I get skin numbness (all over) after drinking alcohol or eating something containing sugar. Since a round of antibiotics in January, it is constant and worsens after ingesting alcohol or sugar (and maybe other foods). It seems like it is related to yeast overgrowth but I have found no information to support that theory. If anyone has a link to that kind of information, it would be good to know why and what I can do to return to normal.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I just had a couple beers and felt the slight tingling/numbness in my jaw as described by other posters. I called my dad -he's an ER physician with decades of experience- and he said it's nothing to worry about. Alcohol can be a numbing agent and it hits everyone differently and in different parts of the body. It's not indicative of serious neurological problems; and unless you're feeling numb/sickly for multiple consecutive days, it's not symptomatic of anything like a tumor. I repeat: do NOT worry fellow hypochondriacs. This is just a weird quirk that some of our bodies have.

Just a theory, but I tend to have numbness when I sleep well. I lay in positions in bed, say on my hands, for a long time. When I awake, they are asleep. And that slight numb feeling lasts all day. So maybe you're all just sleeping really really well and not moving enough so cutting off circulation a bit! XD

For those of you still wondering about the facial numbness thing, I may have a bit of insight...
Just logically looking at what Ethanol does to your body, numbness isn't really all that weird... Ethanol will affect the nervous system in a lot of ways, and it just happens to be affecting your face a lot faster than the rest of your body.
Most people don't know this, but the majority of alcohol we feel an effect from got into our blood stream through the capillaries in our mouth. So, it makes sense that the nerve endings around those capillaries in our mouth will be affected first. If you just down a drink really fast, then you're exposing your mouth less to the effects of the Ethanol. But, if you nurse a drink or drink it a bit slower than you would drink something like a shot, THEN you're exposing those nerves to the Ethanol more often and you'll feel the effects more strongly.
I'm honestly not sure about the finger numbness, but I have weird nerve and circulation issues to begin with so I just chalk that up to my body having a mind of its own.
Hope this helps :-)

The tingling and numbness, I have found with myself, are from hypoglycemia. I will go through this after a hard binge and the only alleviation I found was to take down sugar immediately. When I feel it coming on I get Oranje Juice and the symptoms go away but once the sugar wears off it begins again.
Stop drinking if you want to stop these feelings. Abstinance is the only way when one becomes too far gone.

There is very little answer to this except to stop drinking, it is caused by falling asleep drunk and therefore not rotating while asleep. You are probably alright unless you are quite old, in which case you should get it checked. If you are in your 20s and go to the doctor about it, that is all he will tell you because it's almost impossible to know. Oh he will also tell you to stop drinking. Forgot that bit.

I get the numbness, slightly tingling on all my skin. Like, I get an itch, and I hardly feel myself scratching it. My lips and tongue feel it too. But only after drinking. its fine the next day. Seems everyone experiences similar symptoms but different time periods. Im feeling it now (second glass of wine) tongue is numb.

I have experienced similar things with both alcohol and coffee. Sometimes palpitations of the heart as well.
Once I went to the ER because the palpitations were severe.
The doctor in the ER told me that alcohol and coffee will both leach magnesium and other minerals from your blood.
These minerals are important for the proper electrical conduction in nerves, including the heart. The disturbance is temporary, but if you have a bad hangover and treat it with coffee you'll make the nerve problem worse.
I've started cutting way back on alcohol and have stopped coffee altogether. Plus I drink mineral water. It has helped, but if I do have a night of heavy drinking it still happens.

I get this, too.
But.. do you really *need* to feel your nose or face or throat when you're drinking??

Tingling around knees elbows and my face was tingling as well and my eyes wanted to close. Feeling shaky and weak. Drank water gatorade and OJ gatorade helped the most. I know happend from the binge I went on but these things didn't start happening until 10 hours after my last drink. It was very weird and scary. I am now having chills and I wanna sleep but I don't wanna wake up to the tingling again. I must stop drinking. I must eat more and healthier.

Rubbish. Many patients have complained of facial paraesthesia following consumption of alcohol shots and beers within an acute period. The speed at which one feels intoxicated is due to a combination of absorptive contents within the gastrointestinal tract and the metabolic effects at the liver. If what you said is correct, then one will get more intoxicated by simply holding wine in the mouth than actually drinking it....utter nonsense.
