Glenn -- THANK YOU!!
I started having this issue a couple of weeks ago, and it got to the point of unbearable today. 15 minutes of these exercises, and I feel much better. I'm gonna keep it up..
Thanks again!

I have the exact same thing. It started with numbness and tingling. It has become more painful as time went on. It comes and goes, but as the pain level is slowly increasing, I wonder what I should do. With no medical insurance I dare not go to the doctor for testing. It is located below the right shoulder blade about 2 to 3 inches from the spine. It is constantly numb. I am also fighting a MRSA infection and was afraid the two were connected, but now I have my doubts. Would love to know what this is.

It is a relief to stumble upon this thread. About 3 weeks ago I started feeling a slight tingling sensation on my upper left back, between the shoulder blade and the spine. It came on and off and so I dismissed it. But about a week ago, the tingling intensified and seemed to spread to the middle of my left back. I then got worried and googled my condition. This thread didn't come up as one of the top results though. Instead, I was getting things like multiple sclerosis which is a very frightening and debilitating neurological disease. After reading up on the symptoms of MS (e.g. numbness in hands and feet etc), I started experiencing numbness in my left hand and also my right foot! On one occasion, my scalp and face went numb for a few minutes.
I went to see a GP about it and he said it was most probably stress and anxiety that was causing the numbness throughout my body, and the numbness may last for a while. When I told him about my worries of MS, he said that it was very unlikely since MS is very rare in ethnic chinese. (I'm female, aged 22 and chinese). About my back numbness, he said that it was probably a muscle issue.
After hearing his diagnosis, I did feel relieved and over the next few days, my numbness slowly decreased. Just yesterday my left hand was still slightly numb but today, it is back to normal. My take on this is that my back numbness and my reading up on MS triggered off immense stress which in turn caused my hands and feet to feel numb. It's like a vicious cycle. I'm glad to be out of it and hope that the numbness will not recur!
However, my back numbness persists. When I read Glenn's post on this thread, I am starting to think that my left back numbness is a result of poor posture over time. I tend to hunch especially when seated, and only recently I became aware of my habit of slouching to the left when seated, and resting my head on my left palm. There might also be some muscle tension, as occasionally i experience a transient dull ache on my upper left back, but it doesn't occur frequently so I'm not too worried about that.
I have an upcoming appointment with a neurologist in about a month's time which was made before my visit to the GP. I will keep that appointment just to confirm that my numbness isn't a symptom of a more sinister cause. And I will try out the Y exercise that Glenn recommended. Will keep you all updated!
Thank you for this thread! :)

I have been having similar tingling symptoms on the right side of my mid-back. But I have also noticed that I have a sore area on my upper spine. Since there is no pain involved, I am going to return to the chiropractor for an adjustment. At this time, I do not believe it to be shingles. The adjustment should do away with the tingling.

I have this problem when a rib gets out of place- it's a common chiropractic problem. Try a chiropractic adjustment and see if you feel better

I seriously am in shock that such a bizarre thing that started happening to me last week is something that so many of you have as well! I have assumed it was just stress and maybe I pinched a nerve or something. i just wish there was a solid answer.
