I'm 16 years old and I got PR about 3 weeks ago or so. My doctor told me it would completely disappear on its own after at most 2 months, and when I go to another appointment in mid February, it should be gone! I luckly have a milder case that is only on my torso and not my arms and legs, and isn't that bright red. I know this is posted like a year after everyone else but I still wanted to comment lol. Oh and also, avoid scratching them as much as possible! This prevents scarring.

I had pityriasus rosea for about 3 months. The itch cream the docotor gave me didn't work, nothing seemed to work. But i found the cure to it :D. The cure is aloe vera. I used the jelly type material inside an aloe vera plant, and immediately my severe itching had suddenly disappeared. The red bumps all over my chest started to fade within a few days. Be sure to sleep on your side with yours hands away from the affected area or you'll scratch it in your sleep and mess things up. So yea don't let any doctor tell you there isn't a cure, because i know for a fact aloe vera cured mine. Spread the word!

GO TO THE DERMATOLOGIST!!!  My GP said to come back in two months if it didn't go away!  I suffered for a few days, and when it went to my face, I went to the dermatologist.  She said it often does go to the face, legs and arms (even though the GP said it didn't)   She gave me Valacyclovir 3 times a day and two creams, one for my face, and one for my body.  She "didn't" tell me to go tanning because it works, but has risks.  Within two pills, rash is less irritated, and flaking over.  It has not spread as of today, 4 pills in, and is visibly better.  She said I will be much better in a week!!!! NOT TWO MONTHS OR LONGER!  I am tanning everyday for 5 minutes in a low level bed and showering with Head and Shoulders as I have read it helps many people.  I feel so much better today and back in control of my life and body.  Do not wait, go to the dermatologist and ask for medicine!

I was diagnosed with pityriasis three weeks ago and had good luck treating it with sun.  I normally take a long time to get over viral infections but this went away very quickly.  I read on several sites that sun and/or tanning was a good at home treatment and my GP said it was worth a try.  I also was heading to Florida for spring break and didn't want to look gross.  I normally don't go tanning but after the first time I noticed significant improvement.  I went two more times and then went on vacation.  After a week of sunshine and tanning, my skin is almost 100% clear.  I was able to treat the itching with hydrocortisone and oatmeal baths.  About the same time I noticed little red bumps on my elbows and wrists.  I applied some Head to Toe Salve from Whidby Island Soap company and they went away within a few days.  I've gotten these before and the dermatologist was unable to diagnose them but they seem to come back every spring.  Either way, this stuff helped much more than any topical steroids, also tried it on my pityriasis and it helped too.  I swear by this stuff for just about everything!

My son at age 5 was diagnosed with PR. it took all summer to heal and then turned into chronic plaque psoriasis which had never been completely at bay. A year later after a bath,i found yet another herald patch and and other smaller scaly rashes beginning. Has this relapse ever happened to anyone? I kept the Protopic and jars of Trimincolone so he got a healthy coating last night and I left a message with his dermatologist. This is crazy!

Hi. I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea and its been 2 weeks now. Rashes are still everywhere but i can see that some are fading away. The doc gave me aqueos cream and hydrocortisone. I feel like a freak now. Its everywhere on my body. My arms itches like hell. Cant stop crying. Any of you ever have this? Doc said that it usually will last for 6 months or maybe a year. I hope its not true as i cannot bear this any longer. Lucky that it is semester break now. I hope it will clear up completely before my new semester in june. Thanks for any of you who read this. Do share your experience or info.

Yea that is a sign of healing. And yes i had it on my chest only//pretty nasty looking. The aloe vera was from the actual plant i had in my backyard too. But for the love of god dont scratch it. Mine was healing, then 1 night i slept with my hands on my chest and scratched like a dog in my sleep, prolonging the sick evil disease. Also scratching leaves scars.

Thanks for the advice. I did avoid scratching as much as i can and slept with long sleeves every night but then when i woke up i realised i was scratching like a dog too. Btw,are you sure it was pityriasis rosea? As far as i concerned this disease spread all over your body, even on the face but lucky me i dont have any on my face. It was so lucky of u that u only had it on ur chest.

Can I also use the aloe vera gel they sell at the health store? It's already packaged up in a bottle. By the way, I don't have pityriasis rosea I unfortunately have pityriasis lichenoides chronica.

OK I just had this my dr said it would go away in a few months but SHOCKING it didn't. I had read that you go tanning it will go away i went tanning for a week and guess what it worked.
EVERYONE WHO HAS PITYRIASIS ROSEAA GO TANNING!!!  lay out in the sun go to a tanning bed. I was cleared up in no time. It doesn't hurt it goes away and fast. I'm a living breathing proof. It works!!! I had this all over my thighs and iit was going on my chest back, and stomach. Not to mention i caught a few spots on my arm. After 4 visits to a tanning bed my arms, chest , back and stomach began to fade. The itch went away. And in two weeks (because my thighs were covered) My thighs cleared up trust me there is hope and it works!!! Spread the word!!! :)

If you cant gt the plant itself, I dont see why not to buy it in a bottle since it is aloe vera. And Yea ive heard tanning works but, if your like me and got it in winter when its Very very cold, there is no sun haha and you have no choice but to go to work and hope for the best everyday when you look in the mirror. Dont give up hope do the tanning if possible and or use aloe vera ,im sure they both work. Good Luck!
