Try a gluten-free diet for 2 or so weeks and I bet you see the rash disappear completely. Gluten is culprit of many things, it has many faces and hides so well.

it's not likely that it would come back twice... kind like chicken pox. if you had it once, you probably won't get it again.

My son had this really quite badly and was completely covered. After doing some research I decided to try him on Milkthistle and Echinacea (a good quality brand for both is recommended) and it was completely gone in six weeks. Some also recommend showering with head and shoulder shampoo but my son had no need so we never tried that.

I have had PR for about four years now. Sometimes it gets worse and appears on my face and neck also. But i have never been spot free since the first day. The doctor told me it will last up to 6 months only but here i am... Whenever i'm stressed out, it gets much worse so the doctor gave me some doxepin pills to take. Do you guys know anyone who got rid of it after a long time?

26 year old male.  I've had self-diagnosed PR for 10 years.  I assumed I was allergic to something that my skin was touching.  So I now use all-natural laundry detergent, and dryer sheets.  I have used every single kind of all natural, organic with essential oil, types of bar soaps from the health food store.  Nothing makes it go away.  Other than it being unaesthetically pleasing, it doesn't bother me one bit.  I'm going on my honeymoon this December and would rather not have PR on my stomach, chest, and arms, while on running around on the beaches of Hawaii.  I'm not going to use any steroid.  Any suggestions?

I was diagnosed with P.R. almost a year ago...I am 35 year old male about to turn 36. The Mother patch is located under my left pectoral muscle! It has never itched; typically its red and oval in shape, with 15 or so little patches on my torso and a couple on my back Not finding any home remedies or medications that worked I have taken the matter into my own hands!! I am not sure if this has anything to do with it? If you use tobacco products-STOP! I have been using chewing tobacco for the past 6 1/2 years, everyday.... Almost all day. I noticed every morning when I woke up the redness was gone (obviously not chewing in my sleep) and the patches were beginning to fade some.....! Every time I went to work and started chewing I noticed they would get red agin and some times a new one would pop-up. I have been wanting to quit (chewing/dipping) for a long time...... Since no one really knows what P.R.  is caused from "everything is speculation" Well last week at work, I was put in a really stressful situation and chewed 2x the amount of tobacco that I normally chew. That night when I got off of work, I noticed my stomach really itching and when I lifted up my shirt I was shocked the rash had almost doubled and began to itch (this was the first time in a year, it itched me)! that was a week and a half ago. I stopped chewing tobacco that night (cold turkey) haven't had 1 pinch since! I started taking colonial-silver the next day, both ingesting it and spraying the rash down with it! I have been drinking tones of water and also got a prescription of biaxin antibiotics, every night before I go to bed I take 2 bynadrle, I also started using a product called Dr. bronner's Magic Soaps its all natural (sort of hippie stuff)  ingredients: Water, Organic coconut oil, Organic olive oil, etc for when I shower! Needles to say after one year of this embarrassing c**p! It' almost completely gone!! A couple little dark spots and they both seem to be fading daily hope this helps!

Everyones body is different, I think mine was overloaded with toxic tobacco I have been putting in my mouth and swallowing for years! Maybe the rash is some sort of way the body is releasing an overload of chemicals? IDK Drs. and scientist need to figure it out!!!!

UItra violet light.  Don't wait a week or a month.  Get into the sun, or if you can't do that go to a tanning salon.  If the normal time to start a tan is 10 minutes, then do 5 minutes every other day.  You will see the first results in two days, and you may be as lucky as I was to get almost full remission in a week. I can't understand why more reference sources don't advise this.  With a tanning salon, you may have to avoid telling them that you have this condition.

As I am going through the last stages of pityriasis rosea, I wanted to share what I did to ease my situation. I found the initial rash in my arm and then another area on my lower back. I considered bed bugs and went to centra care for diagnosis. They did not have a definite answer but gave me cortisone. That didn't work. It continued to spread in my stomach my butt and thighs. The itch was worse at night. First, I went online and thank God I found websites like this one where i was able to find information. The following treatment worked wonders for me in three weeks: -Use Head and Shoulders shampoo unscented original as a body wash with water as cold as you can handle. -Use aveno eczema body lotion. If it gets too greasy, bathe again before going to bed and use a lighter nongreasy formula. MOST IMPORTANTLY Go tanning. Use the tanning bed!! NOT the standing booth. The rash goes through phases. 1- little balls 2- balls expand and get flatter on your skin 3- gets dry and scabby 4- area gets white. That's the last part. Another thing that happened to me was that there was a day when I woke up and the rash seemed to be "asleep" meaning that it wasn't as noticeable. I decided to stay home in bed and realized that the rash wasn't as bad. I guess that resting makes a difference so don't work out because sweat ignited the rash and it gets worse. BE PATIENT. Mine lasted 5 weeks. Three weeks with treatment.

Hello, I got diagnosed with this yesterday. I was given steroid creams and some tablets before bed time. I can highly recommend not using any lotions with any chemicals in as it aggravates the skin. I went to a specialist dermatologist in this condition and was told it will probably clear up quite quickly with the creams. I have not got the cream with me but can get the name and re post for you, one has urea in it and soothes right away. In the mean time aqueous cream kept in the fridge works great too. My scarring is minimal and I am mixed race. Good luck from Selina in London

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea around the middle of November. I had a bright red patch on my groin that started a week before the rash. A week later came the red, inflamed, itchy oval shaped bumps from my hairline down my chest and lower back. After a few dermatologist appts. Hearing I would have to deal with it and wait for it's to run it's course, I was not having it! I did my research and found that tanning beds apparently work. I have a medium based skin tone so I stayed out in a low bed for a full 20 minutes. I burned but the burn stopped the itching and the next day I woke up and noticed it hadn't gotten worse and that the bumps looked smaller! I was in shock! I went again 2 days later for 15 minutes this time since I was still a little pink from before. After 4 tanning bed sessions, for a total of about an hour, the bumps were gone! In only 2 1/2 weeks. I also found that not so hott water with aveno oatmeal body wash and aveno oatmeal unscented lotion keep the itching away. Keeping your body moisturized is essential especially while using the tanning beds! I swear by the tanning beds and am so thankful I used them. I kicked pityriasis rosea's ass! Good luck and go tan! You'll get a nice bronze glow too which is never a bad thing! ;)

I noticed a circle on my shoulder and I figured it was a dry skin spot. it kind of looked like ring worm but my nurse friend said it wasn't. I put cream on I but it didn't seem to go away. 2 weeks after I noticed this circle, I started getting little smaller versions of it on my upper chest. a few days after that, I broke out all over my stomach. I asked a few people and they all said it was probably winter eczema or dry skin. I moisturized it and nothing worked. I decided to go to the urgent care hospital and the doctor told me it was pityriasis rosea. he told me there was no treatment and that it was self curing. I WAS NOT going to accept that as an answer because I was way too uncomfortable and self conscious and didn't want it to spread anywhere else on my body. I went home and started looking up forums like this one to see what other people did for home remedies. I've had this for about 2 weeks now and with the routine I do everyday I am seeing MAJOR positive results. I shower in the morning and use HEAD AND SHOULDERS shampo mixed with avenno sensitive skin unscrnted body wash. when i get out of the shower I put cortozone cream and aveeno eczema moisturizer all over my stomach and lay there till it all absorbs. later on in the day I go tanning. then at night I repeat the shower/ post shower routine. I am almost positive the tanning is what has sped up the process of being cured. I went 4 days in a row and they all dried up, turning white around the edges, and aren't red anymore. along with those skin treatments I have been eating healthier than normal, drinking a ton of water to flush out my system, and putting a pack of emergen-c citrus flavored immune system booster in my water first thing in the morning since this rash occurred from a virus I had a few months ago I figured taking an immune system booster could only help my cause. I'm not sure if any individual thing I am doing has helped me or a little bit of everything combined but I am deffinetly seeing great progress much quicker than a lot of the comments I am seeing on the internet. GO TANNING !!!!!!!!!

I was diagnosed with Pityriasis Rosea April 2013 by my primary doctor as well as a Dermatologist. The itching was so unbearable and becaus if the unstopoable scratching my body experiened pain. I underwent steriods treatments with the dermatologist. It lasted more than 10 weeks. The radh eventually cleared up and left realky dark scars all over my body. Im a Black women so the spots are very dark spots. I have been using cocoa butter to try to clear the spots up. Its one one month away from a year since this all started and although the spotd ate starting to lighten up they are still very visible to the point that I can wear a short dress or halter in fear of people starring me down. Its coming up to another summer and I live in the south and I dont want to wear long maxi dresses again this summer. Does anyone know what I can use to get rid of or covef up these spots.
