I am 61 and had my tonsils removed, I thought, when I was 6. Since Dec. of 2013, I had major pain in my left ear. Went to one of those walk-in clinics and they told me it was a throat infection. Woke up the next morning and the pain had become a knife stabbing pain. I went back to the clinic and they gave me some drops and changed my antibiotic. Three days later, I went to my PCP's office and was told I'd just have to give it some time. I was finally able to get in to see and ear doctor weeks later and was told it was a TMJ issue. I went to this speciallist and he did all kinds of tests and the head xray and had my ear doctor order a CT Scan. The TMJ doctor told me I had 2 cysts on my L-side and suggested I see the ear doctor. I saw him the next day and he told me I had a cyst on my R-side in the Parotid Gland and would be ordering me a biopsy. I was a little confused so when I left my ear doctor, I called the TMJ's office and told them my delima. He said he would get with the doctor and get back with me. I received a call back and the TMJ doc said the report said 2 cysts on ht L-side and that he would call the ear doctor. I later that same day received a call from my ear doctor to come in the next day to discuss what he and the TMJ doc had discussed. I went in and the ear and he informed me the TMJ doc asked him to look at my tonsil on the L-side. The ear doc checked the area where all of the tonsil should have been removed and wasn't and found I had a pussey infection in the part of the tonsil that had been left from surgery. He gave me a strong antibiotic and by the third day, I was already feeling about 25% better. Needless, to say, wasn't anyone's fault because I thought I had mentioned about going to the clinic with the diagnosis being a throat infection and remembering the ear doctor's reaction and he didn't have it in his notes. I'm usually not one to question, but when I had 2 different answers from the CT Scan's results, then I thought it best to ask. The other two cysts just happen to be in my thyroid, so I actually did have 3 cysts. Had I not had the CT Scan done, I would have just gone on taking what I could and never finding out about the tonsil. It is never for me to question my doctor if I have had so much faith in him, but this was one time I needed to make sure. I remember a long time ago I had some back problems and they did an MRI and found I had a tumor in my thyroid. I've known of several people that have had major issues and they go for tests and find out something's wrong somewhere else in the body. I think this is one way God has of watching out for us.
