5 weeks post op and my uvula also hangs lower BUT I've gotten rid of the bitter/metallic/vomit-flavor taste in my through by gargling hydrogen peroxide.  Just follow the directions on the bottle to make a mouth wash (1 part peroxide to 1 part water) and swish/gargle for 1 min.  Do this daily.  I actually started twice a day.  After the first day the taste went away.  Then it came back a week later, so I did it again and it's gone again.  Just a little help from another forum I found :)

I am almost one year post op. I even had my uvual mostly removed as well. I have a nub left. :/ I can actually feel the back part of my soft palate and the nub sitting on the back of my tounge all the time. Sadly, I never had any sleep issues before this and now my husband tells me I make a clicking sound if I sleep on my back. Its my airway area flapping open and closed. It is very concerning to me. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have read to start gargling to strengthen the soft palate back up. So, I am going to start doing that for 2 minutes twice a day with salt water.. praying this helps.. anyone else with this issue?

Just had a tonsilectomy nov 6 it is now jan 29 almost 3 months after surgery and my sh*t is still swollen. The whole reason I had surgery was because I had one of the worst case scenarios for sleep apnea and now with all this swelling the sleep apnea is worse than before still 3 months later. Palate is so low even with my mouth completely open you can barely see my uvula its crazy and causing me alot of breathing problems don't know what to do

I am 4 months post tonsil removal. I have the same issues with my uvula touching my tongue. Some days are worse than others and it seems to be worse in the evening hours. My ENT has been giving me these injections in my throat. I do not know the name of them but they are Salt/Saline. He says the mixture is 25% more potent than an IV you are giving in the Hospital. He numbs my throat some and then injects the mixture in my soft palate. He says this causes a blister under the tissue and when it bust and starts to heal it creates scar tissue that will pull and tighten the soft palate and pull the uvula back up. I have had 4 shots 3weeks ago and 2 more last week. I do feel like there is an improvement on one side. This issue we all are having is terrible. I dont have trouble eatting or drinking, thank GOD. My problems occur just out of the blue. I feel like something is in my throat gagging me. I hope we all heal from this. Maybe talk to your ENT about the injection. My Doctor said that the idea originated from the Military. That they gave men the injections during boot camp to help them from snoring and keeping others awake. Hope it helps.

9 years post op, I was a slow healer, well I think they botched my tonsillectomy from the get go... But I have no insurance, the VA did my procedure. I was a 27 yr old adult. Chronic tonsillitis, multiple bouts a year with large pockets full on constant gross tonsilliths that smell and taste like death. By week 3 I still could not eat anything but jello and broth, I even knew something was wrong post op while still at the va recovering after surgery. They weren't letting me go, but not telling me there was complications. F those D bags.
Week 3 I bleed, and boy did I bleed, not your regular hemorrhage either, which is also still rare, and usually day 7, or hours after op. Full so much blood I was swallowing it, throwing it back up, chocking and drowning on it. Blood was everywhere and it looked like a murder scene, it was coagulating in my mouth between my teeth, vomiting it and bursting blood, it was a pseudoaneurysm! The blood slowed after 20-30 mins, and started clotting, I never called 911, but looking back and now knowing it was life threatening, and how the va treated me, I should have called 911. I just called a friend to drive me to the hospital, bleeding out all over the driveway as I waited for them. Not realizing I was in a life threatening condition! Well luckily it clotted, but the va did nothing, they hospitalized me, gave me a transfusion, and released me about 36 hours later. Found out there should have never been a clot post 3 week, it was a new clot from the pseudoaneurysm, that was then needing to be cauterized, fortunately it didn't rupture again. Cause man, I probably would have went back, and died at the va.
But 9 years later, my uvula is not just low, and never rose up, the whole back palate is collapsed, it's mainly one side, the right side looks like it did try to go back a bit, but the left side stayed collapsed. 9 years later, beside that I too still struggle swallowing things because of this, have to really force a swallow for some thing if they go to high... And the lovely scar tissue, to this day my throat feels tight, and I get these soar throats, not like a common cold, but this tight agitated raw feeling, if I've talked to long, sang, drank a rockstar, it all hurts my throat, 9 years post op, I really wouldn't recommend this procedure to anyone, for any reason, be it tonsillitis, or sleep apnea! But one thing, one pro, is no more chronic tonsillitis, but the rest are cons, so bad I'll trade for my tonsillitis back! Ugh and I hate my voice to this day, epic voice change, I sound like that super nasal actress now, I hate it

I am 10 mos post tonsillectomy and I've been left with a lower, breathy/nasal voice...I was 3 days out when a bad arterial bleed sent me back into an emergency surgery. They suctioned over 100 cc's of blood from my mouth during intubation and another 400 cc's from my stomach. My original ENT did not even want to see me after the emergency surgery (performed by the weekend surgeon on duty). When I was still hoarse almost 3 weeks later he suggested speech therapy and said not to return to his office as the scope showed no issues. So...while everyone loves my new lower "sexier" voice...I'm left quite frustrated that I've had a swallow x-ray showing I have difficulty due to a palate and tongue issue and I am quite nasal/breathy sounding due to the excessive amt of my palate that was removed during one of these surgeries. No one will admit anything. I've been told by another ENT that I have bowed vocal cords with scar tissue and by yet another that it's impossible and it's just due to the EXTREME excessive amount of missing palate. So forever if I have any liquid or gooey substance in my mouth and I bend or lean over...it comes out my nose. If I take too much liquid too quickly into my mouth it shoots out my nose...taking medicine and vitamins can be a real challenge as well causing me to choke slightly and water shoots out my nose. I was also told that all of this would resolve in 2-6 mos...but I'm 10 mos out and was just re-scoped by yet another ENT...and my issues are termed permanent. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My throat looks like one side has a sheet hanging and the other side barely has any palate and with a light you can see up into my nasal passages :-(

One of the worse side effects of tonsil removal. It sure will cause sleep apnea in long term which is deadly. Do the sleep study and take care of that immediately

I have the same problem. I am now six months post op, and there is no improvement. I will be making an appointment to see a different ENT doctor. And then possibly sueing the doctor that performed my tonsillectomy. Because my sagging soft palate is causing me to have breathing problems that interfere with my sleep

It’s 11 months after my surgery. One side of my throat is much larger opening that the left side Doctor must have taken more tissue. He did say I didn’t have cancer but I never did have cancer so? My problem is I feel that the back of my tongue was tie up to the back of my mouth and now when it rests it is shorter on the right side if that makes sense. It feels like it is sewed up to the back of my mouth anyone have that problem?

I am singer too! had my surgery just over 2 months ago. Had a great surgeon who deals with singers. While my uvula has basically returned to normal size, and the palate seems to slightly lift higher with time, it's still swollen looking and is not fully able to go as high as pre op. Is this a process that can take several more months? I worry about scar tissue maybe having a role.. Did yours ever go back to normal?
