It has been mentioned a few times in this entire thread that this condition is called Notalgia Paresthetica. Therefore, I am not sure why so many here keep looking for other explanations like shingles etc. I have this NP and it causes the tingling itching spot medial to the lower shoulder blade area, but it also creates tingling and itching to the nap of my neck area, and even muscles tightness in my upper left back area. Mine is aggravated by any upper body movement, especially involving overhead. Quite annoying most of the time, and VERY difficult to deal with some of time.

I would advise to get the area massaged, lean on it to apply pressure, or put on a heat pad. I get these tingling sensations in the same spot every now and then, under my left shoulder blade, next to my spine. It usually comes after heavy weight lifting or stress to my back so it definitely has to do with some sort of muscle tension. I've noticed that when I do the above it goes away. I don't have any rash or mole, nor does it itch so it is definitely not shingles or notalgia.

Lets try something new and see if we can maybe pinpoint something we have are all doing in common.
I dont smoke cigarettes, but I do smoke marijuana. I have a perscription for my crohnes disease.
I get that tingling like a knife then complete numbness on top of my left shoulder blade when I smoke a new strain grown by someone I am not used to. Its completely numb to a point where I can stick needles into it and wont feel anthing. About the size of a dollar coin. Ive come to accept that maybe its the way my body reacts to new chemicals (different growers use different kinds and amounts of fertilizer). It usually goes away after a few smokes or maybe 2 days. It however persits if the marijuana is dirty and too full of chemicals. I then stop smoking that strain and it eventually goes away.
Once I smoked some that wasnt from the clinic and it was so dirty, half of my back went numb and was tingling. Im talking pinch as hard as you want numb.
Hope some people state some of their habits and maybe we can see pinpoint a cause. I wouldnt be surprised if cigarettes caused a similar problem. Due to impurites left behind after the drying and curing.

Started about 6 months ago for me, inline with my shoulder blades, just left of the center line. I first though there was a piece of tape on my back (work as a night stocker, tape and cardboard all night) but there was nothing there. Every few days I'd feel it, but I've learned to ignore it as it isn't painful and goes away in about 10 minutes. Today I felt it again, then it spread like tingling in both directions in my back up to my shoulder blades. Disappeared soon enough. I'll get it checked out as soon as I get health insurance, but for now I'm hoping someone with similar issues has an answer.

I have had a similar tingling right below my left shoulder blade towards my spine but its usually during or after I work in the studio throwing on the wheel or drawing. It lasts only for a bit then goes away with some stretching or yoga.

Wow, I have been experiencing the same thing for at least a few months now, maybe even a year. It's a spot between my spine and the bottom my left shoulder blade. When it first started, I would occasionally feel like I was being stung or bit by a bug or something in that one spot, and would have people look and they would say that there was nothing there. Then sometimes it would itch really bad. Then it started feeling numb. Now it is a burning/stinging pain almost all the time. I haven't been to the doctor about it, but from what I have read it sounds like these symptoms are related to a pinched nerve. I wonder if a chiropractor could help? I have always had a lot of muscle tension in my upper back, and it got worse when I had my daughter (now 10 months old) and began breastfeeding her.
