I was 19 when I first was afflicted by PR , I am now 49. The first outbreak was the worst all over, extremely itchy for about 3 months. Now I have a few patches, about 4 to 8 every year usually when the weather changes, mostly from hot to cooler or dry to damp. And thankfully they don't itchy as much. I eat clean, don't drink, and even though I don't tan( I use a lot of sunscreen) I get as much uv time as possible. Sorry it never goes away. I have however helped others who were freaking out pre diagnosis by letting them know what it was, and that they didn't have ringworm, and what to ask the doctor. I actually have a few patches right now, when you're older the worst is the scarring, they all show back up.

Honestly, all you have to do is assume that everyone is just like you. I tried the tanning bed as soon as I was diagnosed. I went 4 times with zero change.

My son was diagnosed with PR when he was around 9 years old and would break our a few times a year. His pediatrician informed us it that you stress and that it usually happens if you happen to have had the chickenpox, which he had when he was younger. He never has the chickenpox vaccine due to having chickenpox at 6 months old. When he turned 16 we were told he had to get the chickenpox booster for school, a CDC advisor informed me that with his history that the booster would help with his breakouts. We got him the varicella booster at 16, he is now 20 and as not had another PR breakout since.

Hi! I wanted to share my experience with this and let you know that there is hope. I initially thought I had ringworm and stocked up on 4 weeks worth of antifungal cream. Then I went on an internet board about ringworm help and one of the posters wrote, "Are you sure it is ringworm?" and proceeded to describe the symptoms of pityriasis rosea. I realized that was exactly what I had. The ringworm cream I used for 3 days was making things worse and I was constantly itchy. I stopped using any products and just tried to not overheat and occasionally - like once a week - took an allergy medication - ragweed allergies were acting up anyway. The itchiness went away right after I stopped using the wrong cream on my skin. I bought some aveeno colloidal oatmeal bath and used it three nights in a row. I used the oatmeal packet once each week, so in all, I used the oatmeal packets 5 times. It's almost 4 weeks now and some of the rash spots are still there, but definitely fading away. So essentially it was only really giving me itchy symptoms for 1 week. I know it can go very long, as I read on this board, but it is possible for it to go away. For me, leaving it alone was the best thing. I just wanted to give some people hope who are coming on this board thinking it must last for months on end.
