Hello, what a neat forum, I came across this Googling for recalls. Just so happens, I've had a mystery issue of my own for several weeks now.
Possible catalyst: I believe the problem started after I did a bit of trail work in the mountains. Some trees had fallen across a trail and I spent one entire afternoon dislodging, moving, and lifting trees; the second day I returned with a hatchet and chopped up a final tree. That's the only rigorous upper body workout I've done this year, to be honest.
My symptoms: When at rest or walking around, there really isn't any pain. But I can't bend over, twist around, or stretch without causing a very intense pain on my left torso, almost spreading around the middle of the torso. I can press on my ribcage without pain, so I figure it's not a fracture or a break. I can inhale deeply if I'm sitting or standing in a normal position. But if I want to bend over, just to put on shoes or pants or socks or pick up anything from the floor, I have to *exhale* all the way.
Once I figured out the exhaling solution, I was suddenly able to sleep better at night, because the pain of moving around would wake me up, I would exhale, then gently change positions on my sleep. I can sleep on my back and carefully on my stomach, with my left side resting on a very soft pillow. If I need to drive the car in reverse, I have to exhale all the way and then I'm free to turn facing the rear of the vehicle to back up.
My only medical history is a bone spur (benign thing) that was growing on my knee in the 90s; I had it removed in 2001 or so, a decade ago, and it has not returned.
I don't know what else to say without questions thrown at me. The pain does not throb, it's merely a very "warm" feeling, but sharp enough that I immediately "snap" back into a normal position if I accidently move awkwardly.
I mountain bike quite a bit (hence the trail story) and this has not affected my biking at all. I can breathe heavily, leaning over the bike, and I'm fine. My only concern is falling, since I need to be able to collapse and be flexible.
I don't see any growth or anything "pressing up" around my ribcage. I'm hoping I pulled or strained something, but beneath my ribcage?! And unfortunately, after two weeks, I don't seem to be "healing".
