i thought that it was just me out there being labeled as a malingerer, attention seeking, deliberately not eating so that i could look emaciated - all shouted at me by one or another Doctor over the years. My life is a nightmare as i have chronic pancreatitis caused(not by alcohol abuse) by several surgeries for duodenal ulcers, gallbladder ,too many to list. i have been begging family and friends to go with me for euthanesia but was told that that was a selfish thing to do.i DON,T GET IT!! Doctors are meant to help us! i am currently having fentanyl patches plus many other tablets which worked at first but i,m needing more as time goes by. i have read of an operation that could help, removing some of the pancreas that is inflamed. As i am now a pensioner i feel that they are loath to spend money on an operation for an elderly lady. Oh,just a word of advice, don,t at any cost argue or challenge what you are being told or else you are a troublemaker. Keep on taking the pills if they let you!Josie

I need to hear from anyone STAT about their experience with suboxone for chronic pain (mine is lumbar spine damage-related). Also, i want to know about their experience with the latter med. as compared to other effective pain meds such as oxycontin, etc. I have to decide very soon whether to agree to treatment with such. I do not like much of what I have read about suboxone. Other persons' experience with such for extreme pain is most important to know now. Thanks.

It makes no difference if it is long or short acting. A narcotic is a narcotic you will build up a tolerance and you will become dependent on it .What I am hearing you say is I am not an alcoholic I only drink beer.:|

My opiate addiction started when I was put on the Duragesic patches. I have had a 17 year addiction to pain pills. The withdrawal from the patches was the worst sickness I have ever had in my life. It made me feel so bad I wished I had the flu because that would have been better. Unless you are in extreme pain I would never suggest the patches. It was just a gateway to many other drugs for me. The doc is starting me on Suboxone in 3 weeks. I am praying that this will be the answer to my addiction problem.

Dear fellow pain patients, I've been followed by Pain Management for 17 yrs. for chronic headaches due to a dissection of an major artery in my brain. My story is a little different, I went up to the max. dose of 300mcg Fentanyl patch and was on this dose for many years. Plus for breakthrough pain was on Demerol which they don't make anymore. I never became mentally addicted, and I never used more than prescribed. Fentanyl patches stop working so the doctors are slowly weening me off them. And they stopped making Demerol. So they put me on 5mg/325mg acetaminophen Oxycocet which is a far lower dose than the Demoral. Now they want me to go off the Oxycocet once I get down to the 50mcg Fentanyl patch and start me on Suboxone, which from reading some of your stories, good and bad, I fell really reluctant to go on suboxone, especially because of the breakthrough pain and frequent visits to Emergency for other health problems.........how will they be able to control my pain and will they label me a drug user when they see that I'm taking Suboxone? Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and fears.

Thank you for your insight on suboxone.
Ive been referred to a primary care doctor because he administers suboxone for off label use. I have TMJ . I also have atypical facial neuralgia. The pain is quite severe in spite of a custom mouth gaurd. Basically my pain is neuropathic and a few people are saying its a wonder drug for this pain. I've tried anti seizures which are used for my pain, but got severe hives. I currently take baclofen doxepin and a 5mg diazapam .
I'm very concerned about trying suboxone yet am thinking how nice it would be to live my life instead of stay in with pain. Years ago I tried OxyContin 10mg once a day, no side effects, but constipation and a bit of weight loss , so after a few years I discontinued the drug.I felt better for some time, so quit that pain management . Two years later the pain worsened and since 2010, I'm struggling with pain. A lady from my neuralgia group states suboxone works for her.
In a nutshell , I'm terrified over this appointment and suboxone. My current MEDS may need to be stopped as well. I appreciate any thoughts you may have. I live in Florida and have thought of traditional pain management, but so many only want to give injections and I have tried those in the past and felt worse as it is hit or miss with facial blocks.

Please do not go on methadone, I had been on different opiates for about 7 years for severe back problems and so on. I moved away and when I came back I lost my insurance, I had heard of drs. prescribing methadone for pain mgmt so I came up wit enough money to go to a local methadone clinic. Sad story but car broke down, ran out of money and out of the methadone clinic I was. I felt fine the first 3 days and then it hit me the worst withdrawels ever and I have been through withdrawels many times. After throwing up an entire day and night I finally told my husband it was either an ambulance or he figure out a way to get me to the er. When I got there I was so sick that my heart rate would not raise above 37 the doc told me he would give me something for pain because he didn't want to see me suffer but only if my heart rate would get to 60 well it didn't happen so 3 days in the hospital I was sent home with percocet 10mgs. as I ask them to please not judge me and thank God they didn't. I was still very weak and sick from coming off the methadone so they sent me home with a rx to wean me off a little longer. I thought I was going to die and if I wouldn't have made it to the hospital I probably would have....Please, please be careful with the methadone no matter where you are getting it from. Just say'n

I'm on Methadone after years of being on a cocktail of Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Codeine and muscle relaxants. I won't say how much oxy and fentanyl I was taking since nobody would believe it. In all honesty, I have no idea how I'm still alive - but I'm extremely happy to be, even though my chronic pain is a nightmare that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I have a wife and two young boys, that's how I keep going.
I started Methadone back in September 2015. Got up to my current dose of 110mg + 40-50mg Oxycodone relatively quickly. You are absolutely correct about pain management. My pain is an absolute nightmare. It's extremely severe, and constant. However, methadone has provided the most relief. My issue though is all the side effects. I'm getting bombarded. I have narcoleptic type fatigue, gained almost 40 pounds (can't do anything to shake it...extremely depressed about it) and profuse, excessive sweating (face, neck, back, chest). The sweating is uncontrollable. It's crazy. It sucks. I wish I could find some relief / treatment for the weight gain, the sweating, migraines, fatigue, nausea, etc...
Thanks,
Jeff
