Hey all,
I've been doing push ups for a quite some time
nowadays, i go for 40, rest, 30, rest, etc.

i've been noticing increase in muscle mass in the arms, but none in the pectorial muscles
also, during the workout, no pain is felt in the chest area (even after the workout)

what kind of push ups should i be doing?
(i do regular push ups with my feet placed on a couch which is about a foot off the ground)

sorry if this is a repost, but i couldn't find a post that answered my question

thanks

You could read up on explosive press ups in order to boost your bench which means that you will be handing more weight, thus encouraging muscle growth if you are eating well. The idea here would be to push yourself off the floor, and perhaps working the muscles on the rebound.

Aside from that I would advise to work muscles to failure, regardless of how many you are doing.

Your arms and chest take roughly 60% of your body weight when doing push ups. Mileage may vary.
