I am Laura and I had a total hysterctomy almost 3 weeks ago, and my question is, how long after a hysterectomy do the hot flashes kick in. I have been breaking out in sweats every day about 5 to seven days after the hysterectomy. Is this normal? Could anyone help me and tell me if you know? I would really appreciate your help, thank you, Laura :-|

i had hysterectomy just sept 8th 2010. feeling good, kept the ovaries. I was under the impression that if you kept your ovaries you would have less side effects with hormones. I am six days post op and am feeling a little warm, but today is in the 80's. Otherwise i feel pretty good. Been a bit moody but this may be all the drugs leaving my body from the surgery. Did you keep your ovaries? Just asking because you may be getting hot flashes wether you did or not. I had robotic done, so i had no paid meds needed the day after. That was great.
I walk and have resumed a lot of normal stuff. My hair won't curl but i was told that was from the meds they use to put you to sleep and will go away.. I am hungry but can't eat a lot at one setting. I don't care to gain weight so this is fine with me. I love this site, don't feel so alone....

I am on day 8 post my total laperoscopic hysterectomy ( keyhole surgery kept the ovaries. been decided not to take any pain killers when I went home 12 hours after the surgery as the constipation was severe and I know that I am less likely to overdo things if I feel pain than if it is masked with strong pain killers. Still took me 5 days to have first bowel movement. The wind has been really testing. Each time I eat my bowel emits so much wind for at least 2 hours after - painful griping wind. But hey - my decision fibroids pressing on my bladder too much) so I have just got to endure the wind!

hey! i am 27 and have 3 wonderful little blessings myself. I had my uterus and cervix removed about 2 weeks and 2 days ago. I had laproscopic hysterectomy. I had endometriosis and adenomyosis and severe adhesions and scar tissue. 1 vaginal birth, 2 csections, and miscarried 2 times (6 1/2 mths along and a set of twins.) i have had pain for 4 years...had uterine ablasion which ended my periods, however, it didnt stop the pain, or solve my problem. I am 2 weeks and 2 days into recovery. My uterus was the size of a cantalope and 4.5 lbs. I reccomend this to anyone experiencing severe pain. i also have crohns disease, so some of the drs i complained too wrote it off as GI pain...but i knew better. The only problems i have had is discomfort with gas and constipation afterward, but i am getting over that now. and i am having pain when i pee and some pain in the vaginal walls....but no where close to the excruciating pain that was constant before....i think you should definitely consider it. My prayers are with you! i have been there.....its rough.

On 2/11/13 I had a vaginal hysterectomy with ovaries removed as well as some vaginal repair due to episiotomies from past child births making bowel movements difficult.  Surgery a breeze. Spent the night in hospital and went home early the next day. Took pain meds for 3 days plus stool softeners and a laxatives for almost 2 weeks. Had terrible gas pains so stopped the stool softeners and laxatives and pains went away. Unfortunately that left me constipated but that much better than the gas pains and loose stool. Some abdominal tenderness for about a week.

I was placed on a hormone replacement patch the day after surgery and haven't seemed to have any menopause symptoms other than feeling very dry the last few days.  I do feel a bit detached from things but no highs and lows that I'm normally used to feeling. I plan on having my hormone levels checked and hormones adjusted if needed.

I'm 45 years old had have 2 adult children and a 9 year old. I have no regrets about my decision and look forward to a better and healthier future.

I had that awful wind and couldnt pass it, thought i would explode, i also had pain passing water and could hardly pas water just drips, i was given antibiotics because i thought it might be a water infection but it didnt stop, i was spending all my time in the toilet with my bladder and bowel rocking back and too in awful pain, i eventually had quite a few bowel movements and the pain started to ease but now i cant stop going and its very loose, im in my 9th day after op, i feel very tired but i think im getting there, ive been making meals and have walked to asda which was a bit to far and i felt awfull but things are improving i think.
