I have roommate that started to use Paroxetine. He uses it for treatment of major depressive disorder. When I asked him what this medication used for, he couldn’t tell me anything. I am worried about him, because he had some wrong drugs before that he chooses alone. That’s why I would like to know something more about Paroxetine, is that right drug for him.

Paroxetine is used to treat disorder that your roommate suffers from, such as panic disorder too. It is used to potentate of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system resulting from inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin. Studies have shown that Paroxetine blocks the uptake of serotonin into human platelets. This drug is completely absorbed after oral dosing of a solution of the hydrochloride salt. Paroxetine distributes throughout the body, including the CNS, with only 1% remaining in the plasma. The efficacy of Paroxetine as a treatment for major depressive disorder has been established in two 12-week flexible dose, placebo-controlled studies of patients with DSM IV Major Depressive Disorder. A major depressive episode implies a prominent and relatively persistent depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure nearly in all activities. It represents a change from previous functioning and includes the presence of at least five symptoms. Those are depressed mood, markedly diminished interest or pleasure in usual activities, significant change in weight, appetite and insomnia or hypersomnia etc. With those problems, Paroxetine might be helpful to treat his major depressive disorder, so you don’t need to be worried this time.
