I've had the same tingling around shoulder blade for around 18 months (comes on usually when slouching or holding my arms above my head).  I first started getting it soon after I felt a pain in my back when moving in bed.  I'm pretty sure its a cervical disc problem, probably pinching a nerve.  Unless its very painfull i doubt surgery will be needed, perhaps muscle relaxers or anti-inflammatory could help (never tried).  I guess only an MRI scan would show what is wrong.

I just went to my ortho yesterday and he said my tingling/buzzing feeling in my left shoulder blade would be comming from my neck...Should i follow up on this with a neck specialist. The only thing i can atribute to this would be a car accident back in 2006, and i had low back and neck damage.....

Reading through the posts, looks like the most likely answer is a compressed nerve in or around the spine. Most poeple have reported a herniated disk, bad posture or an old injury. Also, many people with a pinched nerve might not know they have it.

I have exacly what almost everyone is describing, comes and goes, about 1 inch in diameter just between the shoulder blade and the spine on the left side. I also sometimes have excruciatingly intense intching in my arm that will last for about 15 minutes, but sometimes longer if it comes while I'm trying the sleep. I use ice, get the area very cold (ice directly on skin until it hurts), and then bear out the itching for a minute or two and it will usually go away - if not I repeat. I atrribute both to the same thing, a pinched nerve.

Just searched with exactly the same symptoms - itching/creeping sensation middle of back just to right of my spine.  At least I am not alone or going mad!  If anyone resolves it please let the group know!

I am 20 and have the exact same symptoms everyone has talked about. It's a numb spot the size of a quarter that tingles off and on. I have never had shingles so it's most likely not connected to that. I do however have high stress and do drink because I'm in college. I'm going to start logging when it tingles to see if it's connected to anything or if it's just stress. I'm a nagger at an HEB, and the tingling started right around the time I started working there, so my gut tells me it's a pinched nerve from being in an awkward position all day.

I too, am suffering from this phenomenon! I was trying to describe this tingling to my mom who is an RN.. and the best way I could describe it was to compare it to the tingle at the beginning of a cold sore. (Yuk) But what I first said was it felt like there was a sea urchin inside my back..LOL! Such a trip to look up my symptoms and see that I AM SOOO NOT ALONE! Kinda cool really! Anyway,..my story is that I was in a minor car accident. Literally a tap on my driver's side, but I swear it jerked my neck just enough to cause me to go and see a dr...Long story short is that they did x-rays and found many issues..whiplash, scoliosis, arthritis, and (im not sure what the correct words are but..) in my neck the bone is touching the other bone (or disc ,? whatever,) where I should have a space of cartilage in between, I don't. He said he was amazed that I still have a range of movement at all. The tingling started about 2 weeks after the accident and it has been coming and going everyday since( about 3 mos now) I am now scheduled for 2 MRI's tomorrow. My best guess is that I have some sort of pinched nerve or nerve damage. I also had a thought that maybe it was in my liver? A liver quiver?

Arer the mjority of users on this thread high computer users? if so does the side the sensation occures on relate to the arm that uses the mouse? just wondering. because mine does (right shoulder blade) and I sit for a living at a computer. im young (under 35) and fit...but I dont do yoga or anything and I havnt had any back injuries (that I know of). it just started recnetly after working like this for 5+ years. im curious if its simply a byproduct of our computer generation

FYI my dad is an MD and says its probably just random nerve sensations that can occur to anyone at any time for no reason at any place on the body. we only think its not random because we found a forum with others with the same spot but all in all it can happen anywhere and last forever or end tomorrow. #damnnatureyoucrazy

Having the same tingling sensation. Feels like Icy Hot.  I also have some neck issues, but a sports medicine dr. said it is a classic symptom of shingles. I do know that shingles usually happens several weeks after some form of mental or physical stress (virus, childbirth, etc) and I did have a stomach flu about 3 weeks ago. It also does not always cause a rash, but I almost wish I would get one soon so I can confirm that's what this is.

I have a sporadic tingling sensation in my mid back to the left side of my spine. It has been occurring for the last two months after I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. I have had x-rays, CT scans, and finally an MRI. Doctor says the discs are fine and that the tingling is from nerve damage. The downside is that he says it may resolve itself over time or it may be something that I will just have to deal with for as long as it continues. No pain, just very annoying and distracting since it comes and goes whenever it wants.
