it is better to know, if doctors dont give you answers or take you seriously and pass it off as just bad periods try to get a second opinion it's worth it to find out if you have something you might need treatment (or even surgery) for don't stop asking and trying, educate yourself about these conditions and the symptoms there is alot of infornation online and so many stories from other women who have had similar experiences and go to your doctor armed with information because so many women have years of misdiagnosis with this sort of thing, don't be embarrassed to complain about serious pain just because it is liked to your periods it can be really serious!
It can be hrmful u must visit a gyn. Asap
