Well, we just went to ENT and had a CT Scan for a ping pong size lump in front of ear by where jaw bone connects....it was a cyst that will need to be surgically removed. And because of the location of the cyst, it will need to be done at a major medical center like Mayo or Omaha. There is a facial nerve that runs through the same are that causes some issues when removing. While it wasn't deemed an emergency, it is pretty major. Our first diagnosis came as a swollen lymp node that accompanied an ear infection. When the swelling didn't go away after antiobiotics is when we were referred to ENT specialist.

So I would not depend on this thread and please go to the DR

In reference,to lumps on the back of the head, on the neck at the base of the skull, these lumps may also be muscle, spasms. They can cause pain and headaches. They can be caused by physical pr mental stress. My chiropractor can usually make them go away.

I could have wrote this! I had a benign brain tumor discovered & removed in 2003. Sadly it was found because out if the blue, I started having grand mal seizures. I'm Epileptic but it's mostly controlled by medicine.a couple times it was cold & windy and I had extreme ear pain. In my right ear. I hide from the wind. Yet, I still dismissed it. Now I found the lump in front of my ear on my right ear. Going to the dr tomorrow.

I recently started a juice cleanse. At the end of day 1, I felt like I had some sinus stuff going on through day 2. And the night of day 1 I noticed a painful, swollen bump in my THROAT! It scared the c**p out of me and I thought it was a tumor or something. If i massage it, it dissolves a little bit, but then goes back to original size. Yesterday morning I woke up with another one on my jaw near my ear which is very sore. I hope this has to do with the sinus infection thing - which may be a result of the cleansing in my juice diet. Ugh

I have the pleasure of a swollen lymph node around the ear, too. Quite painful when eating. For the record, the lymph glands in front and below the ear are Parotrid lymph glands related to salivation, and the associated swollen condition due to inflammation is called "Parotritis" (not "parasitis"!).

A common cause of a swollen Parotrid lymph gland is blockage by a salivary stone (a lump of calcium). Blockage by a salivary stone is called "Sialolithiasis". Helpful home remedies: Proper hydration, moist heat therapy (e.g. hot towel), bitter and sour foods (like citric fruits, that promote salivation), massage (from posterior to anterior, be gentle).

About 1 in 200 humans will experience this. It's more common for males, and for those between 30-60 years of age. Feels like a mixture of ear-ache, tooth ache and jaw spasm. Hope this info helps someone with further leads. Keep well and be happy!
