Wow, you totally cracked my case! I've noticed this every now and then for the last year...especially after I ate fried noodles with sauerkraut...and a glass of wine! now I know why! It can occur at other times, but it's almost immediate after this particular meal. Mine doesn't hurt, but I notice the tension, and my jaw tends to twinge. I also have grinding issues at night sometimes, are they related?

it could be a liver problem as well...gallbladder/liver imbalance. i gotta admit marijuana naturally has helped me relieve pain quite well while it provides a relaxing effect.. Excedrin, ibuprofen , pain killers and headache relievers or even other natural remedies might actually hurt those organs in the short/long terms . do research.....

Omg!!! I'm not alone! I get this weird cramp/stinging feeling in my jaw- mostly when I drink white wine (which I refuse to give up). Feeling it right now which is why I googled it. I call it my tangy jaw and my friends totally laugh at me when I talk about it because they have no idea what I'm describing. Don't even care if there's no cure, just glad I'm not crazy! Haha

I have this same problem and after researching it I believe you're on to something. I've had this for over 20 yrs. I do have dry mouth. My sister also experiences this and she too has dry mouth. I've heard rinsing with water before you drink alcohol or eat something sweet or acidic can help.

As far as the lemons, they are used to clear salivary stones. 6 months ago my husband and I were on our way to dinner and he kept rubbing one side of his face and complaining about a jaw pain. He said it'd be fine and insisted we go eat. We ordered dinner and before it came out his face started swelling rapidly on the side that hurt. He looked like he had the mumps. It was huge and very uncomfortable for him. He could barely open his mouth. Needless to say we got our food to go and while driving called his doctor. She said it was a stone in his salivary gland and to get it to release he needed to suck on a lemon or something very sour. This would force him to produce more saliva and push the stone out. It worked immediately and within 30-40 mins his swelling was gone.

I also have a puckering pain in my jaw after drinking wine or vodka with cranberry juice.  I am going to try taking vitamin c the next time it occurs.  I have been experimenting with preventing the pain by the way I drink my wine.  The past 2 weeks, I have successfully drank wine without this pain.  ( 3 times without pain) When I drink a glass of wine, I let the wine roll on my tongue to my throat without touching my gums.  I don't let the wine touch the part under my tongue.  So far it has been good. No pain so far. Hope this can help someone else.  I am going to continue to drink my wine this way.  So far up to 4 glasses of wine with no problems. If anyone tries this and it works for you, please let the other sufferers know.

I once had to go to hospital and get cheek drained because of baseball swelling on face because of this. BLocked saliva glands from reaction to cheap wines I supose. Sulfates or that benzo whatever probably contributed. It's weird, i get the jaw soreness when I eat frozen pizza and cheap wine together. It's got to be the c**p preservatives they put in there causing saliva glands to shut . When I open my mouth super wide and stretch my cheeks a bit it relieves pain almost right away. Limes lemons or gum probably help too.

Actually lock jaw, although not severe, is reported to be associated with alcohol consumption. But sometimes I think of something delicious to eat and my glands try to salivate so hard that's it's really similar to what you're talking about. Saliva blockage is the reason for the lock jaw, dehydration. I got this info from "ask the doctor" online.

I get the weird pain along side my jaw (bottom
Of ear towards end of my upper jaw) feels like a pinching nerve and it randomly hurts like especially when I try to swallow or talk or chew. I started noticing it mainly when I drink cheap alcohol drinks (I know it seems weird). Like right this instant I'm having a cranberrita and it's happening. I noticed, which is emberrassing that the more I drink ....(or closer to feeling drunk) the pain goes away. It also happens with wine as well. I can figure out why. I briefly mentioned it to my Dr. And he kinda laughed it off but it's starting to become a real problem where I'm scared to drink alcohol because of the jaw pain.

Most likely it is the tannins.

This happens to me. I don't drink heavily very often, but often usually in the morning after the night out, I notice one side usually the left but sometimes both can be really saw. I would describe it a dull ache pain that hurts more when you try to chew. Seems to die off a day or two after. I don't have any fillings at all. And the pain is right at the back either in the middle of where the sets of teeth separate when I open my mouth or right at the back behind where my lower teeth are.

Yes Narco, both are related. I cannot give you the exact reason on this, but I have been in same situation. And it worsens when I have sinusitis infection during winters.

Low battery cant send a lengthy reply!

Here's my experience in a nutshell.. when i drink sometimes i have sharp shooting pains in my jaw near my lymph nodes (if not my lymph nodes) and the more i drink, it feels like someone is squeezing the c**p out of them and is escrutiatingly painful. What i figured out over the last 15 years of drinking, i cant drink ANY sort of beer or anything which has live yeast. If i eat ANY sort of bread product, i need to wait at least 45 minutes to 2 hours or more before i drink anything. Sour dough bread does the same thing to me only less painful. Some pizzas i cant eat. Some breads i cant eat. Same thing. Pizza and rootbeer same problem. Beer battered fried food same thing. If i wait after eating, i can drink vodka or rum without incident usually but cannot eat for the rest of the night except for meat... only meat... anything that may even potentially have some sort of yeast is a no go. Tonight was my birthday. Went to a mexican food place and they gave me a birthda shot. I felt like i had to drink it and began rithing in pain shortly after. Broke my own rule. Decided to google it and ended up here. Usually the time and inrensity that i feel pain has to do with how much i drink.

Long story short, yeast or gluten and alcohol is almost definitely the cause for me. Wine is ok for me as long as i dont eat, like i mentioned. No alcohol with dinner... ever..... eat or drink but not both. So much for italy or Spain huh?

My 21st bday i had mexican food and bought some beer and various other things and ended up screaming into a pillow in pain for 4 hours and i didnt drink again for5 years until i figured out what i could or couldnt drink and under what conditions. Hope that helps someone... however, i wpuld still like to find a fix to this... id love to sit down with a beer to eat my dinner orhave wine at an Italian restaurant with my meal. ..

Yeast followed by alcohol! Interesting theory. That might fit my pattern. It only happens when I drink after eating, but doesn't happen terribly often. Perhaps that's my missing variable!
