Gosh, I also feel a bit better now that I have read other posts. The thing is, you can never be too careful so no, we are not daft, just worried. I have cancer in my family so it is better to be safe than sorry!

I have a painful lump where my jaw begins, just in front of my ear, but I have a cold and my glands tend to swell up when Im ill, just never noticed it swell in that area before!! If it is still there when my cold gets better I will def go to doctors - I advise others to do the same if it is persistent!

I thought your lymph nodes were *under* your ear, in the soft hollow area behind your jawline?

I have the same problem and am also concerned. I am not otherwise sick and have not been sick in months, so I don't know why my lymph nodes would swell. :-( I also don't think lymph nodes are on the jaw...?

Hi,
you can add me to the list of those who have discovered a hard lump near the top of my jaw bone close to the ear. I just noticed it this morning when I reached up to scratch the area. I too have a small soft lump at the top of my forehead near the hairline. Neither lump really hurts, except the one near my ear and that because I keep touching it. I'm the nervous Nelly type, my own worst enemy sometimes. If anyone has any info please share. I find it curious that we have such similiar symptoms
Thanks, Kate

IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM, I HAD A BRAIN TUMOUR 9 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 16 AND I WAS STARTING TO WORRY THAT THIS LUMP MAY BE A TUMOUR. MINE IS NEAR MY RIGHT EAR LOBE/ JAW.
MY RIGHT EAR HAS BEEN FEELING HOT SOMETIMES AND IT SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE ITS GOT AIR IN IT ETC. COULD IT BE AN EAR INFECTION? ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR AGES THOUGH. I WENT DOCTORS A FEW MONTHS AGO AND HE SAID THAT MY EAR TUBE WAS INFLAMED SLIGHTLY.

I think we have a couple different things going on in this message stream. Lymph nodes ... and something else.

I went to the doctor about a pea-sized lump on my face kindof in front of my ear. The plastic surgeon said it was on the "buckle" of my jaw. I happened to be getting an MRI for my neck so they took a peek during the MRI. Mine was a fatty tumor. No risk, but it has gotten bigger, probably the size of a nickle now five years later.

The problem with the location of that is the plastic surgeon told me they can cut them out (and they usually are not anything to worry about, but they test them to see if they are) but that position on your face is really tricky and you could risk losing some of your muscle movement in your face and eye area. hence, i've left mine alone.

Get it checked. It's probably not anything to worry about --- but let the pro's tell you that.

Wow...I just found this knot on my jaw in front of my ear and get online to see if anyone else has had the same problem and I feel much better after reading all the posts. Just for safe measure I'm going to call my doc and ask him what he thinks but it sounds like it may be nothing.

Wow, I have this same problem!
I was doing a google search for "lump under ear" and came across this.
Nice to know I'm not alone. :-P
Yeah, mine is not that big, and it's RIGHT at the juncture of my earlobe and jaw.
My immediate fear is "cancer" (even though i'm young and have no reason to think that).
Mine is not painful, so I don't think it's a pimple or cyst... although, as the OP mentions, it is more painful now that I can't stop messing with it.

I guess if it's this common, it's probably nothing serious.
i'll just wait and see what happens.
Sometimes these things go away on their own.\Cheers.

I'm a little more at ease after reading the related posts. I realised two days ago that there was a little bump (dime size or so) just in front of my earlobe, at the top of my jawbone, and that it was somewhat tender and painful, i let it to till this morning, hoping that it would go away, only to notice it got even bigger, swelling the side of my face slightly, and even making the side of my eye bloodshot. I'm unsure where lymph nodes are located, but i've had problems that may be related, specifically a pain in the back of my skull that occurs on occasions when i laugh.

This might be what you have..

My mom had this not to long ago. You should definatly go to the doctor. It's called Parasitis. It is caused by not drinking enough water and a billion other things. Parasitis is when one of your lymph nodes becomes infected. It then swells. It gets bigger each day. My mom felt it starting to press on her eardrum and that is when she went to the doctor. They had to do a CAT scan on her to figure out what it was. So, the price of being in a hospital for 6hours and a CAT scan.. Of course.. Expensive. And of course.. it's the same with the prescription.

There's a possibility you might have this..

Not too long ago my mom got something called Parasitis. Parasitis is when your lymph nodes become infected and swell. It is caused by not drinking enough water and a billion of other things. My mom's was in the same place as you describe. It got bigger each day.. and it hurt, bad. Whenever she chewed, she was in pain. Throughout the day the whole left side of her head ached. When she woke up one morning it was pressing up against her eardrum. She then decided to go to the doctor. She was at the hospital for 6 hours, and they did a CATscan to find out what it was. Of course the price of staying in the ER for 6 hours and going through a CATscan isn't cheap. It's the same situation with her prescription.

I suggest you go to the doctor and get it checked out! Because as the days go on it can worsen.

I hope this helps!!
